  1. my suggestion is buy thenm and sell them to a buddy with a rifled slug barrel at a slight profit! sabots don't shoot so well from a smooth bore barrel........
  2. my son's 2005 gobbler w/M1Super90 20ga; sorry, didn't think to put the gun in the pic....if this don't get you cranked up for turkey season nuttin will!
  3. found an old pic from 2004's season & the old "10bore"; yep, that's a custom camo tape job!
  4. oldgobbler, another 10ga guy.....welcome to "the benelli club"!!! nice website, btw.....goodluck with the nova! I'm waiting on the weather to break here in ohio to try out the new SuperNova I bought for my son....he doesn't know it yet but i'm giving it to him for his 20th birthday. He has been shooting my M1S90 20ga and bagged a nice gobbler with it a couple of years ago.
  5. matt, i'm holding out for the 20 gauge version....AA20??? then it's off to argentina for a dove hunt!
  6. nk, i'm assuming you are talking to me??? I've been called a lot of things in my life but "slick" was never one of them i don't know where the property in IL is located??? a business associate from the Chicago area ownes the land and asked me if i'd like to turkey hunt the place. the only stipulation is i have to take him and his son and "guide" them.....it took me about .0001" of a second to say "heck yeah"!!! my scouting trip has been pushed out until early march so i'll let you know when i know.
  7. mud, you take some excellent pics.....here is my lame attempt from last spring! 2007 Ohio Gobbler....note the "mighty 10" is in the pic, too!
  8. MMP, all very valid points! I liked shooting the old "street sweeper" too, we used to laugh about how quickly we could go thru a 1/2 box of shells!
  9. c, Yes, a dealer can order 1 of anything for the most part. As far as it being a 2008 model, it is unlikely! Any Benelli in the USA right now was more than likely made in 2007. Your "dealer" may not even be buying directly from the manufacturer sometimes there is a wholesaler or distributor involved....this is why Bass Pro or Cabela's will have better prices than "Bubba's Gun Shop" on some models. The big boys buy in volume and usually directly from the source and the little guys go thru distribution or wholesalers. Was the person the owner or manager of the shop? If not, I'd go back and ask to speak with the owner or manager and ask him to knock 10% off because of the "scratched" camo, you might just get a better deal. Sounds like a little "testers" model paint would cover the flaw and it certainly isn't going to be a bad shooter as a result of some cosmetic issues.
  10. These are the backup guns; SuperNova....my son's birthday present SuperBlackEagle....with SBE2 barrel
  11. sputter, the optimua plus is the same choke as the cryo plus. duck, i'm partial to the #5's myself but some of my "tighter" chokes shoot (pattern) #6's better....don't fall prey to sticking to one shot size because your gun and choke combo might like a different size! mud, i agree with you on Hevi-Shot it is the most un-uniform (is that a word) shot I've ever seen with respect to size, but I think this is why it has done so well in some of the NWTF competitions in the past. We (handloaders & shotshell mfg) use buffer to fill the voids and prevent the pellets from deforming (creates flyers) and to some extent this is what happens when shot size varies. I make some buffered tri-plex loads for my 10ga that consist of 4x5x6's and a load that is 5X6X7-1/2.....this is what the boys at Nitro do as well....the patterns tend to be much better (99%@35yds & very dense in the head & neck region) than say #5 or #6. Some people will argue that duplex & tri-plex loads are not good because of the difference in energy between the different size shot but 2 dimentional patterns don't know this! Now the "shot string" should show the energy difference but i have no way of accurately measuring "shot string"....i've tried some crazy stuff but thats a whole other thread! Let's say for the sake of argument the #4's hit the target (turkey) before the #5's and the #6's are bringing up the rear does the target (turkey) really care?
  12. MMP, I beg to differ with you on that......the "original" street sweeper only had a 12 round capacity and while shooting it the thing was impossible to keep on target after the 3rd or 4th shot! You also had to "wind-up" the street sweeper magazine because it operated by a clock-spring (weak design). If you watch this video you can see how the AA12 is virtually recoiless and has a 32 round capacity if your so inclined....WOW! My guess is a weapon of this design (AA12) would cost way over $5000....the "original" street sweeper was a toy by comparison....kinda like comparing a .45 Thompson Sub-Machine gun to a Mini-Gun, no comparison! (IMHO) Here is a link to the "old" street sweeper; http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/sh09-e.htm
  13. eagle, i personally think a .655" choke is too tight for the #5's and way too much choke for HS or HD loads (winXR)....i would lean toward a .670" or .675" when shooting HS or HD loads! It has been my experience that this dense shot shoots better patterns in slightly more open chokes.....i've had good success shooting #6's and some experimental #7-1/2" (reloads) of high density shot in tighter chokes (.660-.665")......most manufactures of both Hevi-Shot & High Density ammo will recommend .675" as the tightest choke to consider for this ammo! i'm sure others will have some comments on this.....contradicting my own experience but that's what is so great about these forums, you can get so many opinions!
