This is like a week old, it's not going to go anywhere or there will be a massive poopstorm. I predict this will end the same way the "omg all lake city brass must now be destroyed" episode ended ... in humilation and loss of face for the demoncats, which is perfectly ok in my book. This is not to say that we should not stay vigilant ... it is just saying that this particular issue is so absurd that even non weapon users are saying WTF.
  3. Inquiring minds want to know!~
  4. For ... what gun? Newb. I assume you mean an m4 ...
  5. hmmm, ambitious, I am curious to see moar, and your impression of the final product
  6. oh noes, mah combat shotgun has teh scratches!
  7. As a former owner of an L5 lumamax, allow me to assure you that there are MUCH better lights available for the money.
  8. I would buy for $1200
  9. If you do, I will take that overpowered, useless m60 for the staggeringly high price of $35 shipped
  10. Do you also use a 20 gauge because it is more controllable? I guess I just don't understand your mentality ... the idea, as I see it, is to make yourself and your weapon MORE effective, not to intentionally gimp yourself by using sub optimal rounds for the intended purpose ... which is to destroy the threat. ****, may as well use rubber birdshot, that probably won't even break the guys skin, let alone your daughters wall.
  11. This post requires sauce, in the form of pics.
  12. I wouldn't want to bother Kip for something small like this. I'm sure he is busy and I want him working hard on the rail and other goodies. That said, I plan on using a Falcon Industries rail, as it comes with attachment hardware and that's what Deasmuth used on his with good results ... and I'm modeling my project after his. Here is a link to his thread ... http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8955&highlight=m4+light The rail is availble for like $25 from Delton, in both aluminum and polymer ... I'm going with aluminum of course. http://www.del-ton.com/Falcon_Industries_Rail_p/mt1011.htm The to be used will almost surely be a Malkoff M60 235 lumen lamp inside a 6P, probably in a LaRue offset mount if I feel like going all out. That is the current light setup on my LMT and I love it, bad ass light setup. The setup in full runs around $200 for everything, but for that price you really have gotten the best of everything ... I could get a scout light or X300 for around that, but I prefer the more spilly beam of the m60 to that of the surefire head (I have an E2DL as my EDC light, same lamp, extremely good light, it's just a bit too spotty for me to pick it out of all my options). That said, this project is all still in the planning phase, and some things may change. For instance, I don't reallllly need a $90 mount for my light ... but I see no reason to start compromising now, especially when this will likely be a weapon I keep for a very long time. I will obviously keep my progress posted.
  13. I did the same thing. But I swear it wasn't my fault! Their system emptied my cart when I logged in, and I forgot to change the quantity back to "2"! By the time I realized when they arrived, they were out of stock ... but it has now been remedied.
  14. I am told that they do not do much.
  15. Most definitely on the support hand side, but I doubt I will be able to find a seller for one if I can't even find a seller for a pair ... ETA - Well I feel stupid. Brownells sells them individually. Know how I know it's 6 AM? :\
  16. Nobody has any for $30? bummer.
  17. I'm not saying that you can't train to eliminate short strokes. I'm sure you can ... with lots of repetition and trigger time. I am saying that your average home defender is different from a combat marine with thousands of hours of trigger time. "Normal" people short stroke pump shotguns all the time, even when they are just casually shooting. I've seen it dozens of times. It is 100% their fault, not the guns ... but that is the way things are. You can't expect that every shooter is going to be shoot like a professional, as such, the argument that one can "simply train like heck to avoid short strokes" is valid, but only to an extent, because the reality is that most people will not do this. As such, I retain my argument that for MOST PEOPLE, they will be much more likely to short stoke a pump than randomly jam an m4 ... why? Because semis are inherently easier to shoot than manual reloading platforms. Both are viable platforms, but one is easier in that it eliminates a potentially problematic step.
  18. What is better about the 590A1?
  19. I'd argue that you are much more likely to short stroke a pump under stress than you are to inadvertently jam an m4.
  20. I absolutely agree, but that is not what I meant. By litigation, I meant fear of shot overpenetration, hitting innocents, etc, NOT that you would somehow be better off legally if you had an injured person suing you and claiming complete innocence.
  21. It's a bit of a complex answer. If you can hit the intruder (and not the innocents in the area), tighter patterns are almost always going to be better. More pellets hit the target in a denser area and you can literally blow holes through people. That said, some people come from the "under stress I am going to freeze and be useless and as such I need a choke that will essentially spray shot in a 45 degree cone" mentality. I do not subscribe to this. Some people also are not interested in killing intruders, mind you. This is your "use #4 shot or smaller" crowd. They place litigation avoidance above personal survival on the priority list ... in my opinion. So the answer to your question depends very much on how you envision your shoot/HD going, and I guess the layout of your house. Do you have a long hallway leading to your bedroom, where you can barricade yourself if needed and shoot 15 yards down a hallway to hit someone? Or are you going to be packed into a room at extremely close quarters? The real answer to your question is "whatever choke allows YOU to get the maximum amount of shot on target". If you have a super tight shot pattern but are not comfortable with your shotgun or you are not very good at shooting, that super tight shot pattern will not help you if they all miss the target. At the same time, if you ARE a good shot and use a loose choke, 9 pellets on target at 10 yards would have been better than the 1 or 2 pellets on target if you got with the loose choke. It is not always such an extreme difference, this is just an example. Me, personally, I'm an "aim and hit your target" guy, as opposed to a "spray in the general direction with a loose choke and hope something hits" type of guy. I like having the option to aim and deliver "surgical" hits with my m4 ... if it really comes down to it and I am unable to aim with my tight choke, I will just lay down a wall of lead anyways ... that's what 9 shots is for. Mod is a good middle of the road choke. It lets you shoot buckshot with a reasonably tight pattern (sometimes very tight) and it also lets you shoot slugs without much or any deformation of the slug. I use a mod choke, if only for this reason. A bayonet is almost never advisable. Hope this helps. For what it's worth, my main defensive tool is the glock and surefire next to my bed ...
  22. Cool stuff.
  23. LaRue rails do not fare well with out of spec mounts. My picture that you see above is what happens. LaRue makes the best mounts in the industry, however by design they require a properly made rail to mate with ... and apparently that is just too much to ask for these days, as hardly anybody seems to bother doing it. That said, I have a T1 but have not used it much yet, it is awesome however the one thing I notice is that if the brightness is turned up I can see the dots reflection in the sides of the optic ... It is worse when shooting in dark conditions, I don't know yet if it will be an issue. Other than that, it seems like a badass sight.
  24. First, saved for comment in morning. ETA - Honestly, if the rails were 1913 spec I would probably buy one.
  25. Meh, I was hoping someone had an extra set for like $30, so that I could keep the money "in the family", as well as get a cheaper price. I guess I'll look at the ebay deal. PS - I have the same discount at brownells but thank you.
