  1. That's a very good question, I'd check with a dealer and ask what the part number for each stock is to confirm if they are all interchangable! You can always buy one and return it if it doesn't fit.
  2. i'm with mr. witt......try several lengths and even try an o/u for "swing"! since the thread starter didn't mention what game (ie. grouse, quail, rabbits, rats) just small game it is tough to advise what is the best for his or her hunting situation. Short barrels are great for turkey hunters and I like a 24" or 26" in the grouse woods where "swing" can be limited.....but when it comes to waterfowl, pheasants, chukar or quail I like a longer gun in 28" or 30"........for sporting clays I shoot 30" and 32" barrels! Too many people today fail to realize the advantage a longer barrel provides on moving "winged" game with respect to swing and follow thru......a 30" barrel swings much faster on a crossing bird than a 24" due to a little thing called momentum!
  3. good point TH.......i'm always checking my chokes guess it became a habit when I used to shoot sporting clays competitively?!?!

    Rail came off!

Never did this on a benelli but ALL of my magnum cartridge rifles and handguns get their scope bases epoxied to the reciever or barrel depending on where the attach to the gun! A hopped up .500 S&W mag loaded to the gills kicks like a mule and is **** on scope mounts.....epoxy works great and can be removed with a plastic mallet if need be without damage to the gun! Again this might not be an option on a benelli M4 but i'd never say never!
  5. been a while since i bought any steel but i get everything from ballistic products in MN.....good people!
  6. i'd scrap those benelli's and go buy a remington 870 if I were having all these issues! BTW - i'm buyin if you guys are sellin!
  7. for late season birds I like copper plated or nickle plated shot in #5.......since I reload, nickle is easy to come by! Since I didn't read every post in this thread I might be repeating what others have said but you really should try plated lead shot on these heavily plumaged birds.....I also buffer my late season bird loads much like turkey loads for better patterns (less holes in the pattern) and use an Imp Modified choke!
  8. take them both, one might fail and you don't want to have a bad day hunting!
  9. I have been shooting a Kicks in my SBE for a few years now, tried the PatternMaster thanks to a buddy and personally didn't see a significant improvement.....not enough to switch! The PatternMaster uses a "rib" or "straight rifling" to grab the wad and slow it down and this improves patterns.....much like the Federal Flight Control wad slows down and improves patterns....the Kick's does NOT have "ribs" they claim the porting and the sharp edge grabs the wad....same principle different design! Personally, I liked them both but like I said the PM didn't impress me that much over the Kick's.....patterning is an art and when someone says 100% in a 20" circle @ 40 yards I say, "impressive, but how many holes did this pattern have?" Shooting geese is one thing but shooting clays or doves is another and I like to see patterns that a dove or clay pigeon can't fly thru....the Kick's does this while the PM had larger "holes" in my testing! Both put 98-100% in the 20" target but I liked the kicks with the ammo I was testing.....maybe an ammo change and the PM would have been superior???
  10. Skeet choke is tighter than cylinder choke........lets say cylinder is .000" constriction a skeet will be .005" constriction.....skeet II is usually .007" and Improved Cylinder is .010" tighter! I have used the Briley Speader Chokes on Sporting Clays in the past but found "spreader" wads worked better when I was reloading for my competitive shooting.....always carried a few "spreaders" and "XLR's" (XtraLongRange) in my shooting bag! Ballistic Products carries those spreader wads and might have them for steel shot???
  11. I've heard this complaint from other Benelli owners about camo pelling, flaking or chipping but I have several in HD Timber and all are in very good condition.....the only flaws have happened when I did something like sit it on the side of the duck boat and it slides down the gunwall scrapping the camo off the reciever top! If your gun is that new send it back to Benelli and have them fix it!
  12. The Super Nova & SBE's were designed to shoot 3-1/2" shotshells!!! Can't speak for the Super Nova (yet) it has not been fired since it was just purchased this past weekend. However, my SBE's all shoot great with 3-1/2" shells.....I hear more issues with 2-3/4" light target loads than the big magnums. I'd give the SupaNova a good "chamber" cleaning and make sure I have a couple of new boxes of steel shells (different brands) and hit the sporting clays course! Sometimes a dirty chamber caused by 2-3/4" or 3" shells can cause 3-1/2" guns to fail as you described....keep a chamber brush handy and clean those chambers if you shoot small them go big....its not a problem if you shoot big then go down to shorter shells (typically)!
  13. i'd look for a used SBE or M1 and never look back! purchased a M1 Super 90 in 20 gauge a few years ago for $450 in HD Timber camo and both my son & daughter took their first turkey & deer respectfully with that gun....I love to use it on dove hunts! Best money ever spent on a multipurpose shotgun!
  14. td, I've been shooting an SBE or M1 on Turkey's for years.....both guns pattern about the same with the same choke and ammo! Recently I purchased a Super Nova for my son and hope to try those same chokes and ammo in this gun as soon as we get some decent weather here in Ohio....its darn cold right now! As far as the SteadyGrip is concerned I'm in the same boat.....don't have one (yet) but I have several other guns with thumbhole stocks that are great for turkey hunting (or deer slug hunting). With any luck I should have a SG stock in a few days to try out....i'll keep you posted. If I were in your shoes I'd send that SBE off for a little camo treatment or keep using the cover....but if you want to do something for the economy go buy a new gun!