  14. The old street sweeper is redesigned and lives in the AA12......see the link below; http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/guns/recoilless-auto-shotgun-fires-300-rounds-per-minute-no-cleaning-or-lube-required-324453.php?autoplay=true
  15. NK, it was an interesting video.....here is a pic of a "yard rat" shot with a gamo .177 and retrieved by the Jack Russell Terrorist; he thinks he killed it!
  16. breaking my own rule.... .22-250 Chuck Killer BG10, aka "Mighty 10"...big Turkey Medicine
  17. suburban pest control is what I use my gamo for......I live on 10 acres but there are too many houses around me for safely firing anything else. I'm usually shooting bird feeder destroying squirrels and sending the jack russell out to retrieve them! About a month ago our great pyrenese had a coon cornered under our front porch.....he was dispatched with a .410 after the jr ran him out into the front yard. I also use the .410 with 2-1/2" light reloads (made from .444 Marlin brass) to kill moles in the yard.
  18. DC, I pretty much shoot 3" exclusively from my SBE & SBE2 guns on turkey but I have not yet used any choke in my SBE2 other than a Rhino (.660")......I just ordered a MadMax in .665" for the SBE2 from cabelas for $19.88 (non-ported) to test some HighDensity Federals. The .660 Rhino patterns well with my favorite reloads....I have worked up some buffered copper plated and nickle plated duplex loads that perform as well as the Nitro stuf but for a lot less coin! I think MudHen is using the JellyHead in his SBE2 and is getting great results....search the threads for his patterning info....he is shooting 3-1/2" if memory serves me but I don't recall his favorite load. good luck!

  20. Hunter82, sorry about my slow reply......in my benelli's (12ga) i'm using either the Kicks High Flyer Modified or Full depending on my hunting conditions and Federal HighDensity Waterfowl loads. Here are my loads & conditions; Decoy Shooting = (closer ranges 20-30yds) Loads = Federal PHD197 3" #4 Choke = Modified Pass Shooting = (longer distance 30-40yds) Loads = Federal PHD197 3" #2 Choke = Full If I'm field hunting Geese (or dux on big water) that are a bit decoy shy and shots are going to be long (40 yds or more) I reach for the Browning Gold 10ga. If I shoot factory loads I have found the Federal PH195's in BB get the job done from a Kick's XF 10ga choke. However, I typically load my own shells for the mighty 10 and seldom purchase factory ammo these days. Since it is getting difficult to find bismuth in bulk I might have to go back to reloading steel...
  21. NK, I did watch that gamo video and two things are evident; 1.) that hog was NOT fifty yards away, looked more like 20-25ft (maybe less). 2.) the hog was almost facing him so my guess is he shot it in the eye. Based on that video one could conclude a gamo pellet gun can take an elephant if your standing close enough and shoot it in the eye......me, I wouldn't hunt wild hogs (or elephants) with a gamo!!! Have you ever seen guys who hunt wild hogs with knives....I'm sure there are some youtube videos on this if you seasch....this is another type of hunt that isn't high on my list but people do it and enjoy doing it. it was fun to watch....... SgtCathy, when I was a kid we used to shoot muskrats around a few local farm ponds.....shot bull frogs, too around the same ponds and a local creek........our favorite weapon was my dad's 22lr H&R revolver! a friend down the road used his dads 22lr ruger single six and we would shoot for hours along those banks. Your thread brought those memories back....that was a bucnh of fun for some 13-14 yr old boys! Today, if you gave kids that age a 22lr revolver they would more than likely kill each other.....it's a different world to say the least!
  22. rooster, we hunted with the folks at OJBar a few years ago.......it might not be the "mom & pop" operation you had in mind but they make it feel "mom & pop" and only hunt a couple thousand acres. here's a link http://www.ojbar.net/794.html
  23. take a look at this link.....they say the stocks are the same??? http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=244536
  24. I've only run across a handfull of guys who tried a Benelli and didn't love them.....they were mostly Beretta guys, too! Just got too used to the soft shooting gas systems I guess??? Like Spur said "Benelli's Rock".......... Good Luck with the new 'nelli and kill some turkeys with it this spring!
  25. rut, Try sportsmans guide for the stock at the link below; http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=244536 also try able ammo and search "benelli stock", here is a link; http://www.ableammo.com/ According to the folks at Sportsmans Guide the SBE, M1, Montefeltro & Legacy wood stocks are all the same?!?! I didn't know the Monte & Legacy were the same but I don't know everything.....at least not yet!!
