On another site, an internet wizard claims that the new polymer Benelli trigger guard will simply shatter at 0 F. I don't want to e-mail CS, I just want to spew this out here and see what happens. Tucker, since you are the smartest guy here, what say you man? Somehow I picture Tucker looking like one of the two guys on MythBusters Will the Benelli trigger guard simple "shatter like glass" @ 0 F??? I'd kinda like to know..... mudhen - CA

My Benelli slug guns have done well with Winchester Platinum Tips. Partition Golds work fine too. I've tried lots of brands, but the Winchesters just seem to work best for me. mudhen - CA

They are not the same tubes. M1 take Mobil chokes, M2's & SBE II's take Crio Plus. I'd say do what you want and then you only have yourself to blame..... mudhen - CA

Actually Butch, I have read a great deal about how even a short section of rifling can make a major difference in slug accuracy. I found my Rhino rifled tube made my SBE shoot better groups. Read up on the Buckhammer and spend some time at Brenekke's website for info on slugs for rifled tubes. mudhen - CA

1 - What Butch said - I think you will foul the rifling over time - a few shells are prolly fine though. 2 - IC is the usual choice. 3 - I'm guessing that Briley or Carlson will have a Crio Plus rifled tube before too long maybe now, maybe Rhino too? 4 - Benelli slug barrels are very accurate - I'd say there is no comparison between their 24" rifled slug barrel and a smoothbore even with rifled choke. But, no big deal out to 75-80 yards. If you are looking for 100-150 yd accuracy, the rifled barrel would be best. mudhen - CA

2 different SBE I's - shot with a 'C' spacers for 15 years. Don't recall what spacers those two guns originally came with. I think I changed both to 'C'. mudhen - CA

Ok. If I had to pick a semi in the $600-$800 price range, it would have to be a Browning Gold 3". With the rebate coupon or on sale it should be under $800. I own 2 BGH's and both perform well, but need to be run wet with light gun oil. Both pattern steel very well. The I-12 is getting hammered. I put 2 together the other day and was not impressed with the fit & finish. But just like the early M2000's, they may just have a few bugs to be worked out or maybe the light loads just don't work. Even though I'm buying an Xtrema II this year and have shot many, many, Berettas, I still prefer the simplicity of the Benelli inertia system. I've shot the M1 & M2, both are just about perfect in my book. I'd save my money and buy the SBE II though - I've shot the SBE or SBE II since 1990 with no complaints yet....... mudhen - CA

The manual is not too clear. It sounds like Z gives the least drop (50 mm) at heel, and C gives the most drop (65 mm) at heel. Mine came with B installed. I wanted a bit more drop so I switched to C, and it fit better. I also added the raised comb cheek pad. mudhen - CA

I just ordered a waterfowl Rhino .715 from Margaret @ Rhino. They offer it in SS or they can brown the finish like they do on the turk chokes. She said it was the best choice for my needs - I shoot Kent TM 3's & 5's at 35-40 yards. I also get decent patterns from Carlson extended chokes in .700, .705, and .715. mudhen - CA

Given that ducks vocalize the rolling feed call from the air, I don't utilize that call from the ground. I do use the feed call that ducks use on the water, which is just a fast series of ticks or digs, with no connecting notes. mudhen - CA

Many brands to choose from: Rhino, Briley, Carlson, etc. They are best used with slugs made for rifled choke tubes like Remington Buckhammers, etc. mudhen - CA

I shot a walking buck in Iowa last year at 97 yards, freehand, open sight SBE I, one shot stop. Same barrel on the SBE II. No Iowa tag for me this year, but that same SBE I is going without me, now sporting a Nikon Pro-Staff 2-7x32, my buddy gets 4" groups at 100 yards. We'll see what happens. I think it just depends on where you will be hunting. Open sights and red-dots are good for snap shooting, scopes are good for tree stands and/or field shooting. I think Benellis slug barrels are among the best made - maybe the 24" matters? Good luck! mudhen - CA

I found mine very easy to remove. 17mm socket. It has a threaded tension ring to keep it in place - no more locktite or heat. The drain hole appears to have been relocated so the tube drains through the stock and not into the nut. The new nut is SS to further eliminate rust. mudhen - CA

SBE I's dropped at first, went back up, and have stayed up. I can find SBE II's in camo for $1249 just about any day. Cabelas ran them for $1249 (or $1279) in one camo color & barrel size (26" Timber I think). mudhen - CA

Benellis tend to run short this time of year. With many waterfowl seasons already started, and many more to start soon, most folks have bought or ordered theirs already. I would have your dealer try to get one from a fellow Benelli dealer. I see LH's in Sacto all the time. mudhen - CA

I use 3.5" in the wind so I can get more large pellets on the bird. Also, I use 3.5" Winchester ER's for turks, they pattern much better than the 3" WER. mudhen - CA

Pretty simple; Beretta Mobil = Benelli Standard (fits SBE I, M1, Nova, and older Montes - I hear newer Montes come with Crio Choke) Beretta Optima = Benelli Extended Crio Choke (fits Sport II, SS, and I presume Cordoba) Beretta Optima Plus = Benelli Crio Choke (aka Crio Plus) fits SBE II & M2 & some newer Montes Those three 'special' choke tubes in the catalog don't exist yet - the photo is wrong anyway - they are clearly black Extended Crio Chokes I have patterned many turkey chokes for my SBE II. All sucked but one, the Rhino 1.5" Extended in .660. Comp-n-Choke sucked, Terror major sucked, Kicks sucked, etc. Rhino was the only company that even tested their choke in the SBE II. mudhen - CA
