    Rail came off!

looks like i found "tuckers" raw nerve......what took you so long??? my mistake on the 300 win mag I was certain you made mention to that somewhere but I have been wrong one other time this decade! Maybe you edited that out later??? you seem to enjoy reading my "drivel"....you have responded to nearly every post i made tonight!!! was it the "data" comment that put you over the edge??? as I said in another thread....every forum needs a thread "nazi" and I think we know who it is at Benelli's!
  6. take your time....... speaking of crackberry's........i look forward to the day when I can toss mine out the window of my Denali at 80mph.....or blast it with some #7-1/2's!
  7. let em leave a blood trail........if they enter my home I won't be calling 911 (until the gun is empty) and I don't fire a warning shot!!! warning shots are for sailors.....
  8. UNSC, i noticed the owners manual for all three of these guns have the same part number but I don't know if that means they are the same.......keep us posted! check the benelli "italy" website.....i think it is http://www.benelli.it??
  9. only people from kentucky or further south say "uh-hi-ya"......no offense BAMA!
  10. Rusty, Thanks for the info, glad to here those 1 oz loads were shooting in the cold, too! It has been wicked cold here in Ohio the last couple of days and I'm dying to go shootin but more than likely will be hitting another gun show tomorrow instead....dirty job but somebody has to do it! You been using ClayBuster wads long? I love em for my sporting clays loads......... good luck with the new benelli!

"tuck" you really should change your name to the benelli forum nazi........WTF!!! maybe the rest of us want to catch up to those 4000+ posts you have!!!! relax and loosen up a little......... BTW-maybe JD is out hunting and has not had a chance to check in yet???
  12. so what if your "dummy" round fails to cycle your M4???? a "dummy" round just don't sound like a "smart" thing to me.....but hey do what you like!! my "dummy's" are ALL in a double stack .45 magazine behind the head board and a backup 9mm in my home office desk drawer!
  13. tuck and i agree benelli barrels are pricey.....i can buy a used nova cheaper than a new barrel!

    Easy Benelli?

cali, beretta is best known for their high quality O/U and have been making guns for over 500 years they got into the autoloader market before benelli became a company......the Beretta A300 was introduced in 1965 and Benelli was established in 1967 as an offshoot to the Benelli motorcycle company. Without angering some of the benelli purists on this forum, from my experience Beretta quality is superior to most benelli's and I own both. I'm not sure I understand your question "easier to shoot"??? If you mean recoil both will be similar if you mean ease of use, both will be similar.....i'm sure this doesn't help you decide, go try both guns and decide for yourself. Personally, I like the 3901 over the 391 because the 3901 fits my 6' frame and large hands.....for a woman a 391 might be better the forearm is smaller on the 391's. Clean the same way you clean your benelli M4 for the most part but the 3901 & 391 has a gas piston and these pistons need to be cleaned with a solvent and should not be lubricated. They also have small gas ports (in the barrel band) that require a small brush cleaning once in a while (if ports clog from powder residue gun wont cycle) but there are cleaning kits on the market to help with this. Gas guns are the softest shooting autoloaders on the market....not even a comfort tech benelli compares to a gas operated beretta when shooting the same loads in side by side test....i've done it personally and if I'm going to shoot 200-400 rounds of sporting clays in an afternoon I'll grab the beretta.......the benelli's are primarily my field or hunting guns. both are very reliable when cared for properly and both have a purpose in my opinion!
  15. T-H I think "tuck" is questioning your ancestry??? LOL seriously, back to the solvent aspect of your post....steer clear of Acetone Acetone or similar chemistry (MEK ETC) is very corrosive to most plastics...even some more resistant ones...like HDPE, UHMW.....not TEFLON...but TEFLON is impervious to almost everything. Brake cleaner, gun scrubber, etc....can and will harm plastics very quickly! Acetone is the primary ingrediant/whole ingrediant in nail polish remover....nail polish is mostly acrylic/polymers...clear with color molecules.....so I would say this..... DONT USE ACETONE ON ANY PLASTIC...ESPECIALLY GUNS! Some lubes use solvents....the "C" part of CLP for example is a solvent....the labels of most products will usually tell you if it contains Acetone. I know a lot of guys use Gun Scrubber but I won't touch it when it comes to "plastic" guns!

    Rail came off!

