    feeding my m4

Bloodhound, As HOgwild said, always have a choke installed. I was taught to use only cylinder choke for slugs, but you can find various opinions on that if you search this forum. Also, those other federal loads will work fine but I would save the low recoil stuff until after you've broken in your shotty with heavy or standard loads first. Again, a search of the forums have several posts regarding M4 breakin. I only shot 100 rounds before I felt mine was broken in, but your mileage may vary...Congrats!

    recoil

Nice take! What ammo did you use Liberty or Death Jr? On something only partly related, I took my 6 year old son to the range for his first full auto session with MP5, suppressed. Big smile on his face, and very controllable because of low recoil. I'm not a girly man but I don't look like governor Ahnold either HeHe.
  3. I second that reply...The factory extension is no problem, and I remember someone saying the Nodak was fine too. The one I know for sure that has to removed first is the surecycle (I have one).
  4. M4 doesn't have one built in. see this thread: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7925&highlight=mercury+recoil+reducer sorry, did't register in my brain you asked about M1: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7239 You can search the forums for further posts...the above are just examples of what I found.
  5. Sorry if this is a little off topic, but anyone have experience with this stuff on antiques? I have used CLP on my modern stuff because that's what we used on duty, but I have stuck with plain Hoppe's gun oil for 100+ year old guns since that's what my old timer friends have used for years, and the antiques seem to keep well with the stuff (at least in the dry Southwest) Just curious...thanks for any insight/opinions

  7. The buyer may be a complete novice and doesn't understand 'factory test firing'. I'd be more concerned that he doesn't have the funds to cover the sale or that he sent you a fraudulent money order etc. I recall gunbroker having a warning recently about fake money orders and cashiers checks. Otherwise, I would agree with the other comments: tell the buyer to pack sand!
  8. wintwu, I recall experiencing that when I first got the M4 and tried to cycle dummy rounds. Somewhere between 1 and 2 boxes of standard field loads cured it. I doubt you have anything to be concerned about. I've noticed people have had to shoot alot more than I did to 'break in' the M4, but mine was a store display and may have been manually cycled a bit.
  9. Thanks, Sorry for the redundant question as I just read the other thread with your very nice detailed explanation. I guess I should've looked first before shooting. I haven't read over the form 1 but I assume since it's a fed form the LLC idea would work in any state that allows NFA stuff. Thanks again!
  10. Hey SgtBernie I'm curious what the LLC is needed for? Does it offer some extra protection like an FLP etc? Also, even with the LLC, do you have to put your residence address on the application, even if you have a business address that the LLC goes through? I am intrigued.
  11. Ooooooh, Aaaaahh I don't suppose that BATF response came in writing?

    m4 mag troubles

Oh that's weird. I didn't expect you to find a lip. What I do notice on my SRM extesion is that one end is thinner than the other, the threads are the same pitch etc. Have you tried reversing the ext tube? BTW, calling SRM is really nice because those guys do care about their product. They were quite responsive when I called them last year. Thanks for keeping us (me) up to date.
  13. I am a black rifle guy, but I also like old 1894 Winchesters. Maybe I'm just schizo. But reading the quote from Zumbo, I think he has definitely learned from his mistake. It's one thing to tell me that my toys should be banned or otherwise restricted, just like the Brady Bunch would say, but it's another to then step back and admit that he was out of line. I have said things that I later regretted, and fortunately didn't get anyone killed. I applaud Zumbo for setting out to learn about the AR. I have no idea who Zumbo is and don't really care, but if he has been a respected voice for the 2nd Amendment, I sure as heck don't want to give the Brady Bunch a chance to capitalize on this situation. If we allow significant divisions within our ranks with no chance for forgiveness and apologies, then even this forum may be considered verboten in '08. We need all the support we can get, even if it means trying to 'convert' someone, as far fetched as it may seem. Miracles do happen. Heck, I'm still alive.....

    m4 mag troubles

I take it that it all works fine without the extension? With the extension in place, if you unscrew the end cap and remove the retaining clip, does the spring pop out or stay stuck in the tube? I just can't figure how it could hang up. Mag follower in the right way? Just grasping for ideas. Let us know what you find..I in particular am very curious.
  15. Last year when I bought mine the website did have 3 chokes listed as standard and I couldn't find that today. At least back then I called CS and it was at my door in 2 weeks. They admitted that they were having problems shipping those extra tubes because they get confused as to which were military and which were not (military ones without chokes). I don't know if that's altogether true but it sounded reasonable to my simple brain.
  16. I am not an illegal... I had a green card at one time, and it said Armed Forces of US or something like that. What were we talking about?
  17. And what's wrong with a grenade launcher? I don't think there's anything in 922 about it. The actual grenade part on the other hand...

    m4 mag troubles

Do you mean that it will not feed all 7 in a row without a hiccup? I too could not fit all 7 with the SRM spring, but the factory spring is designed with a full length mag tube in mind. Which mag follower are you using? Just because I can see it better I used SRM's red one instead the factory black plastic one and have no problems feeding at all. I'm not sure where the spring would hang up, as it should ride right over that intersection point internally, unless you have a kink in the spring or something. Since SRM's spring is beefier, and longer, if you really wanted to use it you need to trim it, but only a little at a time (maybe 0.25 inch?). Other people have not had an issue with the SRM spring so I thought I was the only one. Perhaps it's because my barrel actually has 18.3 stamped on it, and maybe that is just short enough not to allow that last 7th shell to fit in all the way. That's what it seemed like to me...just a hair more and that last shell would pass the lip and stay in the tube, but it didn't so I use the factory spring and am saving the SRM for later. Sorry for rambling....
  19. That's interesting Thunderbolt. I agree with your parts count but a BATFE letter to M4madness last year somehow came up with 11. Who says you have to graduate high school to get a gubbermint job.
  20. Wow, I've been out of the loop. Last I saw it was 2 US made parts. Where did the 5 come from??
  21. How about a rocket propelled slug from the M4? That ought to reach out there and touch someone. Yes, probably need cylinder choke for that one. Why .416 cal?? why not just go .50 cal?
  22. Congrats on your slippery slope into the DARK SIDE:eek: I got the collapsible stock for 1)I can fit it in my safe fully collapsed. Without the collapsible stock, the barrel and mag tube are too fat to fit through my rifle slots in the safe. 2) For CQcombat, this shotgun is most comfortable with it collapsed down 1 notch from full extension. On the range, fully extended is the way to go, but if you are trying to present a low profile to an intruder in your home, full extension is too uncomfortable for my body frame and the collapsible stock makes a huge difference in comfort for the CQcombat scenario. I cannot think of any situation where fully collapsed would be used to shoot unless from the hip, but that's not my intention. Hope this helps. BUT, it also looks cool:D
  23. SgtCathy, http://www.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=177 Have an oustanding day!
  24. "M4's can be harmful to your wallet." Amen, brother.
  25. Oh man, I can't tell you how many times I've thought about that full length tube. Then the hairs go up in the back of my head because someone is breathing down my neck:eek: I'm just happy to be alive and own an M4...Thanks for your reply!
