    M3 Entry?

Ah well. Nothing a hacksaw can't fix, I guess.
  3. I don't think it was every much of a question about federal law regarding the colapsible stock. Most of the rigamarole was about the mag extension.

    M3 Entry?

Bummer. Will a M1 barrel fit on the M3? [ 04-02-2006, 01:10 PM: Message edited by: jakjakman ]
  5. *Update* This morning I packed my M1014 in my trunk and headed into town to go shootin. Imagine my dismay when it started snowing! So after some homework and a late lunch the clouds split and the sun came out! I was able to go to the range after all. After experiencing a series of load and eject failures last week I thoroughly cleaned and lubed my gun and removed the sidesaddle. I took off the sidesaddle because if it's put on too tight it can squeeze the receiver and hamper the bolt movement (I didn't install it btw). Anyway, after my mandatory 100 rounds with the 'ol P226 I headed over to the 50 yard range and put up a target on the 25 yard line. I filled the mag with the same Brenneke slugs I shot last week and proceeded to sight in my M1014 on the bench. The ghost sights are really easy to adjust--I used a dime and it worked just fine. Now it shoots about 1.5 inches high and dead center at 25 yards, so it should be just about right farther down range. I had no load/eject problems with the slugs. After the slugs I stood and delivered with the same 00 buckshot I shot last week as well. I just love shooting that stuff! It's like a canon, I love it! Anyway, again I had no load/eject problems with the buck. After the buck I shot a bunch of the same target loads from last week too. They all worked fine except for the second to last one--it ejected the shell but the bolt didn't travel back far enough to load the last shell. Then when I shot the last shell it ejected but failed to lock back the bolt. So overall, much better than last week. I'm sure I just need to keep shooting for it to loosen up and break in. Oh, and yes--shooting a M1014 leaves a giant shiz-eating-grin on your face for the rest of the day!

    M3 Entry?

