"Ask a stupid question ... you get a stupid answer" me mum used to say. LOL

I have to agree that there is something radically wrong with a religion which has as a core belief to kill the "infidels" ... which incidentally is EVERY non-islamic!!! Sure, you'll hear the politically correct crowd saying most Muslims are peaceful, and we can't paint with such a wide brush. They'll dance around the issue like a politician or lawyer and you'll never get a straight answer to the question "do they advocate murder of non-believers???" The reality is ... look around the world and who is perpetrating 99% of the atrocities against innocents??? Yes, Muslims. It's about time we wake up and stop calling a rattlesnake a rose. Well, I live across the river from the World Trade Center and worked in the debris field along with cops & firefighters the day after the 911 attack. I was all for retribution, and wouldn't have stopped with only Afghanistan & Iraq ... but Yeah, I hear you with Bush & his oil buddies. Let's turn our ports over to the country which produced three of the terrorist murders flying planes into the WTC too George??? I'm sure that will reduce my fear of a nuclear bomb coming in; ticking away; in one of those tens of thousands of containers on ships ... right??? And another thing ... if the ratio of men to women has been approximately 50% to 50% throughout the ages ... where do these "martas" who bomb women & school children to death in the name of Allah ... figure their "leaders" are going to get 72 virgin women for each of them in the afterlife??? And if one bomber gets 72 ... doesn't that leave 71 OTHER souls without a partner when THEY get to the afterlife??? I mean if I was one of those 71 nonviolent Muslims facing eternity without a woman, I'd be having something to say about the nuts strapping explosive vests on!!! Speaking of Liberals and politically correct; exactly what say do the women have in all this too? Hey, I have to say ... is this Benelli website spectacular ... or what??? Great to hear diverse opinions from Benelli people who all otherwise share a/the connection that comes with Benellis, shooting and hunting.

You might try specialty autobody shops too. Some cars use aluminum parts.

You have to test them and see which your 870 likes best. Everybody may LOVE Win. Platnum Tips, but your particular gun may hate them. IF ... it's a rifled barrel ... I'd try Win Plats, Federal Barnes Expanders, Remington Ultra Coreloks, and Lightfilelds. See which groups best for you. Go to www.tarhunt.com and rad everything you can about shooting slugs.

True Sportsmen Need to Speak Out Against This Kind of Thing
Butch-M replied to tucker301's topic in Waterfowling
Did anyone say HOW they were "killed?" Before we blame ourselves or "hunters" do we know they weren't poisoned, netted or trapped & killed by somebody with a vendetta or sick of walking in goose guano? They only said "Hunters MAY have killed them." -
The whole video would be almost comical ... if it wasn't so pathetic. I guess old Jimmy qualifies as a “media fabricator" type now. Kind of reminded me of Richard Nixon & Watergate with that “open letter” and paranoiac “they want to watch Jimmy burn” statement. “I really don’t think that many people care one way or the other Jimmy.” What they DO care about is some semblance of ethics and fair play from EVERY hunter; be it a novice, rookie kid , an experienced old salt, or a supposed “professional” who makes his living at it. A friend of mine who makes his living as a pro archer was communicating with one of those "outdoor shows" about doing a segment on an archery hunt here in Jersey. They wanted such an incredible amount of extremely specific data on the available facilities and the deer ... that it's hard for me personally to believe that "Jimmy" and his entire staff didn't know EXACTLY what was going on six months before they got there.

I can't tell you how many people I know here up north who have sinus problems in the winter ... whole families. When I ask them if they have a humidifier in their home or the heating system ... I get a blank stare. (means no) ANYONE I know who thereafter added moisture to their home in winter ... had their "problems" go away.

