    10 year clean

There are a couple of different recoil spring tubes that I have had. One with flats that you can use a wrench to take the tube off the receiver as well as take the tube apart. Another one didn't have the flats. I ended up using vice grips on it to take it off the receiver after heating the threads up a bit. The vice grip method basically destroyed the tube but I was replacing it with a stainless steel version anyway, so it didn't matter. If you have one with the flats that you can apply a wrench to, and you're looking to take it off the receiver, you still need to heat up the area where the tube attaches to loosen the loctite. You don't need a lot of heat. If you're only looking to take the tube apart without taking it off the receiver, heat up the other end to loosen the end cap.
  2. There are a couple of used +2 on GunBroker. They say M1 but if I'm not mistaken, they also fit m2. Someone will probably correct me if not. Most aftermarket makers say theirs fit M1, M2, SBE & SBE2. Don't see why the factory extension wouldn't also fit all.
  3. Other than replacing the recoil pad with something like a Limbsaver pad, there's not a whole lot you can do. Benelli made (makes?) recoil reducers that go in the buttstock of some guns but I question their effectiveness. Benellis are light, recoil operated guns and mostly, you'll just have to get used to the heavy recoil if you want to continue to use magnum loads. Personally, if I'm not getting the snot kicked out of me when I fire, it just doesn't feel right. :-)
  4. No difference in accuracy and little, if any, difference in patterning.
  5. Yes, you can get them for 4 to 5 hundred, depending on the barrel. Why bother. I shoot skeet, trap and 3-gun with my 21" M1. I use the same gun for ducks, quail, and pheasants. The only thing I do is, when required, remove the mag extension and change chokes if I feel like it. Usually, I just keep an improved cylinder choke in it and go.
  6. I've always preferred the standard shotgun stock myself.
  7. Just took a peek at the ITAR. "Combat shotguns" are considered "significant military equipment" and are prohibited from being shipped overseas from the US (without jumping through all the necessary hoops with the State Department). Also prohibited for shipment are "components, parts, accessories and attachments" to the listed equipment. I'm no expert in International Law but I think a Benelli M4 probably fits the definition of a "combat shotgun". Someone else might want to ship you a pistol grip stock from here in the states but not me. They might be OK to IMPORT into AUS but I don't think it's OK to EXPORT from US.
  8. Well it may be prudent for an OEM but not necessarily for an after-market parts maker. I've got older guns that the red has worn off over the years. How about a dab of red fingernail polish?
  9. This may be a part that is subject to ITAR (Internation Traffic in Arms Regulations) that would prohibit someone from sending it to a foreign country from the US.
  10. These pics are from my M1 20 ga. but I would think there haven't been any changes in these parts. These are the pieces in the front of the forearm, behind the barrel ring when installed. When installed, right to left in the picture is front to back on the gun. This is the rear of the forearm. The plastic "cylinder" protrudes a bit to the rear and fits into a recess around the magazine tube, in the front portion of the receiver. I'm not sure how the rear of the forearm would drop down if all of these pieces are present.
  11. The description of your problem is unclear. Not sure what you mean by "slips downward". Do you mean forward and backward along the axis of the gun or up and down, perpendicular to the barrel. If you grab the barrel and try to twist it back and forth, does it move as well? Make sure there is a steel washer in the front of the forearm that the barrel ring sits on when mounted. I've seen folks disassemble their guns, take that washer out and neglect to put it back in, or put it back in between the ring and magazine cap/barrel nut.
  12. Leaving in the morning for 3 days in SD.
  13. I use IC in my M1 but I hunt early (opening weekend). As Novaking mentioned, later in the season, you might be taking longer shots and a tighter choke would be more appropriate. Bring several. Conditions can change from field to field.
  14. When it happens again, look closely at the bolt. You'll find that the bolt head has not completely rotated into battery, thereby not allowing the firing pin to move forward enough to strike the primer. I have an older M1 that used to do it. It had a blued bolt head. I changed it to a newer chromed bolt head and have had no more problems. I've got three other M1's of the same vintage and none of them have ever had the problem. Various other methods have been put forth but I don't know that there's just one fix. Making sure the bolt is properly lubricated, stronger recoil spring and cleaning have been mentioned with varying degrees of success.
  15. Yes, good deal. Excellent gun. M1 is an older version of the current M2. I use mine for clays and an annual pheasant hunt. Go out and shoot.
  16. My M1's group best with Brenneke's. No doubt about it, they're great slugs.
  17. Yes, +2. Total magazine capacity for that configuration is 5 rounds.
  18. Have you contacted Benelli? I bet they'll make it right. Otherwise, they come up occasionally on GunBroker and other sites. Google is your friend.
  19. Not to sound flip but: more practice on that station with that gun? I'm not a trap shooter but I shoot skeet regularly. When I first started, I was frustrated at not hitting targets consistently at certain stations when running through a round. I started getting to the range early before a lot of folks showed up and shot a whole round at one station where I had a problem. It wouldn't have mattered if I had a single barrel Stevens break-open or a $10K Italian job. High-end equipment is no substitute for trigger time.
  20. Unscrew the extension from the original cap that has the sling plate already attached and fabricate a plug that replaces the extension and use the original cap. Otherwise, since I assume this is for your 10 inch thing you're building, ditch the two point sling and go with a single point sling attachment between the stock and receiver.
  21. Yeah, the site says "in stock" BUT, I've had 2 on order since the first of December last year and haven't gotten them yet. E-mails claim they're waiting for the OEM parts from Benelli. I have two of the GGG parts on other guns and I really like them. The only difference between the two is the shape of the pad itself. Otherwise, they both use the factory benelli release that they drill/tap and put the pad on.
  22. They don't make a 20" VR barrel. The 21" is the shortest VR available for the M1:
