  1. ducman, No one here is arguing what is currently legal and what isn't. The discussion focuses on whether the laws are just or should they be changed to improve the waterfowl and the hunting of same for all. Opinions are being stated. That's what happens on forums.
  2. The report was that she was indeed paddling towards a small island on the lake, where another turkey was calling to her. The back side of the island was much closer to the shore than was her side. It is speculated that she and the other one were trying to get together and they figured the island was a good halfway point. It was closer to halfway for one than it was the other, and she probably started flying, but ran out of steam or got caught in a wind gust, and swam it in from there.
  3. It's still a 12 ga. shotgun. It will shoot magnum 3" duck and goose loads with the best of them. Just hold it a little more tightly than you did that 870. I'd hate to hear about the pretty gun and a couple of your teeth going in the drink
  4. Good Grief. DISCLAIMER: I knew what it was when I posted the darned thing. I was attempting to be humorous about it. Honkers, boots, and buckmaster - Thanks for playing.
  5. Some of you ladies seem to be oblivious to the fact that Benelli makes some of the most popular tactical and home defense shotguns there are. While I'm not into all of that like M1014, Duggan, and some others, it is a viable market sector for the company. Perhaps a new "Tactical" sub-forum would be helpful in keeping you sportsmen from accidentally clicking into threads like "home invasion, fact vs fiction". I can clearly see how you could have mistakenly assumed the discussion was going to be about chimney swallows.
  6. You think you're safe out there with the dogs and the quail and trusted friends, don't you?
  7. Yeah, but do you use a shotgun or a baitcaster?
  8. Absolutely! It goes BOOM-BOOM. That'll scare 'em for sure
  9. Follow the link and read the information given.
  10. gunbroker, ebay, etc.
  11. One can shoot first, clean later. Modern new firearms are no shipped with near as much heavy gunk on them as they once were. In fact, I haven't seen cosmoline packing grease on anything new for years.
  12. Rifled slugs are designed for smoothbores. The slug is rifled, instead of the barrel, to impart spin to stabilize the projectile. http://www.chuckhawks.com/shotgun_slugs.htm
  13. Yes, you can fire slugs through it. IC or Skeet chokes with slugs designed for smoothbore barrels only. You can also buy aftermarket slug chokes.
  14. I seriously doubt that they give it much effort at the factory. Probably just install the sights and box it up. Bore sighters are also not intended to be a means of fine-tuning the sighting system on a weapon. They merely get you close (on paper) so that the shooter can make adjustments from there.
  15. Well, I think it's a Black Duck, but my fishing buddy who took the picture said it's a Southern Loon.
  16. 1-1/4 ounce of shot or more. Heavy Field. High Velocity. 1500 FPS or faster. 3 boxes is a good start.

    SBE II

    SBEII is crio.
  18. The shot was big enough, but the choke was too tight. Ideally, I'd go with 6's and a skeet choke for those ranges.
  19. You're asking a question which can only be answered by yourself. The fact that you're asking would put the odds slightly against a yes answer. I'd say 70% no.
  20. I frequently clean between outings with the choke in, but I remove the choke and clean the barrel and threads about every 5 outings. If there is exposure to rain or muck, the choke is removed and the barrel and choke are cleaned separately. Cleaning without ever removing the choke can allow the choke tube to seize with heat, pressure, and accumulated gunk.
  21. You could have done it in the amount of time it has taken you to ask the question and return for the answer... which is YES.
  22. It's something you'll become more accustomed to checking visually from time to time in the field. Once you know what a fully closed bolt looks like, you'll get in the habit making a quick visual check while walking up birds or waiting for the next flight of ducks. The bolt can easily be bumped out of battery by bumping the gun butt on the ground or floor of a duck blind. Yes, Benelli does recommend a break-in process of firing heavy field loads to get things working together smoothly.
  23. Your video should be all you need to show what you're doing wrong. You cannot ease the bolt closed. Pull it back at least halfway and let it go. If you need to load it quietly, you'll need to push it into full battery with the heel of your hand. As the gun wears and breaks in more, it will go into battery more easily and smoothly. Did you break it in with a few boxes of heavy loads?
  24. I have yet to figure out how to make them quack, but these calls work great
