The gun rubbed on something or banged something, I know you’re probably disappointed but now your gun is on its way to looking like it actually gets used! I get this is an expensive gun, and I am a bit desensitized to it, since I shoot M4s like the tools they were made to be. Shoot it and enjoy it. Run her hard, enjoy all she has to offer. if it really bothers you you can try some Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black, it might work for you.

This thread got off topic a bit, but talking about how I usually carry my M4 (in the woods on my hikes and walks). No shell in the chamber, but I have a shell on the carrier, all I have to do is rack the bolt and I’m good to go. Just one way to go, but when I’m with my kids and dog, I don’t want something stupid to happen with a loaded shotgun in battery and would rather have a quick rack of the bolt to get my shotgun ready if I ever need it.

Was your barrel fully seated and tight? Might be a cause if it loosened itself. as the comment above I have shot thousands of slugs through the M4 stock choke, even though they say not to… (apparently)

I’ve had to redesign the heatshield unfortunately. Problems started to occur after 1K rounds and had to go back to the drawing board after a few months of trying to remedy it. Hoping to have a whole new prototype for testing in January Feb.

Benelli would do well to apppoint a regular member with reputation to have low level admin power, honestly. What a crap shoot. a velocity filter would be useful, stopping members/IP from doing more than 2 new posts an hour or something.

I think the worst that can happen is a round will fire, bolt goes back, recoil tube dislodges, your buttstock comes off with a bit of force. I don’t think there is any real danger other than that, the bolt can’t exit the rear of the receiver it will just impact the back of the receiver and will be contained. if this were to occur I think you’d have warning signs, such as a slightly loose recoil tube before it happens. I’m glad you got it sorted out! Sounds like it will work just fine as you felt the torque of the nut was sufficient.

Wow thanks for posting, I don’t take down the bolt at all if everything is working well, but I might start cleaning it more often once a year as you say.

Movement is normal, the sound looks to me like the buttstock pin is compressing a bit, then releasing when it seats back into the groove, causing that sound. I don’t believe it is out of spec, but maybe some others can chime in regarding the sound.

Just a thought on the M4 buttstock for those that feel it is sub par.. I’ve seen a lot of collapsible stocks, and I can’t recall any that come close to the quality of the M4 legacy buttstock. Not often do you see an aluminum frame collapsible buttstock, everything these days is made out of polymer. It is one of a kind imo, and this is why it is so expensive, I haven’t seen any clones but I doubt clones have aluminum buttstocks.

I’ve never done a BF sale, but maybe this year, I’m kinda a one man shop and fairly small. But it’s on my mind this year so ya never know!

The recoil tube/buttstock is very tight tolerances. I’m lucky to have a very tight buttstock for fitment purposes on my 6 pos checks. While a few other of my buttstocks fitment is looser. So imo it is more to do with the buttstock than the tube.

Yes I would consider using a tap to try and clean up the threads, make sure you use oil. as long as the recoil tube will thread in and be secure, you can load it with a ton of red loctite when you do the install, and it should be okay. But it does need to hold torque, so you’ll have to be the judge of that. the receiver is threaded M21x1, but feel free to confirm with Benelli first. Further, I would find a local gunsmith to do this imo. also I don’t see how Benelli can fix the threads, other than using a tap like you may do. They may just say you need a new receiver instead of attempting to service it at all. I am curious how this happened, Did you force a cross threaded tube in the whole way? Did you over torque and is the threads stripped?

I’ve already let the cat out of the bag with the mlok heatshield I’m releasing. unfortunately I’ve hit some snags that showed up after 1K rounds, needing to redesign it a little. At this rate I might have the beretta 1301 heatshield out before the M4.

Might I suggest changing the extractor, is cheap enough to see if it works? https://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/70037 changing the spring and pin also might be worth it.

I would service the extractor. It is not normal to have the bolt back like that and a shell half way extracted. do you have any friends with an M4? If so, pop their bolt into your gun and see if it functions properly, if so, then you know it’s something off with your bolt assembly and most likely the extractor.

I would follow what I do on my product pages, use the same customs code and customs description. Yes it was quite time consuming to look through all the handbooks and ATF laws, but it all made sense in the end. And it helped me know the laws and rules for shipping my items to USA without issues.

I don’t know, it is made in Italy. I’ve never tried to send something made in Italy to the USA.

If you are concerned, take some sandpaper and smooth out the burrs created by the ding (if there are any). i have multiple dings on my bolt carrier rails from cleaning and whatever else, these things are going to happen. If I feel a ding should be smoothed out I usually take some coarse sandpaper to it.

Our tube notches are heat treated to prevent deformation. Which does make a difference, Also a custom PVD surface finish. Aside from those technical benefits. It is $120 cheaper 😕 no issues at all shipping to USA, been doing it for years. Shipped thousands of packages down there by now.