Kreighoff used to make great shotguns if you would prefer German craftsmanship over the Italian Perazzi. Both top of the food chain clay bird guns. As one guy said though ... an excellent fitting Remington 1100 will out shoot a poor fitting Kreighoff or Perazzi. [ 02-21-2006, 05:18 PM: Message edited by: Butch-M ]

Thanks ... 90% of the deer I've taken have been out of stands. I've only shot one "really" running deer; having always had the opportunity to wait for that split second stop they always seem to make. I took the runner at 108 yards; amazingly had to lead him about 4 feet or so. Felt weird having the crosshairs on the ground with the deer just in the picture to the right in the scope! As I said above in the "buckshot" post, I may be having to take runners this week with slugs out of my Benelli. Looking for anything that might get me thinking the right game. LOL My buddy is thinking of getting an H&R single shot slug gun ... and I'm considering a slug barrel for my T/C Encore muzzleloader ... how do you like those 20ga slugs. Do you find them any more accurate than the 12's? The smaller sabot & projectile would "seem" to lend itself to less rattling around than the 12ga in that 3/4" barrel.

420w: What gun and what caliber were you using when you were stalking that buck? Open sights or optics? What types of shots was he giving you each time you jumped him???

A missing $7.00 government "tax" stamp on top of the other 3 tax "stamps" you need in Texas. Quite a crime against wildlife. A moral & ethical blasphemy. (In Jersey ... being a more "progressive" {read less free} state ... you need to feed OUR government about 6 tax documents.) I know it's a little off the point, but instead of charging $125.00 for a non-resident license and 7.00 for this stamp, and 12 dollars for that stamp and your sandhill crane stamp is free ... but you have to remember to ASK for it ... why not charge $150.00 and stop all the mass confusion???? When I was there, about ten guys were buying licenses and even the 2 clerks selling them were befuddled.

Whether you like Cheney or dislike the guy, like Tucker said ... things happen. Many small mistakes, added to extenuating factors, can lead to an accident. Sure, it could have been prevented; there's always an explanation after the fact. But as the saying goes "Even good drivers can make a bad mistake." I've spent a ton of time hunting in the swamps, fields and woods; since I was six years old. One time; about 20 years ago ... in thousands and thousands of hours of hunting ... we had a "line" of four guys grouse hunting through varying NY state terrain and vegetation. It's not the Great Plains ... hunters are constantly passing in and out of view briefly. Somehow, my buddy on my right managed to get out front, and the trees, brush, blow downs, lay of the land and his own sense of speed & direction must have conspired to funnel him around ALMOST in front of us as a bird flushed. Fortunately the bird was a high flier, but there were some VERY shaken hunters when John started hollering ... nearly in the line of fire. It's a frightening experience ... perhaps more for the shooters than the guy almost getting hit.

"Crooked" and "Politician" ... that's redundant isn't it??? LOL

I'm not a pistol guy, but have been meaning to buy a 1911 @ .45 for about 20 years. One thing I found out last time I was entertaining the thought again is ... they all FEEL ... VERY different. I was very surprised when the guy in the gun shop was letting me handle them. They're all based on the Colt, all look like the Colt, but one felt great and another uncomfortable. The point being ... try some on for size before you do too much research and preconceived choosing. It may turn out the brand/model you like on paper doesn't fit in real life. If I recall correctly, the above mentioned Kimbers felt pretty good to me.

Latest I've read is Whittington is in pretty good shape, which is good for everyone, gunowners, hunters, Cheney & most of all of course Whittington. As you've probably figured out ... the media is a pet peeve of mine. LOL ================================= Whittington was reported doing well at a Texas hospital Wednesday, a day after doctors said that a pellet entered his heart and he had what they called "a mild heart attack." Hospital officials said the Texan, though still listed in intensive care, had a normal heart rhythm again Wednesday afternoon and was sitting up in a chair, eating and planning to do some legal work in his room. "He still kind of wonders what all the hoopla is about," said Peter Banko, administrator of Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial. =================================

Kind of ironic, the media doesn't seem to give a hoot about whether the guy lives or dies, nor how Cheney must feel about the whole thing ... they're howling about them being left out of the loop after it happened. Like there is some law that the press has to be informed within 37 seconds of anything that they can use to "sell newspapers" or something. (it's about revenues) Near as I can figure; their panties are in a bunch because the Texas local rural types were informed before the privileged east coast media "Elitists." It's hard to honestly know how Mr. Whittington is really doing because most of what we're hearing has a hysteria surrounding it. Sounds to me like the guy was pretty close to the shooter for birdshot to penetrate close to the heart. I listened to one doctor who didn't sound like he was a stooge for MsNBC and bottom line was that he couldn't really tell how serious Whittington's situation is by the information available. Could be very serious, or could be fairly safe. ================================= A Texas Parks and Wildlife Department report issued Monday said Whittington was retrieving a downed bird and stepped out of the hunting line he was sharing with Cheney. "Another covey was flushed and Cheney swung on a bird and fired, striking Whittington in the face, neck and chest at approximately 30 yards," the report said. Cheney was using No. 7 1/2 shot from a 28-gauge shotgun. Shotgun pellets typically are made of steel or lead; the pellets in No. 7 1/2 shot are just under one-tenth of an inch in diameter. Hospital officials at Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial said they were not concerned about the six to 200 other pieces of birdshot that might still be lodged in Whittington's body. The pellet that traveled to his heart was either touching or embedded in the heart muscle near the top chambers, called the atria, officials said. It caused inflammation that pushed on the heart in a way that temporarily blocked blood flow, what the doctors called a "silent heart attack." This is not a traditional heart attack where an artery is blocked, and doctors said Whittington's arteries were healthy. It also irritated the atria and caused an irregular heartbeat. Well, I watched some broadcast TV yesterday and this morning for the first time this week. I had only read about the Cheney deal on the Internet before. I can not believe the frenzy the media is trying to fabricate over an uncomplicated hunting accident!!! Every channel ... hammering away. Like there is some massive conspiracy perpetrated against the American people unfolding. The indignation!!! I think it's so ludicrous ... truly over the top ... that the "press" is looking asinine.
-
The liberal media at work again. When you see how they twist something we ARE knowledgable about to meet their agenda ... makes me disbelieve ANYTHING I read or hear coming from the media. Think of all the subjects we know little or nothing about that they "report" on!!! The things we hear and read and begin to form an opinion on; if only because we HEAR about it ... not that we're even interested in it. I say to myself "If they lie and twist and ommit about guns & hunting because they're really ADVOCATES and not REPORTERS, can I believe a word about immigration? the Patriot Act? Clinton? Bush? Samuel Alito? the Police? the local Dog Catcher's trial? ... ANYTHING???"

#1. Don't worry about hurting the barrel. Any choke up to modified is ideal. #2. Buy "Foster" type slugs because they are designed for a smoothbore barrel. Note that foster type slugs flatten and expand rapidly. #3. Personally, I would recommend a Brenneke slug because they are loaded in Germany and not designed to expand on impact the way most full bore slugs are. Most slugs are built for thin skinned game like deer. Brennekes are not designed to expand, they have no hollow core. They kill by weight, diameter, and penetration ... which is what you want against a tough 400lb boar. #4. My next choice would be the Federal TruBall slug, which has a round polymer ball inserted in the cone to keep it's shape during the explosion and I believe it travels with the lead slug all the way. #5. PRACTICE with the slug of choice and stick with it. Keep in mind "slugs" out of a shotgun kick like a mule. A 12ga, 1-1/4oz slug (545grains) traveling at 1500fps out of a 7lb gun produces approximately 50ft/lbs of recoil. For comparison ... A .375 H&H Magnum produces 40ft/lbs, a .458 Winchester Magnum produces 51 ft/lbs. Have fun ... and welcome to Benelli.

A man went to a brain store to get some brain to complete a study. He sees a sign remarking on the quality of professional brain offerred at this particular brain store. He begins to question the butcher about the cost of these brains. "How much does it cost for engineer brain?" "Three dollars an ounce." "How much does it cost for programmer brain?" "Four dollars an ounce." "How much for lawyer brain?" "$1,000 an ounce." "Why is lawyer brain so much more?" "Do you know how many lawyers we had to kill to get one ounce of brain?" ================================= How do you get a lawyer out of a tree? Cut the rope.

That IS pretty funny Volatile. Shall we address the ripe potential of the victim being a LAWYER??? LOL

1900-2000fps Remington Copper Solids, or Ultra Coreloks ... or Winchester Partition Golds. Make the sign of the Cross ... empty the gun ... run. Get behind the guy with the .470 Nitro Express double rifle; pray that he can shoot straight.
