  1. That page looks to be LE only.
  2. As long as the price is reasonable (I consider Joe's US made tubes a reasonable price, as an example) I'd be in for a set, maybe two.
  3. If I'm not mistaken (and I may be, since I'm still asleep) the M4 uses a snap ring type device to keep the spring in the tube once the limiter/end cap are removed. Go buy a set of snap ring pliers if you don't have them. Craftsman makes some cheapish ones that work on both internal and external snap rings, go pick up a pair. You'll need them to adjust the forward sling loop ring anyway, unless you want to scratch up your gun.
  4. Wow. Looks like you're in good company, Sonyman. Lot of names I recognize over on those boards. Congrats.
  5. You know, I suspect that Zumbo will be writing for magazines again in the near future, but this time it won't be as much about hunting. This might actually turn out to be a good thing for us ebil black gun-o'-doom lovers.
  6. Actually, if we all carried guns, we would still need the police. One of the things most often misunderstood by the anti-gun crowd is that they police won't be able to protect them more often than not. It isn't really their responsibility, either. Each person is responsible for their own safety (as well as the safety of their loved ones, to an extent). The police are responsible for the safety of the community. Every citizen being armed doesn't change that, though it would make for less violent crime, as pretty much every situation where this has been tested in real life has shown (much to the chagrin of the Brady Bunch, no doubt). These overlap to an extent, in that the police are obligated to remove criminals that may prove harmful to members of the community. However, simple math will tell you that the likelyhood of police responding in time to stop somebody from doing you harm is very low, simply due to the fact that A) it doesn't take long to hurt/kill someone, and B) There are a finite number of police to respond. They do their job by taking criminals off of the street, thus protecting the community, but often as not it is after they have already done some damage. And just for fun, here's a link to my new favorite vid on gun control: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2312508445846864220&q=gun+controll Now, let the thread-hijack-crucifiction begin!
  7. Wow. That is the most useless survey ever. Talk about bias... It kind of reminds me of an episode of Family Guy where Brian is on trial. Lawyer: Which of the following two phrases best describes Brian Griffin? "Problem drinker" or "African-American haberdasher"? Peter: I guess "problem drinker." But that's...(interrupted) Lawyer: Thank you. "Sexual deviant" or "magic picture that you stare at till you see something"? Peter: "Sexual deviant," but that other one's... (interrupted again). With as much bias as they're showing there, they may as well have just given you three options, "Agree", "Strongly Agree", and "Let's Ban Them All Right Now". Absolutely absurd.
  8. I take it that the words 'shot placement' don't mean much to you. Here's a hint: It's what stops bad guys cold.
  9. The ones "we" elected. You know, I think the founding fathers of the USA were pretty good guys, and they seemed to have their heads on straight...but when they wrote the constitution and the initial ammendments, they screwed up big time by assuming that they would be interpreted in the spirit in which they were written. The result is this mess, where your right to bear arms is in heated debate. Looking at quotes from a lot of the fine gentlemen that established the US of A, it's pretty clear that they didn't see any issue with the average Joe being armed as well as the average soldier, because the average citizen was expected to stand up and _be_ a soldier (militia member) in the defense of the country if it was seriously attacked. Granted, I doubt they had any clue what lay ahead as far as weapons technology goes, but that's a different matter. The wording of the original documents is so broad that today's legalese-speaking crowd could drive a bus through them, and as a result we're seeing almost complete reversals when compared to the original 'spirit' of the documents.
  10. Given that Zumbo backpedalled quickly, and seemed at least somewhat earnest about it, I think cutting him loose was a bad idea. Yeah, he stuck his foot in his mouth -- big time -- and the Brady Bunch is going to capitalize on that. There's not much to be done other than what has been done, and the Bradys will continue to skew things (see the Brady myspace page shortly after this all went down? They almost totally glossed over his retraction). Firing Zumbo seems like overkill. Rem should've kept him on, we've flamed him enough already. Introduce him to semis and go from there. Frankly, I think if they parked a nice M1A with a nice wood stock in his hands, he'd get more open minded pretty quick...
  11. MrMP Personally, I'd say you should take another look at getting one of SOCOMGuy's tubes. I have two factory tubes + one he made, and the quality of his tube is much, much better. Save your factory tubes for suckers on Ebay who absolutely have to have factory stuff -- even if it isn't the best available. Also, does anyone else think the new 11717 looks kinda silly? I'd have been all over it if Benelli hadn't left the mag tube & pistol grip black.
  12. Yes? No? Maybe? The answer is to call benelli CS (Don't email, they can be unreliable). They'll ask you for the serial number, then send you an unspecified quantity of choke tubes. The most common seems to be 2 extra. Usually IC & C. You may get lucky and get more. You should have a Modified choke tube already. If you don't...well, you may have a fun time getting one from Benelli.
  13. Not really seeing the issue here. It's not like Mesa's shell holders require that you break the current rail. Just remove it and save it, install Mesa's shell holder, and rest easy in the fact that you've got the best one out there on your shotgun. You can always remove it and reinstall the factory rail if you wish.
  14. Sexy. I imagine we'd have several photos of more tricked-out versions if members here could find a source for the shortie barrel.

