The only real drawback of the system is that it's kind of a pain in the ass to UNLOAD the shells ... unless you are discharging them
-
I know ... but keep in mind new M4s were like 1299 back then IIRC.

You should have been around for my posts about hunting and deer, I got lots of people riled up and hating on me.

You're not dense, you're just used to pump shotguns clearly. The idea is that you load a round into the chamber FIRST while the BCG is back and the gun is empty. You then release the BCG, which lets you load additional rounds into the tube. This way, you always have a round in the chamber so you can use it if you need it. It's superior to a pump in that with pumps you have to load rounds into the tube, then pump, in order to accomplish the same thing. The m4 is faster getting a round in the chamber when you have an empty gun. If the bolt is closed, it always allows loading of more shells. The setup is also designed so that you can change the shell that's in the chamber without affecting the shells in the mag tube. It works better than the pump way. The small lever is there to reset the system on command. It allows the BCG to be locked back regardless of how whether the chamber is loaded, not loaded, rounds in the tube, no rounds in the tube, etc. On the next BCG cycle, the bolt will remain locked back, allowing you to manually load or change rounds if you desire. Overall, it gives you much more options and flexibility, not to mention speed, over the standard pump system. It just takes some getting used to, as it is rather different. Once you get good with it, you'll realize how awesome it is.

http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=22928&s= I recommend the Design Concepts titanium, non-rotational, diamondblack coated charging handle. It's by far the best m4 bolt handle.

There is no "equipment exchange" section of this forum. As such, this entire forum is a General Discussion forum. Most GD's delete or move sale ads that are posted without permission. I don't know of any GD that limits what threads you can respond to and which you can't. As such, if you don't like the heat, get the **** out of the kitchen, and take your $1000 overpriced shotgun with you. This isn't a moderated sale board, where everyone has to play nice, this is a "say whatever you want" GD board, and I'm saying what I want. So long as you come to the Benelli General Forum, where people who shoot and discuss Benelli's visit, you're at the mercy of the forum posters if you choose to gouge, and then weakly justify that gouging by saying "BUT LOOK SOMEONE GOUGED WORSE THAN ME". But I mean, since someone else foolishly paid $3500 for an m1014, and you're only charging $3000 ... I mean it's basically like you're paying me $500 to take the shotgun off your hands! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW! Grow a thicker skin or get out, nobody was even that mean to you or the OP, we simply said it was not a good price ... because it isn't. It's a terrible, awful price. The m1014 is inferior to the 11707 "current" model in that if has no interchangeable chokes, 4 gas ports (caused problems), the old barrel profile, a non-milled recoil tube, and the "american flag" emblem. The fact that you think you're justified asking $3200+ for an old, outdated m1014 is hilarious. Good luck selling it, I hope you find a real sucker, but it probably won't be on this forum.
-
I don't know what that guys deal was, or if he was serious, or if he actually paid that amount ... but if you think that is a realistic, sustained average price for a NIB plain jane M1014, which is inferior to the m11707 "new" models in many ways ... you're out of your mind. If you can sell it for that much, by all means do it, suckers are born every day, but it will take a sucker to pay over $2200 for that gun ... and even that is high. If it didn't have the skeletonized stock it would be worth MSRP MAYBE to someone who didn't know the difference between the m1014 and m11707 ... the super inflated collapsible stock prices are the only reason I'm even reaching up to $2200. Asking $3200+ and expecting not to get laughed at on a forum where many people actually know about benelli's and what they are worth is, well, funny. You'd be better off listing it on gunbroker, talking about how it's SUPER RARE and the flag logo adds 15 horsepower and how it's going to be banned any day now and this is their last chance to get this one of a kind item.

This is a common controversial issue. Some people ignore all test data, logic and common sense and swear that longer barrels simply MUST produce tighter patterns ... the same type of people I suppose that think longer rifle barrels MUST make a rifle more accurate. Others realize that modern shotgun powder burns very quickly, and that 18 inches is more than enough for a full burn and velocity to be reached. It's the same diameter barrel on the inside regardless of length, and maximum velocity has been reached regardless of barrel length. Longer barrels just add more length to the barrel while not giving any more velocity, stabilization, anything ... some even argue that longer shotgun barrels DECREASE velocity of slugs due to increased friction against the barrel after maximum powder burn has been reached. The main factor is the choke, and finding the right one. There is a perfect ammo, barrel and choke for every shotgun, it's just a matter of finding what works and what doesn't. There really is no substitution for buying and trying ... the best choke for someone else may be a terrible choke for you, and from some accounts I've read sometimes full chokes pattern looser than modified chokes. It's all about matching the 3 items for the outcome that you want. But no, you are certainly not limited to 30 yards with an m4 ... any more than you are with any shotgun. PS - In rifles, longer barrels offer more "real estate" to properly stabilize a bullet, increased velocity due to a longer burn time (slower powder) and time before gas release, and often times longer barrels are made from stainless steel as opposed to being chrome lined, which can make a huge difference. However, none of these things necessarily mean that longer barrels will be more "accurate" ... if you have a quality stainless 12 inch AR15 barrel and a quality 20 inch stainless AR15 barrel, if the short barrel has the twist ratio and length to stabilize a round it likes, it's very possible that they could shoot identical groups, the short barrel will just have less velocity and thus more drop compared to the longer barrel. That's the main reason why most long range guns use longer barrels ... it ensures that stabilization can occur with a wide range of bullets, and the increased velocity means that less drop occurs, and thus a greater chance of hitting your target due to less adjustment needed. In a shotgun however, this doesn't apply. The only advantage to long barrel shotguns, as previously stated, is that they are more "user friendly" to hit things with ... long barrels inspire "shot making confidence" it seems, they swing and balance well, and the longer distance between the sights means that it's easier to line up and hit things. These are all user related things though ... the actual gun is just as capable, it's just harder for the user it seems. Once you get used to using an 18 inch barrel, you realize that you are just as capable with one as you are with a 28 inch. Slug barrels perhaps change things, but the m4 has no slug barrel, so I digress.

