  1. Good news / Bad News. I got the IWC unit in the mail today. I don't think it's going to work unless you're going to turn the entire thing in a lathe, not just the rim. The rim measures .739" diameter. The cup measures .627" diameter. Fat little piggy. I think my best option is the ace cup, it has the most ideal dimensions that I know of for a countersunk mount to the PG. It will lack anti-rotation though.
  2. It's not bad, I did this to my aug in the aug's mag well. I also have one up front on my mod'd blam4 on my sbs m4. If I was committed to doing so, I would explore if it could be done closer to the receiver. For a two point the stock works great. I desire a fixed point on the receiver or top of PG so it holds the system where I want it for a single point as well.
  3. I think the pins are a necessary evil due to the material properties of the mag-alloy. But yes, non-standard is a huge disadvantage of the rig. Not a SHTF fan rig by any stretch.
  4. That picture perfectly demonstrates what I don't like about rail attaching everything. So much wasted space, added bulk, snag hazards and just aesthetically objectionable. The thorntail may help slightly. Of course the options aren't always better.
  5. Dang I hope that didn't gouge your barrel or worse your bolt. After you locate your washers and re-install, make sure to do so without the barrel or bolt in then feel inside the receiver to make sure nothing is protruding.
  6. To take off the barrel you simply remove the retaining nut on the front of the mag tube and pull the barrel assembly straight off. I pull and lock the bolt back first. I don't know anything about the sidearmor rig and if it interferes or not. If so, take it off and leave it off until you figure out what's going on with your M4. BTW - I have had 3 M4s now, each one fed Walmart Bulk Pack with no issues. I have heard others have had issues.
  7. IWC must need to manufacturer some of hose QD Cups because I just received my order from them from 3/7 which did not include one of those cups - the order for the cup went in on 3/3.
  8. I'm with you on the rail, I doubt it will be what I want regardless of weight. Probably end up with the NSR. I am interested to see how much weight the upper saves and what it looks like.
  9. The Trigger Assembly must be removed. After that, I've never had an issue. Removed many of them.
  10. I picked up a Mag Tactical Mag Alloy Lower, but I haven't done anything with it yet. There is a note on their webpage that says "MAG Tactical Systems is in the process of tooling up a Light Weight Upper and Forearm to go along with the GEN 4 Lowers. This will complete the Light Weight Set." So I am kind of waiting to see what that looks like. At least the upper. We'll see. Have to decide how to build it out as well to keep weight down. Might do a pencil barreled SBR in 300blk. Can't imagine how it could get much lighter and still retain the full ability of the round. MAG Tactical Systems is in the process of tooling up a Light Weight Upper and Forearm to go along with the GEN 4 Lowers. This will complete the Light Weight Set.
  11. I wonder why one isn't made? I wonder if there is a materials issue in doing so? Are there other aluminium barrel nuts for other systems? Any downsides?
  12. Agree, NSR is the sh*t. I have one, I want a few more - but now is not the time to buy. So wait I will.
  13. Nice looking colors. Love the NSR handguards.
  14. Hoping it is the IWC Rotation limited QD cup. If so, will know more about the viability of it's use as a grip mounted QD on the M4. Should be here soon enough.
  15. speaking of which, I got a shipment notice from IWC. Not sure which parts they shipped yet though. Slow as sh&t.
  16. Eh, I removed the receiver extension on my full length American Flag M4 to replace it with a 3 position. People are easily intimidated.
  17. I gave that a roll awhile back. It came in the view of the sights, but just barely. I am not sure I liked the balance 100% either. Love the idea of a aluminium receiver extension with mounting options SD. Given FFT and CC out there, I am surprised there aren't more custom parts out there for the M4. Better mounting options and sling attachments are sorely needed.
  18. That's nutty. 1927, still ready for duty. I'm jelly. I need a lathe and a mill.
  19. The value of the Np3 coating to Bellini was in the attempt to sidestep 922r, by having Beretta do this stateside, they 'manufactured' the parts in the USA by coating them. In doing so they hoped to offer the platform with collapsing stocks and full cap mag tubes - it was never about the NP3. It goes to the very heart of the question - what constitutes 'Manufacturing' - and more importantly is there a relevant federal legal definition that applies as 922r is concerned? Obviously the ATF disagrees with Benelli.
  20. M4DC used a Hi-Point at a 3gun comp and voted for obama.
  21. Not even 922r compliant by the letter of the law. The reason Benneli had to stop selling them. Probably worthless really. You should get rid of it to avoid getting the ATF upset. I deal in scrap metals. I will give you $200 for it's base metal value. And pay another $75 to have it shipped to me. PM me.
  22. Ah... makes sense. I was wondering why one was so worried about accidental discharges of the light. Now I see, can't give away your position. BTW, yes the new surefires adopted LEDs that they have been testing now for years, bringing them up to 500 lumens. Before that the X300 was ~200 lumens for years and years when the modded one was 1000. I totally get why surefire does what they do - and in your case and in deployed soliders cases, that's exactly the product I would go to. The rock.
  23. I get it. That's why if you are deployed, Surefires are the way to go for the most part which leads to spectacular popularity in all circles. However, not everyone has those same use case scenarios. When I build firearms, and choose accessories for them, they are usually purpose built for specific use case. The X300 by Overready is a great Home Defense weapon light or for Entry Work. Blinding power. Only have to burst, etc. What is the outer limit on length for an entry operation on a 800sq ft house used to sling crack rocks?
  24. It would be pretty slick. Would be interested to see the results. Could mill in a QD there as well to replace the BLAM. Very interested if rigged with a variable ring or clamp for other lights as well. Surefire makes great products but I rarely use them on my firearms even though I try to put a light on all my arms. I do alot of custom flashlights and there are always incredible LEDs that Surefire has not adopted into their lights yet. Takes them years the way their product lines evolve due to the markets they serve, etc. There are some modded surefires that are awesome btw, if you want to check out a production type shop look at overready .com . But I can almost always get a brighter more compact package without a large reflector/head with a single 123 cell by going to other manufacturers, etc. Check out this X300 - 1000 lumens...
  25. SD Are you thinking of making a mounting system for the M4? If so, consider a modular system as well, where one can use a direct light mount ring like the thorntail or mount a section of rail. I like rails when you have a rail accessory, but don't like the overhead when trying to mount something that doesn't have a rail interface built in - such as most lights. I am playing with 3D modeling programs, if I can model one I can have it 3D Printed even in Titanium, etc or CNCd. The ideas I have would put the light in very tight right between the mag tube and the barrel with a ring for the size light you have, etc.
