Also what length shells are you shooting?
-
These are the same targets I use in my sessions. The criteria I go by are the hits in the Skull, spine, and trachea as well as the balance of the pattern.Your targets show definite charactoristics of a strong performer.I don't want any open areas on the target at all,I want pellets from right to left and top to bottom.Make copies of this target and shoot 2 shots with each shell/choke at 35 and 45yds,count the Bone/vein hits on each and find your best load.If you still are hitting with consistency, back up in 5yd increments. The one you have the most confidence in,use. Good luck

What single thing do you find most frustrating or confusing about turkey hunting,or turkey hunting equipment?
-
This tube is mysterious.I have never seen it anywhere other than in the catalog and on the website. They want me to use it at my seminars about turkey equipment,so I recieved one this week.I shot 100 rounds today of Federal,Rem,Hevi13,Win and even Bismuth! At 20-40yds every load would have killed a turkey, from 45 to 55 some loads started to stand out.Hevi13 #6 and Fed f/c #5 and #6 and oldschool Rem Hevi made it into the next round of tests. The next session will include some more brands and materials. The only common thing is that they will all hover around #5 and #6. My favorite target is the H.S. Strut that is available at W-mart.I like this target because it has the veins and arteries as well as skull and vertabrae. I make hundreds of copies at the neighborhood Grocery store,so I can get consistant results.

Do your targets have a skull and spine on them?I haven't seen the pics so I'm just asking.

SBE II barrel length turkeys and waterfowl
CH/QuakerBoyProstaff replied to airport1's topic in Benelli
All I know is me personally,if I could I'd be rocking a 20" bbl with a 2"extended tube in it for turkeys alone.I daydream about this set-up with a Steadygrip! -
I just recieved a real sleeper tube. The Truglo Strut Stopper Xtreme. It is not the one at Walmart. It is a .643id! and has straight grooves in it.This thing is WILD.From what I've tested at an informal session, this thing is going to be murderous.I am going to put it through it's paces on Sun.

The test has been scheduled to coincide with the SHOT show.New product coming out will nullify some of the data that would be gathered. In a couple of weeks we will be jammin'!
-
Most stuff is in a shroud of secrecy. The dealers and associates are all meating out in NV and the launch will take place there.Everyone will be given their packets, and shown the goods, and then the orders will be placed, all while snacking on cocktail weiners! This is how Formula 1 racing teams launch their new car each year, and I guess Benelli being European, has the same mindset!Remington has been giving glimpses of '08 stuff for months.
-
Hey gang, look for the 2008 catalogs on your dealer's shelves one week after the SHOT show last week of Jan.1st week of Feb. just a heads up!
-
Why is it retired?I bet it is ready to go out and rock and roll!
-
Last day birds taste just as good as first day birds! Good Job!

The Bushnell, shotgun scope is tough to beat. It's cheap, rugged, and has low enough power and eye relief,to actually be useful on a shotgun.I own one in Realtree HD,and use it on my slug gun now.I personally don't like any optics on my turkey guns,as I don't like the added weight, and the loss of depth perception that comes with close quarters moving objects. It's fiber optic sights to the last man, for me. Also check out Truglo's line of products. There's something for everyone there.

only one shot? try 2 more and find your average. This one was a beauty though,

SBE II barrel length turkeys and waterfowl
CH/QuakerBoyProstaff replied to airport1's topic in Benelli
People overcomplicate this. two inches here or there is not going to handicap you so badly that you need to have seperate barrels for turkeys or geese. It is always a hot topic though, as everyone has their own opinion/research to back it up.It's like the 12ga vs 20ga debate. The first battle you are going to have to fight,is finding some barrels at all,as they are hard to come by sometimes.Once you have done this, then it is time to choose,if you are able. Some of the choketubes you will screw into the end will add an inch or more to the length. If you had a 24 in bbl,and added a Kick's turkey or waterfowl choke you would then have a 26 in bbl.Same choke with a 26bbl turns into 28in,etc. No matter which you choose, feathers will fly,as long as you do your part with load selection,woodsmanship/calling,and shooting ability. Rock on Ithaca btw! -
What type of scope you are putting on makes a big difference. Is it a shotgun scope with the appropriate reticle,or a crossover from a rifle? How much eye relief will you have once it's mounted, and how that stacks up when you are in a sitting position.Look at these factors and then the actual POI decision comes into play.Try to work around how the scope and you interact in field positions,as things are always best at the bench, but go wrong when your back's against a tree. Good luck

I've gotten great results out of almost every combo I put through it,except for some reason,my gun does not like Carlson's tubes!? I ended up hunting with a Tightwad tube after all the tests, because it was the most consistant for me. If you have some buddies around, have them each buy a box or two of different loads, and you do the same, and have a patterning party. It only sets you back the cost of two boxes, but you get to test many different loads, depending on how many participate. If they also shoot Benellis(non Cryochoke) then you can also switch tubes as well. The possibilities are endless! Take care.

Yes,dig in some of the archives and you will find your answer, and more.

I have a Comfortech SupNova, and a Steadygrip M1,and constantly have to decide which one to use.On the Comfortech gun, 3in. loads feel like heavy target loads, and 3.5 in shells feel like 3.5in shells. The recoil pad that comes with the Comfortech SupNova is NOT the same as the one on the M2 and SbeII,it is harder.I recently added one of the True Comfortech pads, and am really happy with it. The SteadyGrip is a pure dream to hunt with,as it helps me "get up in" the gun in crunch time, when I'm smashed up in some junky set-up and a gobbler is trying to see what time it is.Turkeys operate on a different clock than you and me,and you just might find that having your wrist in a natural position makes the minutes turn into seconds.Go to your local dealer and sit on the floor with each and see which one is more comfortable. If they really want your hard earned cash, this won't be a problem.
-
On the up side the tubes will be cheaper on the Nova,as they are not Cryo treated.I will put around 500 various rounds down field in the next two months at the patterning board, with every target being filed away for reference. At the end of these sessions,I always am convinced that there is a combo that can do better than the one I just got done using. My advice is find the one load that is easiest for you to find on shelves near you,and also throws the best patterns with the tube(s) you've aquired. Good luck, and happy shooting!
-
Amen to that. Spend enough time jump-shooting ducks without a dog,and you will gladly pay any amount just to have a short retrieve on a dead duck. You might have to sacrifice buying that remote control mallard decoy for a while, though.lol
-
If recoil bothers you, check out Hevi 13 #6 shot 3in mags. They kick almost like target loads and mess turkeys up.As far as chokes go,check out Truglo's line of tubes.Dead turkeys,no hype. http://www.truglo.com
-
That happens all the time, the tube isn't defective. You'll notice that it will do it with some chokes, and not others.I have turkey chokes that back out as well as mod and such. The way I seat my turkey tubes is to clean the threads with degreaser, put choke tube lube on the threads up to the very last one nearest the muzzle, and put a (very) tiny dot of blue threadlocker on the last thread. It removes easily, but not too easily. take care.
-
I think, but am not 100% sure, that in the fine print on the box of HD,there is something covering this.It is on my old boxes of Premier Hevi-shot,so check it out, just for kicks.

How far "loose" would it spin out?And what shells were you shooting?
