Tucker -- have you tried the KG Gon-Kote firearm lubes?
  3. I've found that directing my customer service concerns to the nearest brick wall is slightly more productive than the email. My theory is that nobody at Benelli USA speaks italian, and nobody at Benelli Italy speaks english. All phone conversations between the two take place in two different languages. So therefore Benelli USA has no idea the factory only operates two weeks out of the year and all products are shipped via barge. [ 09-14-2005, 11:25 PM: Message edited by: 69beers ]
  4. I find it to come out much easier if the bolt is forward. Then you just stick it back in far enough to pull the bolt back and lock.
  5. I know this is going to be a shocker for many, but my SBE is still not cycling lighter loads. Since I put in my Sure-Cycle I've shot maybe 100+ slugs and 3 1/2 turkey loads. I've also gone against SRM's instructions and lubed the recoil assembly with some militec. Comparing it to my friend's 2000+ rounds SBE my recoil spring is a little stiffer and has a "spring sound" when pulled back. What I have noticed it where my bolt begins cocking the trigger it becomes stiff, and is about where it hangs up on that second shell. I have only been oiling the contact surfaces where the trigger and bolt meet. What is the recommended method, if any, of oiling the trigger assembly? I know I could spray it down good with remoil, but I'm a little hesitant since I hunt in some pretty cold/wet environments and have heard of it freezing. I should also note that Allen Timney did some work on the trigger to lighten the pull and remove creep. I can't imagine this would have anything to do with it. Common sense tells me it might be the total lack of oil.
  6. All right jackasses, my internet cut out while I was posting and I couldn't get back on. That's f___ing hilarious though, and I expect nothing less. The question is will this hurricane screw up the dove hunting in the southeast? Opening day is tomorrow across the region. I have zero experience with doves and don't know how they would react this type of weather.

    MOJO Dove

"Robotic Decoys are for XXXXX" Actually I never considered that terminology, but I have to agree with you since it does fit the description. What used to be considered vibrators could now be called "robotic decoys." With all the technological advances we've seen in the adult novelty business over the last decade, and if this trend continues, "robotic decoy" may be an understatement in the future! Elk Hunting

