  1. HOWEVER: A rifled barrel is needed to fire a shotgun sabot slug accurately. Unlike a regular slug that has most of its weight up front, a sabot slug is more like a rifle bullet and will not be nearly as accurate when fired from a smoothbore shotgun. We did some tests and at 50 yards various sabot slugs fired from smoothbore shotguns had groups nearly 2.5 times that of the rifled barrel with many of the slugs keyholing and others not even hitting paper at that distance. I imagine Benelli doesn't have a ghost-ring rifled barrel because there isn't much call for one. Most ghost-ring sights are on defensive/offensive type shotguns and a rifled barrel probably isn't the best on a gun that is called upon to shoot various types of defensive loads. The rifled barrel is more of a specialized, hunting-type shotgun barrel probably gets a scope mounted on it more than not. My take anyhoo.
  2. I've got 4 M1 S90's, all HK imports, that still have their original forend. The 1990 and '92 versions have 2. The 1995 and '96 versions have 4. Not sure at which point they made the change. Brilliant deduction: 93 or 94? Who knows? I think we can all agree that 1 ring is not enough. The actual number it should have can probably be determined by looking inside the front portion of the forend where the barrel ring is inserted. The ones (mine, anyway) that have two are held in place by a "bump" on either side. The ones that have 4 have a "groove" or "notch" on either side. The outer-most flat ring has a small flange on either side that stick out and ride in the groove. Most of the fitting problems I've seen over the years with the Surefire Light forends is getting the wrong one for the gun. There are at least two versions that differ because the outside diameter of the magazine tube at its widest has been changed over the years, causing the fit problems. Not sure if those changes correspond to the changes in the number of forend rings. It's all very confusing and drives me crazy sometimes. FWIW, I can say without reservation that handheld lights and long guns are a lousy combination. Weapon mounted lights are the way to go for a defensive use long gun, hands down. (no pun intended) (ok, maybe just a little)
  3. LOOKS LIKE HOOKSTER WAS HITTING THE SEND BUTTON WHILE I WAS STILL TYPING Shotgun? Proof marks are your best bet. I've found this list to be useful although I can't vouch for its complete accuracy. There's a small square on the bottom of the receiver just above the trigger guard that contains the letters. In the case of my M1's and M2's it appears accurate based on my knowledge of when I got the guns. Benelli M4?

M4 is not your gun. While you can use it as such, it's not really a hunting gun. For what you describe, Super Black Eagle in my opinion or Super Vinci. M4 doesn't take 3.5" shells (do they even make 3.5" slugs?).
  5. Check with Numrich Gun Parts. They show two tubes for earlier serial numbers. One is the 7 round. The other isn't specified as to capacity but says "fine thread". They should be able to tell you if the "fine thread" version is a standard capacity. Why don't you just get a magazine limiter and retaining ring instead. Numrich shows them in stock a lot cheaper than a new tube. Those guns were originally shipped with a limiter. I still have mine. That way, you can shoot ducks with this gun without having to go through the expense and hassle of changing out the whole magazine and you've got two guns in one. The limiter is easily removed when not hunting.
  6. Sorry, I don't enter contests. Wait . . . Did I just enter a contest?
  7. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/23393-M1-and-M2-Barrels?p=139275#post139275 Read the entire thread for the answer regarding M1/M2 barrels. I've never had a M3 but I think the barrel lug mounting is different than the M1 due to the semi/pump switch mechanism. Short answer to your question: M2 barrel will fit a M1 receiver. You must use a M2 forearm, or modify the M1 forearm as shown in the thread above. The M2 forearm will fit some of the older M1's but not all due to differences in the external dimensions of the magazine tubes.
  8. Probably a combination of things, i.e., different trigger guard geometry; difference in Benelli inerta recoil vs Beretta gas operation. Suggestion - if you're killing the birds with 3" shells, stick with those.
  9. Browning Citori O/U 12ga
  10. Here's the real group shot. We had 12 shooters. 10 Benelli shooters. One Browning A5 and another one that was too embarrased to put his gun in there.