Did Benelli ever make a M3 entry shotgun simmilar to the M1 entry with a 14" barrel?
  8. Mama's skirt?! I know you and I weren't doing that M1014! Heck, I had my first 1911 back then. Might have been me though--I was only 6!
  9. Yo Mesa, very nice! When will the 6-round holders be available? Also, how snug do the shot-shells fit in the holder? It's more tactically correct to put the shells in upside down to ease in the loading process--they won't fall out after running around for half an hour, will they?
  10. Right now I have the skeletized pistol grip stock on my M1014. I've been thinking about getting the synthetic pistol grip stock instead--it seems a bit more solid and I think it looks better. Plus, seeing as how my stock doesn't collapse, I don't really see the point of having the ugly skeletized version. Anyway, the length-of-pull for the skeletized pistol grip stock is just right for me, so I'm wondering if the non-skeletized pistol grip stock has the length-of-pull. If someone could measure the distance from the but plate to the receiver I would be very greatful!
  11. I've heard about and seen a couple Benellis (M3 and M4s) that have H&K markings on their receivers. Could someone give me some info on these? Are they better/same/worse quality than the un-H&K marked shottys? Thanks!
  12. Thanks Red Cobra! Btw, you have a M1, right? Does the recoil-operated action reduce the recoil that you end up feeling?
  13. Hi guys, thanks again for all the good advice. This afternoon I stripped my M1014 down and removed the sidesaddle. I lubricated the trigger group, and wow--just a little bit of oil went a long way to smoothe up the operation of the hammer and elevator. I put some grease on the bolt rails too. After I put everything back together I worked the action--wowsers! So much smoother! Can't wait to shoot her again!
  14. Wonder of wonders and joy of joys, it stopped snowing here in Happy Valley and actually warmed up a bit allowing me to try my new M1014 for the first time! One of my main goals for this first outing was to pattern my boomstick buckshot. I also wanted to shoot some slugs to get the feel for them and also find out about the poa and poi. And for good measure, I brought along some #8 target shot to help me feel the gun out. So here's the ammo I used: -Federal Power-Shok 00 Buckshot, 9 pellet, 1325 fps -Brenneke K.O. 1 oz slugs, 1600 fps -Federal Target #8 shot, 3DRAM, 1 1/8 oz, 1200 fps Setup: I did my shooting on the 50 yard range with the buckshot patterning done at 25 yards, a group of 5 slugs at 25 yards, and a group of 5 slugs at 50 yards. Below you can see the silhouette target on the 25 yard line to get a feel for the distance. For the first target I was able to use a bg silhouette (the range didn't have any, but one of the guys had one in his personal stash that he traded me for a coke). I shouldered my shotty, pulled the trigger, and WHAMMO! The bg's down for the count. The M1014 shoots with a permanent modified choke (or so they tell me on the Benelli forum), and was able to place 7 out of 9 pellets in the com, with 4 of those in the 9 ring. In the picture below I colored in the holes with red so you can see the pattern better. For some reason one of the pellets missed altogether. For the next two targets I didn’t have another bg silhouette, so I used the ol' bull's eye targets instead. Here it is from the bench to give you a perspective. For some reason the patterns in these two targets seemed to hold a little bit better than with the first one. On both shots 3 of the pellets were within the black area and all pellets were accounted for. Here're the 2nd and 3rd patterns: For the slug test I did my first round at 25 yards. The M1014 has a nice set of ghost sites which help put the slugs where they should be. The trigger on the M1014 is a bit heavy, probably somewhere 8 or 9 lbs (I'm really just comparing it to my P226, so I could be way off with the number, but is is heavier). The trigger also has a bit of creep before to it before it drops the hammer. Anyway, from 25 yards I threw up this group: And as you can see I'm not the world's best slug chucker. But I sure had fun doing it! Then I moved the target stand down to 50 yards and tried it again: So I'm thinking my shotty shoots a little high and to the right a bit. No prob, because the ghost sights are very easy to adjust. And I'll probably throw an optical site on it sometime anyway. Overall I had a ton of fun. The gas operating system helps out with the recoil so my shoulder felt fine during the shoot and still feels fine. I wish I could say that the M1014 operated flawlessly with all types of ammo, but sadly that was not the case. I had the darndest time getting that thing to eat the target shot--it just didn't want to cycle it! For some reason the gas system wasn't pushing the bolt back hard enough so it would eject the shell, but it wouldn't feed the next one. In fact some of the time it wouldn't even eject the shell! Also on occasion the mag-tube failed to push the shell all the way out of the mag tube into the lower receiver causing a failure to load. *sigh* I'm sure these are just growing pains and everything will work out. I posted a more detailed description of the failures on this forum here. [ 04-01-2006, 10:34 PM: Message edited by: jakjakman ]
  15. Thanks pdw4137, I'll look into Sentry Solutions stuff. I did a quick Froogle search on them--did you get the full Armorer's Kit? I looks like the kit had most of the stuff you mentioned. Also, I bought my M1014 unfired from a guy who'd already installed the side saddle, so today I'm going to strip it off and make sure that's not the problem. As for the case, it's just some cheap plastic one with foam inside. Maybe someday when I find it's twin I'll get a double case like you M1014 Btw, I posted a full range report of my outing on this forum in another thread here. 16. Sabot slugs are only for a rifled barrel, which your M4 is not. Rifled slugs, on the other hand, are ment for smoothe bore barrels like your M4. You'd have to check the individual rifled slugs you shoot to make sure they're okay for use with a Modified choke. I'd recomend slugs from Brenneke, they're designed to be used with a choked barrel. I use the Brenneke K.O. slugs. They're 1 oz @ 1600 fps, and you can find them online for about $2.25 a box of 5. I shot some of them yesterday in my M1014 and they work great!
  17. Hi all, I went to the range and shot my new M1014 for the first time today. I shot a combination of 00 Buck, Brenneke K.O. slugs, and Federal target shot (3 Dram, 1 1/8 oz, #8 shot). For the most part, everything went okay with the heavy stuff--the buck and slugs. However, I had the darndest time trying to get the target shot shells to cycle correctly. For the most part, it seemed that the ARGO system wasn't giving the bolt enough kick, so it'd swing back far enough to eject the shell, but not far enough to load a new one. So the next time I'd pull the trigger, *click*. When I'd pull the bolt back, a shell would be waiting right there on the carrier, which is why I think the bolt's not coming back far enough. In some cases the bolt wouldn't even go back far enough to eject the spent shell. Another failure to load came about when the magazine tube spring didn't have enough force to fully push the shell out of the magazine tube. The bolt would be stuck in the open position with the shell sticking halfway out of the mag tube. I think this even happened once while I was shooting slugs. Yet another failure happened when the bolt successfully ejected a shell casing, but it would get stuck in the open position with the carrier in the elevated position. All I'd have to do is give the bolt a little push and the bolt would close and chamber the new shell. So all in all I think there are two problems: The mag tube spring isn't stiff enough (I do have a mag extension tube installed--could this be part of it?), and the ARGO system isn't adjusting to the lighter rounds to kick the bolt open hard enough. It's kinda funny--it seems I'm having the exact opposite problem that the 4-port low-recoil M4's are having--My ARGO is pushing to soft, while theirs is pushing too hard. So. Does anyone have any advice or help for me so my M1014 can work as a skeet shooter as well as a zombie slayer? I'm pretty sure the M1014 is supposed to work with the 3DRAM 1 1/8 oz shells--that's the lowest rating for Benelli’s recoil-operated autos. Anyway, I'll see if I can take some pictures with snap-caps to show you all what some of the feed-failures looked like.
  18. What kind of choke is the M1014 fixed at?
  19. Nope, the M4 is not supposed to be a straight slug gun--it's a kick-A, zombie blasten combat shotgun! Because of that, it has the chokes for people who like tight buckshot patterns. Like pdw4137 said, most slugs will be just fine out of your M4, even if you have a choke other than a straight cylinder. For slugs, I'd recomed brenneke. They even have a nifty faq for which slugs go with which barrel. I just picked up 10 packs of the K.O. slugs for $2.25 a pack (5 per pack). That's pretty cheap for me.
  20. Uh, I don't think anyone has a ported barrel.
  21. Does your M4 have 4 gas ports or 2? If it has 4, you'll probably keep having issues with your gun. There's another thread close by detailing a guy who returned his barrel for a 2 port model instead of 4. You may want to look into that.
  22. Yea Tex, I understand what you're saying. The thing is, if the Benelli M4 is so prone to failure, how in the heavens did it ever finish the military's trials with a good enough score to become the next combat shotgun? All the reviews I've seen regarding the military-tested M4s say they're about as reliable as you can get, like you could use it as a club if you had to. Anyway, so far it seems most of the trouble has been with the M4s that have 4 gas ports instead of 2.... If I remember right the limited edition M1014 is pretty much the exact same model as the military issued M1014 except for the collapsible stock and mag tube. So I think I'll be okay.