That's a good price.

The gun can and will do whatever it needs to do ... it's capable of whatever. The question, and limiting factor, is what you are capable of when using the gun. If you get good with the gun it will do whatever you want it to ... I often just point shoot with my m4, as you would a pocket pistol. Once you get the feel of it, you can things pretty consistently without even using the sights. The point is, it's all about how comfortable you are with the gun ... the gun itself is not the limiting factor. An 18.5 inch barrel is long enough to get full powder burn, so there is not real advantage to longer barrels besides weight, swing and confidence. With the right choke it will pattern as tight or as loose as any other shotgun. It can be filled to 9 rounds, and it never jams. The drawbacks ... it's heavy and lots of people suck at using rifle sights, so they miss and blame it on the gun, when really the fault lies with their usage of the gun. If you want to destroy anything and everything with your m4, get an optic on top (like an aimpoint T1 in low profile mount) and you'd have to be blind to miss.
-
If you can use rifle sights, the gun will do what you want it to.
-
It took me 30 minutes ... My friend called me, asked if I wanted to buy the m4 he had bought 3 days before ... I said yes, how much ... he said $1200 or $1150 or something ... I said ok, I'll be over in 10. A quick trip to the bank and a half gallon of gas later, I had an M4.
-
ahahha You're wasting your breath, I said that same thing 4 pages back and it didn't sink in at all.

If they could make an aluminum or perhaps titanium barrel strong enough, this could be very possible. Some type of factory teflon additive put into the finish, and a design porous enough to hold a long term oil such as Machine Gunners Lube ... and you probably could get away with never cleaning or oiling it, and it would never rust. Now if only Cleeford would get around to making these magic vaporware parts!

I truly feel sorry for you if you sell your M4 over fear of the ATF ... while hunting in ALASKA. Show me a case where the ATF went out of their way and prosecuted someone for a 922r violation ... show a single case where 922r was anything other than an addon charge that was used when the book was being thrown at someone who was already doomed for much more serious violations. Don't sell your M4.

I apologize for being unable to provide definitive and complete answers 100% of the time. I'll try to step it up, since you know it is our unpaid civilian duty to cater to your every wish and whim on this public forum. I see what you did there ,,,,,

I hear it has a really, really small safety that is ultra hard to manipulate ... and it makes such a racket when it finally does move that every animal within 20 miles flees the other direction.

+1, $70 is dirt cheap for a full length tube of decent quality. I wish you were around 2 or so years ago, when the only full length tubes available were custom made tubes (like mine) or factory full length tubes that went for $300-$400 on ebay/gunbroker. $70 for a tube is a joke, and you're nuts if you think it's "RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED" ... heck Carriercomp or SOCOMguy tubes are 2-3x as expensive and tons of people buy them because of the quality and workmanship. Do you think they have a 5000% profit margin on every "$5 tube" because it's technically just a hunk of cheap metal? While I'm sure they wish it was so, it simply isn't the case. The point isn't that you had something negative to say, or that you wanted to warn others ... it's that you made a thread called "Dave's Metal Works= GARBAGE" based off of one experience that you made ZERO attempt to remedy. You may not consider that a personal attack on Dave, but it is most certainly a personal attack on his entire company over one isolated issue that he would have gladly offered to fix if you had given him half a chance. That's why people are giving you a hard time over this. Besides that, feedback is always appreciated.
-
Seriously, you could have at least contacted the vendor or the manufacturer prior to making this thread ... As far as "only positive feedback being allowed", you've got to be kidding me, this is one of the most open and loosely moderated gun forums I've ever been on, it's actually quite amazing that benelli lets people say some of the things that they say on here. Your "negative feedback" isn't being rejected because it's negative, it's being rejected because you didn't treat DMW fairly or give him an opportunity to correct the problem. If you contacted him prior to making this thread and he refused to make it right, then maybe this thread would have some ground ... but seeing as how you made this thread without even contacting him, and then Dave STILL came here, apologized, and said he would make it right, it just makes you look like an idiot. Mark this down as a lesson learned on how to deal with manufacturers and people in general.