My buddy just got drawn for a bull elk permit in KY! Since he basically won the lotto and doesn't want to piss away his chance at a once in a lifetime hunt, what is the best way to find a guide for an area very new to elk hunting? Obviously this is a very different situation than NM, CO or WY. for the past few years it has been 10 tags a year, then last year was 40, now he is one of 100 to be drawn. $10 for the drawing and another $25 for the tag.....unf***ing believable!!!!!!!!!
  9. I haven't worn underwear in 12 years and now I'm ordering some manties. They look breathtaking........
  10. Drundel, Does your SC cycle light loads (skeet, dove)? I figured mine needed the usual break-in routine. That didn't work so I oiled it with Militec-1 in hopes this will "accelerate" the break-in. I would take it apart and lube it correctly but my gunsmith, after I told the hillbilly 3 times not to, put loctite on the end cap so I can't get it off without heating it up and boogering the threads again on the stock retaining stud. I'm in no hurry to put a torch to my gun at this point and can live with my 20g for doves this year.
  11. I've never been dove hunting before and I'm going to try it out this year. One of my friends swears by a method that seems a little questionable and I was wonder if anyone had ever heard of it before. He claims that if you take a big orange tarp and lay it out in the field a month or two before season, continue to spread seed on it until the legal deadline for baiting (ten days). Then you take the seed off but leave the tarp out. He swears the doves will still swoop down to check for food and that they limit out consistently. If the seed has been removed ten days out it is not baiting, so this is apparently legal. Like I said, I've never been dove hunting and don't know much about it.
  12. Found one. Barrel fits but forend isn't even close. [ 04-25-2005, 01:48 PM: Message edited by: 69beers ]
  13. It was at Bass Pro 2 1/2 hours away and I haven't found one in my town yet.
  14. Has anyone tried to fit a SBE slug barrel (newer model, like an 01-02) on the SBEII? The web site states they're the same, but I don't know if they changed something for the SBEII. Are all barrels interchangeable between the SBE and SBEII? I made the very expensive mistake of picking up the SBEII for the first time a couple days ago. If my SBE slug barrel actually fits I think I'm sold.
  15. Here is an overview of where I hunt: The property consists of a large hay field overlooking a hardwood ridge with a creek at the bottom. On the other side of the creek is the property line and another hay field. On top I have a 150x75 yard alfalfa/clover field surrounded by a 5' wide cedar/brush fence row. I built a blind in the corner of the fence row 32 yards from where the birds enter, which is a trail heavily marked with gobbler tracks and droppings. Just on the other side of this field it rolls down hill with 30 yards of cedars and briars, then 80 yards of hardwoods until it hits the creek. The birds roost in these hardwoods, between the horizon and midway down the ridge, and sometimes (not sure what time of day) feed in the alfalfa field. Last year I set up on the creek and they all flew over the fence and into the other hay field....POW, neighbor filled his tag! Should I set up in the fence row inside of the field, down in the cedars, or try to slide down into the hardwoods? I'm a newbie and don't know if they can be called uphill into the alfalfa field after fly-down.
  16. Do you shoot Hevi-shot through the SRM .655? I am seriously considering one for my SBE and can't decide between the .655 and .670 for turkey.
  17. Is there much of a difference between #5 and #6 shot when it comes to knock down and penetration past 40 yards?
  18. Another option is to have a Surecycle stainless steel recoil spring assemply installed, then you never have to worry about lubing or corrosion. I'm guess this is why they went stainless on the SBEII. When it is time to clean it you rinse it out with water. I've also found that a very small amount of Militec-1 oil works awsome in any weather and hasn't jammed yet, unlike my Remoil, Remoil Dry, and FP-10.
  19. Yeah, the Platinum Tips shoot great too along with the Brenneke Super Sabot. These were third best out of by gun after Lightfields and Partition Golds. I don't know what to say about the Lightfields anymore. When you get sighted in for the Platinums you may want to try out a box of Partition Golds. They will shoot about 2-3 inches higher and might group better, but maybe not. Only your gun knows!
  20. Was it breezy at all outside when you shot the Lightfields? The reason I ask is that my SBE will punch them straight through the same hole at 100 yards, unless there is any breeze. The last time I had it at the range there was about a 5-10mph crosswind and the shots were close to 6-10 inches off center and about another 4 inches high or low. Because of this I am going back to the Winchester Partition Gold 2 3/4". They get 2-3 inch groups in the same wind conditions, and about 4 inch groups at 175. On a side note I shot a small buck with a Lightfield at 30 yards (scope, off hand) right between the eyes. All that was left of the head was a bottom jaw and two ears, literally.
  21. From what I understand the SBEII slug gun is chambered for 3 1/2". That means you can't shoot 2 3/4" and there is only one 3 1/2" slug (Lightfield) on the market to my knowlege. I've hunted my whole life with slugs and found that 2 3/4" are more accurate than 3" with very little difference in velocity/energy. I would go for the m2 or SBE I. My SBE shoots 1-2" groups well past 100 yards and I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on any North American big game (took it bear hunting in AK).

  23. Yes you can shoot slugs. I would use only the cylinder choke or get a rifled choke for sabots. Try out the Brenneke slugs as they seem very accurate out of smooth bore guns and do a number on deer. If you get a rifled barrel try out the Lightfields or Winchester Partition Golds. I've also heard the Federal Barnes 3/4oz are great out of SBEs but I haven't tried them out yet.

    SBE Cleaning

Check out the SRM stainless steel recoil spring assembly ($120) and magazine tube kit ($25). The biggest problem you'll get from corrosion in the SBE will happen inside the recoil spring assmebly. Cleaning it is a pain and too much lube can cause jams. I use Militec-1 for lube. A very small amount goes a very long way and protects against water great. They may be a little expensive, but it was worth it to me to never have to worry about it again. The best thing about the stainless set up it they recommend cleaning it out with........water!