  11. Abbey makes a retrieve. Our outfitter wanted us to take a group shot with all our birds at the end of each day. We poked a little fun with this one.
  12. Three days in SD. ROOSTER!! This guy almost ran me down.
  13. This may be part of the problem: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/29184-Difference-between-early-and-later-m1-forends-Will-later-models-fir-HK-m1S90
  14. Difference between older and newer.
  15. Didn't that di**head sign some stupid ineffectual ammo bill in Kali a while back? Just another liberal hollywood prostitute who makes millions in movies glorifying violence and guns while wagging his finger at anyone who would have the audacity to want to use them for protection/sport in real life.
  16. STUPID 2 PHOTO LIMIT PER POST Generic Birdshot pulled out of a bucket - 7th shell will make it with room to spare
  17. Graphic Illustrations, all "2 3/4" length. Very small differences per shell add up. Federal Vital Shok full power OO Buck - Will barely load 7 in full length M4 mag tube with absolutely no room to spare - sometimes the 7th won't make it Federal LE 13200 Low Recoil OO Buck - Will not load 7th shell at all - will be necessary to shorten the magazine spring to get them all in there
  18. There you go! Hopefully, a few pics from SD forthcoming next week.
  19. You know the rules. Pics or it didn't happen.
  20. Had a C-More. Battery "life" was atrocious. Could be measured in minutes. Did not stand up to the heavy pounding of my 12ga M1. Sent back twice to get the circuitry fixed. Traded it for some ammo. Maybe the current versions are OK. I don't need to find out because my T1's and RMR's have been running without problems ever since. You'll also find that spending more for an optic than the firearm itself makes all sorts of sense, depending on the type of shooting you're doing. I've got a US Optics (+ or - 2500) sitting on top of a LMT MWS (+ or - 2300).
  21. Go with what you got. It's a metal tube. The only real advantage of the CC titanium tube, a very small one, is that it's a bit lighter. The factory tube doesn't help with 922 compliance since it's imported. Some will say don't use it for that reason.
  22. So you'll pay 5-6 hundred for a red dot sight on your thousand dollar AR but your sixteen hundred dollar shotgun is only good for a couple hundred? A gun that's probably going to put a whole lot more stress on any electronic sighting system than an AR ever will? Aimpoint T1 or Trijicon RMR
  23. I've got to ask. Why was your M1 NIB? Maybe it was crying out for someone to take him out and actually use it. I recommend buying a lightly used one (there are plenty of them out there) and shoot a 3-gun match, a round or three of skeet, or some such.
  24. I believe you'll get as many opinions as there are extensions. I suggest that you enter "extension" in the search box above and you'll get more than you bargained for. Lots of opinions here. I have a Carrier Comp on mine. There's Freedom Fighter Tactical. Benelli. Dave's Metal Works. Full length. Extenders for the OEM. Titanium. Steel. Lots of choices. Many will recommend whatever they have. I'm happy with my CC. Let the fun begin . . . . .
  25. After firing a bucket full of loose ammo of varying pedigree/load/age, etc., my M4 will now consistently cycle my favorite low recoil OOB loads from Federal. The only thing I had that it will not cycle is Winchester Featherlite Low Noise/Low Recoil AA target loads, which I certainly didn't expect it to cycle. I just had a bunch of it in the bucket and whatever was in the bucket got shot. I also got a chance to compare the Federal OOB Tactical and Vital-Shok loads. Both use the FliteControl wad. The Tactical is rated at 1100 plus or minus fps and the Vital-Shok is listed at 1345 fps. The pic below shows the results of two shots of each load at three different distances, 7, 15 and 25 yards. Other shots produced similar results. The black dots on the target are the aim points prior to making any sight adjustments. The top two groupings are the Tactical load. The bottom two are the Vital-Shok load. Each has similar results at 7 yards. At 15 yards, the Vital-Shok is starting to open up and at 25 yards have really opened up with more fliers. As expected, the tactical load held a better group out to 25 yards. Based on these results, I'm sticking with the Tactical load for my M4 and other shotguns. So far, I haven't found anything that beats it in my guns.
