  1. Cain, I strongly recommend that you shoot a Benelli or two before buying one. While the recoil is not an issue with the majority of Benelli owners, we've seen more than a few new owners who are astounded by how much they kick. The guns are lighweight and there's no gas system to vent energy that would otherwise go towards generating recoil. In addition to the recoil, there's the matter of light loads. The Benelli's are recoil operated and they rely on recoil energy to function properly. Benelli has specific recommendations converning all of their 12 ga. guns, yet every year people buy them and ignore the recommendations; then they come here and complain about the gun not cycling. The Benelli is first and foremost a hunter. I'm not trying to talk you out of one. I'm just asking you to make an informed decision on a major investment.

  3. You get to shoot them in the AM?! We have to wait until noon to start shooting. I did have a first for me today. Had a nice one coming left to right at about 20 yards. Pulled through and led, pulled the trigger and he virtually exploded. When I recovered him, the head was gone completely. No wonder he couldn't see me .

If the money's not an issue, then definitely go with the SBEII. 3.5" if you want to use it. WAY easier to maintain.
  5. I've got the C&H magazine cap model and it works very well. Click here to see it
  6. I use modified.
  7. The size is 13 mm on the SBEII. I believe the SBE is the same.
  8. Use the modified choke.
  9. And I had several years of high school science and chemistry. Aluminum (symbol Al in the periodic table) is an element. All aluminum is all aluminum, with no other elements present. For the sake of sales and marketing, and just general ease of use, common alloys used in our society are referred to using the general term "aluminum", but they are not pure aluminum. Pure aluminum is relatively weak and has a low tensile strength. Pure aluminum is highly reflective and is used in optical coatings and the manufacture of mirrors. Aluminum alloys contain other metals like copper, silicon, zinc, iron, tin, magnesium, etc. to achieve the desired properties.
  10. Not steel and I don't believe it's all aluminum either. An aluminum based alloy of some sort.

  12. pintale, Both the metal and synthetics benefit greatly from a generous coat of Hoppes Elite Field Cleaner. Let it soak in for about 10 minutes and then wipe off the excess with a clean dry lint-free cloth such as an old t-shirt. If the metal is still faded, you can clean it up, degrease it and spray it with a coat or two of duracoat gun finish. if you want to be creative, you can camo the gun using Krylon or similar spray finishes.
  13. Good work! Glad it worked out for you.
  14. JSM, I assume you're not wanting to send it in for Benelli to take care of under warranty (5 years) because of the long wait you'd have to endure. That leaves you with a DIY or local help. Looking at the mid bead on my SBEII, I think DIY could be done, but it could be a delicate operation. I'm thinking that you could secure it in a padded vise and CAREFULLY drill it out with an undersized bit, leaving a small amount engaged in the threads (assuming it indeed threaded in). After drilling, you should be able to use a small bladed screw driver lightly wedged in to unscrew the remaining collar. If you didn't feel good about that, then my next best suggestion would be to take the barrel to local shop that repairs jewelery and ask if they have some means of getting it out. They've got the big lighted magnifier and lost of little tools, so they may be able to help you. I think I'd at least call CS and check on the availability of a replacement bead and whether it's screwed in or pressed in before proceeding.
  15. Excellent additional points. Thanks for helping out, mudhen. I'm eager to see that larger bore proof as well.
  16. Comfortech stock Crio-treated barrel Extended crio-treated choke tubes Corrosion-resistant recoil assembly Airtouch "grippier" checkering Maybe a wider rib? No ability to "float the fourth" without modifications .... and two I's
  17. The Comfortech furniture should fit any model without a problem.

  19. PM received and reply sent. Looks good.

  21. --------------.300 ----------30-06 OAL --------3.34" -------- 3.34" Case ------ 2.62" -------- 2.49" Rim Dia--- .532" -------- .473" Shoulder - .489 ---------- .441" I think the 30-06 magazine is going to be too narrow, but maybe not. it would be great if you could lay your hands on one to try before you buy. If you could take your magazine to a shop and compare it to the 30-06 visually, you'd get a much better idea of your chances.
  22. Good advice! If it won't cycle, it may as well be a Louisville Slugger.
  23. Use loads that meet, or better yet exceed, the recommended minimum. A couple or three boxes of heavy field loads would do nicely. Hoppes #9 is OK, but the Hoppes Elite is better. Breakfree CLP is equally good. Right-click and choose Save File As Quick Cleaning Guide
  24. Yes. i got one. I thought it was somebody on crack.