"tuck" means well....heck he has over 4000 posts on this site, he has a lot to say and I appreciate that. I never take anyones misguided comments personally either! Second, I don't think "tuck's" an engineer cause he hasn't bored us with any data yet?!?! "Tuck" simply makes broad based statements about how 4 screws in a 300 win mag and blue locktite works so well it must be good for an M4 12 ga shotgun......ha, ha! Like "tuck" said we are talking about a 12 gauge shotgun.....(for some reason "tuck" thinks I said an M4 was a 3-1/2", but I never said this in my posts......i said, "factory 3-1/2" loads were for wussy's"....never did I say an M4 was a 3-1/2" shotgun....totally out of context!) anyway, lets look at some data on 3" recoil shall we? (before we bad mouth my wimpy little .500 S&W or my "overcompensating" 10 ga Browning Gold).... "tuck" thinks a 300 win mag has a lot of recoil.....fact is a 12 ga 3" (1-7/8oz - 1200fps) load in an 8 pound shotgun has more, over 2X the recoil energy!!!! 54 lb-ft. vs 25.9 lb-ft (180gr @ 2960fps in 8# rifle)....notice I am using a 3" load NOT a 3-1/2" load! I hope "tuck" doesn't think I'm saying an M4 weighs 8 pounds, I'm using this as a constant between the rifle and shotgun in determining recoil....please don't take this out of context in future replies! since T-H mentioned his .454 Casull.......it has less recoil than the 3" 12 ga too....39lb-ft (300gr @ 1650fps in a 3.5 pound gun)......now if that .454 was a rifle (heavier) recoil would be significantly lower! so what's my point.....it isn't rocket science that threads strip on an M4 rail!! Let's review, per Mesa Tactical a thin aluminum reciever M4 with small diameter screws that tend to work loose due to recoil....the thin reciever may only be getting 2-3 threads per screw to hold the rail so I'm not surprised the screws strip out! Mesa also suggested steel heli-coils and that seems like a logical solution to the problem as well. In closing, my comments about my own experiences with epoxy on hevi recoil handguns was based on actual problems where mounts and screws routinely come loose and the epoxy solved the problem. Lot's of people, other than myself, use epoxy on mounts...I didn't invent it! "tuck" would never use epoxy on anygun, perhaps he is opposed to epoxy bedding as well but that doesn't mean others do it and it WORKS. case closed!
  17. i have not looked at nova's in a while....just bought a super nova for my teenage (18) son for turkey hunting though! He also shoots an M1 in 20 gauge from time to time and likes it very well. if there is a 20 ga nova turkey out there my guess is the only difference is camo and maybe a shorter (24" barrel)! my daughter (16) has a Remington 870 thumbhole stocked 20 gauge and she loves it....i built it up from a used youth model with a Boyd's stock and forearm, has 21" barrel for slugs and 24" ribbed for everything else. She loves shooting the benelli M1 Super 90 in 20 gauge, too. Good luck!

    Rail came off!

T-H that is wise info....i'm finished here as well ;-)

    Rail came off!

from my personal experience with epoxy mounted bases....YES, it does come off when both surfaces are properly cleaned with IPA and both surfaces are smooth....a rough surface is a whole other story!!! Removal - you won't TAP it with a plastic mallet it takes a tremendous RAP with a mallet....enough that might damage some weak or wimpy aluminum rails....but I don't use aluminum rails I prefer steel and I use steel scope rings, too......maybe too heavy for those light aluminum tactical shotguns??? I have had aluminum scope rings shear in half from recoil....good reason to use steel rings, isn't it??? Heat gun does a good job removing epoxy, too without grinding or sanding just don't try this on plastic parts! Blue Loctite isn't going to stand up to EXTREME recoil....seen that in many of my .454 Casull & .500 S&W handguns! How do you check and retighten with Blue Loctite, if it is loose it ain't holding is it??? BTW-if any of you are reloaders you know modern factory 3-1/2" ammo is for wussy's....real performance and real recoil comes from a custom load but ALWAYS keep them within the guns pressure limits!!!
  20. i got mine at Buckeye Outdoors but Gander Mountain can order them, too! they sure shoot great and I found the cheap 3" Breneke KO's or Knock Out's ($1.98 a box of 5) shot the best groups even compared to those $10-15/box sabots.....i couldn't believe it! i tested a ton of slugs too when I first got the barrel.
  21. my M1 (12ga) shoots 7/8oz loads without any problems....i've even tried some wimpy 3/4oz loads (2-1/2")and they are sloooooowwww but she still cycles them! The M2 should be about the same once all is broken in and running "loose".......good luck! PS - a 7/8oz load in a 20 gauge isn't light for a 20....3/4oz is a lighter 20 load....always a smart arse in the group!

    Rail came off!

mesa, wouldn't more screws be a reasonable solution??? I have some heavy recoil custom encore barrels that have 6 and 8 screws in the bases....i still epoxy these but it only seems logical to add more to these benelli's......it will require some custom work and added expense but sure beats watching that rail fly across the room or range!

    Easy Benelli?

beretta is the parent company to benelli.....i own several beretta 390's and frankly think there isn't a better "gas" gun on the market....even like them better than my browning golds but browning has the only decent 10 gauge these days! you can find 390's used around $500-600 in good condition but a 20 gauge might cost a little more depends on your area??? if you want new try a beretta 3901 American Citizen in 20 gauge for under $750.....the beauty of these guns is the chokes will interchange with your benelli SBE, M1 or Nova (anything with MC's)! Beretta 391's are another option but much more expensive and you may not find too many on the used market in 20 gauge! when the benelli supersport first came out I bought one for sporting clays and after my first 200 targets i sold the gun and went back to my old Beretta 390's.....these guns are really soft shooters and extremely reliable. i have shot well over a 2500 rounds in a weekend with my 390's with no malfunctions or cleaning but because they are gas and not inertia they need more routine maintenance than say a supersport, M1 or SBE.