  15. If you are like my teenage son & daughter they don't spend a lot of money on choke tubes or ammo! My kids hunt but would rather spend money on video's, downloads, MP3's, taco bell and guitar hero!!! Here are some relatively inexpensive chokes for Mobil Choke (Benelli/Beretta) guns that shoot well with good old inexpensive copper plated lead turkey loads (Federals); HS Strut Undertaker (.665) = patterns well with both #5 & #6 Federal Copper Plated Primos TightWad (.655) = patterned best with #5 Federals HS Strut UndertakerHS (.675) = patterned best with #4 Federal Copper or Hevi-Shot #6 Hevi-Shot is EXPENSIVE and will pattern better at longer distances but you can't go wrong with good ole copper plated lead.....if you know somebody who reloads have them load some nickle plated shot sometime then take it to the pattern board with your favorite turkey choke tube!!!
  16. Nodak, Great bird!!! ....and the best part of this story is the gear you used ....20ga SxS, full choke, Win XX mags!!!
  17. Your Super Nova (and the one I recently purchased for my son) should shoot the same chokes equally as well as an SBE.....I say this because I have M1's & SBE's, Beretta's autoloaders and O/U's that ALL use the Mobil Choke's and have dozens of aftermarket choke tubes and ALL of them pattern pretty close. The only difference is POI between some of my guns because they are set up differently (field guns verses competition guns) but the patterns are ALL very close. The only two guns I have personally found this did not apply to was Franchi's 612 and the Beretta Pintail, they both use Mobil Chokes but had patterning issues that appeared to be caused by improper choke alignment when the barrel was threaded by the manufacturer! You could actually see the misalignment when looking done the bore from the muzzleend of the barrel. Extended chokes are the only way to go for improving patterns for turkey or competition shooting. Some folks like ported chokes others don't.....it's up to the shooter, some say ports reduce recoil others disagree....I think they look cool....some choke makers claim their ports or slots slow the wad and improve patterns, some claim straight rifling does the same thing as slotted chokes! If you go with ported chokes make sure it is safe to shoot Hevi-Shot if you intend to shoot Hevi-Shot....some ported chokes have come apart due to the hardness of Hevi-Shot (Comp-N-Chokes come to mind but u might double check their website). DISCLAIMER - Every gun regardless of manufacture is different, every lot and manufacture of ammo is different and every choke tube is not like the other so the best thing to do is experiment (its fun too)!!! PLEASE DON'T SHOOT @ 55-60 YARD TURKEYS, EITHER!!!
  18. I am not a big fan of optics for ANY shotgun and have used fiber optic sites for many moons on ALL of my shotguns for both turkey and deer. My reason for this is based on several considerations, my shots are seldom over 20 yards and without optics I don't have to worry about lens' fogging up or getting wet....I had lasik surgery a few years ago to get rid of my eye glasses for the same reason (fog & wet lens')!!! Having said that I recently picked up a used Encore Shotgun barrel with a Nikon Turkey Pro scope on it and may give it a go this spring. This scope has an interesting reticle design that they claim helps one determine the distance to the target (turkey's head) and if you are into taking 40 yard shots this would be the perfect scope. Having shot ground hogs for years here in Ohio with a 22-250 at ridiculous distances before laser range finders judging distance to a 500+ yard whistle pig was always a bit challenging unless one learned to use his reticles to determine distance. The Nikon Turkey Pro does this by giving the shooter a 40 yard sized window for turkey sized targets. I have shot a few shotguns with red dot's but the idea of having a battery operated unit on my gun does not appear to me.....fiber optics NEVER fail and NEVER fog!!!
  19. Steel, assuming your scope is mounted and "bore sighted" properly......you first fired the gun from a rest and taking aim at dead center of the bullseye on your 25 yard target....if the majority of the pattern appears to be 3" to the left move your scope left per the scopes MOA adjustment. Many shotgun scopes are 1/4" clicks while others are 1/8" at 100 yards so to move 1" it required eith 4 or 8 clicks respectively. Obviously at 25 yards a 3" ajdustment will require a lot more clicks....48 to be exact with a 1/4"MOA scope! The same can be accomplished as gregor187 describes but I'd use a vise rather than have someone hold the gun on the POI....both methods work well.
  20. i've used both and they work great.....a larger dia fiber optic sight will not alter your POI enough to be a concern. The HiViz is on my M1 and I have a truglo on my browning golds....the HiViz came with several different thread inserts that make it a universal fit on many guns.
  21. lisa, next time use a good quality high temp grease.....moly if u can find it.....on the choke threads! your hubby more than likely has some in the workshop.
  22. I saw an M4 last weekend at a local gun show with PG and the guy was asking $1250.....gun was like new if you like those "black" guns! If it had been camo I woulda jumped on it faster than (enter phrase of choice here). Also saw a Super Nova Tactical (no PG) for $300 and it too was like new! If it had the PG it would have went home with me and I would be selling a stock & barrel for more than the whole gun cost me.....

    M1 vs M2

Buy the M1 and don't look back! My understanding on "Factory" Mag Tubes is Benelli is only going to sell them to LE & military here in the USA. However, there are some of these still around and available from a few dealers. Good Luck!
  24. I've been told the SBE2 stock will fit an SBE and the SBE will fit an M1Super90 so to answer your question....it should?!?! Disclaimer - I've never tried it but if it don't fit you can always sell it!
