mudhen, Congrats on the SBE2! I know you'll like it. Be sure and check that recoil pad for a good fit.

Search this forum for posts regarding the R1. I bought one last Fall and used it almost exclusively for the entirety of the VA deer season. Overall, I have been pleased with the weapon, although there have been several issues worth addressing. The second day of field use, the stock cracked in two places. I used the gun the rest of the season and then sent it in for repairs in early January. It's due to be repaired and returned in the next week or so. In Benelli's defense, they did send me a replacement stock by mail right away, but it was a mismatch in grain and tone, so we agreed to have it sent in after the season. The search will reveal posts by myself and others regarding performance and tweaks that will give you more insight into the R1. You will definitely want to know some of the things mentioned in these posts, because they will help you to get the most out of your investment. I would buy another one, even though I had some problems with mine in the beginning. It shoots great and has performed flawlessly. It weren't for the problem with the stock, I'd give it a 9 out 10. As it is, I'll give it an 8.

JD, You were asking about the SBEII. The gunsmith would simply drill and tap the top of the receiver to accomodate a standard weaver or leupold styled scope base. Deerslayer, Who are you asking?
-
I may be wrong, but the product page lists the pistol grip stocks as fitting the SBE, not the SBEII. Therefore, I believe I'd be correct in saying that it will NOT fit the SBEII. As for chokes, the patternmaster or the terror are good choices. Be careful when ordering either for the SBEII, making sure that it is the new style for the Benelli Crio/Beretta Optima series.

Spartan, I'll try to address your specific questions... 1. "What kind of shotgun is recommended for my needs?" You mentioned the SBEII and the M3 Super 90. The M3 Super 90 is more of a tactical/defense weapon, not a sporting arm. Since you're hunting and shooting trap, the SBEII is the proper choice (of the models you mentioned). 2. "Which shotgun comes with ComforTech and Crio systems?" The SBEII comes with the ComforTech and Crio systems. 3. "For something like the Super Black Eagle II, is the camo "skin" on it interchangable/replacable?" It's not so much a skin as it is a finish. It's not interchangable, but can be replaced with another finish. 4. "Finally, which shotgun requires the least amount of maintenance?" The one that's properly cleaned after each use. The SBEII is a semi-automatic shotgun. I guess Benelli simply assumed that anyone with sense enough to get to their site, read the description, and look at the pictures would have figured that part out The M3 Super 90 is convertible from semi-auto to pump action. http://www.benelli.it/Prodotti/SchedaProdotto.asp?Lan=EN&IDArticolo=165 Let me know if I missed any of your specific questions. Any competent gunsmith can drill and tap the receiver for scope mounts.

Love the new icon, mudhen. Reminds me of those old Monty Python cartoons

You have two very different needs And should consider two different guns. The SBEII, M2 Field, or the new Cordoba would all be fine choices for hunting. The M4's, etc. should be for defense and not practical for hunting. Request a new catalog for the latest in models and options. The device on the end of the barrel is a comp, or short for compensator. It is designed to reduce muzzle climb.

Your ramblings indicate that you have spent absolutely no time on the main site, researching the various models and options. I suggest that you go do that, and then come back with relevant questions.

As you know, the Montefeltro isn't pre-drilled for slings, and the forend cap isn't set up for one either. Uncle Mikes makes a sling swivel set that clamps to the barrel just above the forend and screws a stud into the stock. http://www.gunaccessories.com/UncleMikes/Swivel_Shotgun.asp scroll down to see the options If you prefer to not drill the stock, then try this one. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=673666 [ 02-20-2005, 06:31 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]

I used an 870 pump for years. I recenty sold it and bought a SBEII. While the pump was OK in most situations, I found it to be difficult to operate in certain situations and circumstances (like shooting more than once from a seated position and twisted to my left side - left-handed shooter). The auto removes these worries and lets me concentrate on downing the next mallard. I'll never use another pump.

Odering parts is not possible online from this site. Call customer service on Monday and explain to them what happened. They will guide you from there. It may be best to send the weapon in for repairs, but ask them if you can obtain the parts and make the repairs yourself. More than likely, the tube is loctited in and will need to heated for removal.

My SBEII is the same way. I've never tried it according to the manual until your post. I always remove the barrel, remove the bolt from the receiver, then pull the handle out. Comes out nice and easy when the bolt is out of the receiver. Give it a try.

Oh. I didn't realize that you only get what is blatantly obvious.

Because I understand sarcasm when I see it. Not only that, but I appreciate the power of sarcasm. The fact that TB didn't know is what lead to my comment in the first place. Get it? Didn't think so. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=smartazz

TeamBenelli, Consider changing your moniker to Team Gullible. sar·casm (särkzm) n. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule. [ 02-20-2005, 01:03 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]

I have a SBEII (my first Benelli scattergun), and I like it just fine. It performed flawlessly in the blinds and pits this year. Looking forward to turkey time!
-
BB,Have you still not bought a shotgun yet?
-
That's a good question for customer service. Give them a call. My guess would be that it would work. You may even be lucky enough for them to have one in stock, due to the fit problem with the earlier SBEII's. I requested a replacement for LH SBEII, and they even let me choose the one with the shorter LOP for no extra charge. Ordered in December, due in March.

There is no specific e-mail contact for Benelli USA. You should call customer service.

If you get shots on snow geese, they are usually going to be in the decoys when you come up. 3" shells should be more than enough for the smaller birds (compared to Canadas). My blind partner killed two Canadas yesterday with one shot, using a 2-3/4" Remington 1100. [ 02-16-2005, 09:38 AM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]

Waylon, Next trip around the moon, pick me up some cheese please

Sorry... couldn't resist. But seriously folks.... Remove the forend cap, remove the magazine cap (springloaded), remove the plastic plug from inside the spring. Push the spring back inside the magazine tube and push the magazine cap bak in place to hold it, screw the forend cap back on. When done killing snowgeese, put the plug back in.

Nice pics, stevenb. But what's this one all about? http://www.citlink.net/~lmiller/Camera2.jpg