    M1014 Price

Now I'm no authoritative source, but I'm pretty sure any model will give you what you need. AFAIK, there aren't any difference in barrels beyond the ability of some to accept chokes, and others being fixed modified barrels. Well, there are also some differences with old models and the way the barrel tapers near the receiver, IIRC, but that shouldn't do anything outside of cause problems for accessory manufacturers. You may need to do your homework there, judging by the list of accessories you've got. The "heavy barrel" thing was disproven by a few board members with calipers, I believe. As far as I know, all models should accept the Mesa Tactical 8-shot shell holder. Ditto for the skeleton/collapsable stock -- you just won't be able to collapse it on anything but 11707's unless you have special work done on it.
  16. Given the fact that a camera was at hand instead of a shotgun, I'm thinking Lib is right.
  17. So what are the differences between the military model and the 11707? The only things I can think off offhand are: 11707 has a smaller mag tube by default (though full-length tubes are available) 11707 accepts choke tubes, military M1014 has a fixed modified barrel. Anybody care to whip up a detailed list of any other differences?

    New M4 range report

That's why you should buy one of SOCOMguy's Made In The USA mag tubes. Full length, allows for a total of 9 2 3/4 shells. 7 in the magazine tube, 1 on the carrier, and one in the chamber. Very much worth the money. Looks damned good, too.
  19. Absolutely nothing. Changing stocks (like field stripping the m4) requires no tools at all. I'd suggest having some cloth handy, or really anything to put between the pin holding the trigger group in place and whatever it is you are using to push it out (the manual suggests the bolt handle, which is what I normally use, since it is handy). Otherwise, one slip-up and you've chipped/scratched the finish on your receiver. Procedure is as follows: 1) Unscrew and remove ratcheting cap at end of mag tube. 2) Remove barrel assembly from the receiver. 3) Remove bolt handle from bolt assembly. 4) Remove bolt assembly from receiver. 5) Push/pull trigger group retaining pin out to allow you to remove the trigger group. It doesn't come all the way out normally, so don't bother with trying to pull it entirely free. 6) Remove trigger group, it will come out most easily if you depress the bolt release to ease the tension. Same goes for reinstalling it. 7) Unscrew the stock, which simply screws onto the recoil tube. I do mean the entire stock. No tools are required, just grab the stock and twist. DO NOT remove the recoil pad. 8) Screw on the pistol grip section of the new stock, since it is in two parts. 9) Depress the button on the shoulder section of your new stock, tilt it a bit counterclockwise and slide it onto the recoil tube. It will line up with one of the lower marks, and you'll be able to rotate it to the same angle on the clockwise side (between 1 and 2 o'clock, I believe). Adjusting it is a matter of depressing the button, rotating it clockwise to the same position, and sliding it to one of the locking points. Repeat steps 6 through 1 in reverse order to reassemble the shotgun, then move on to step 10. 10) Purchase 12ga ammunition of your choice. 11) Go to range, or your normal shooting area. 12) Shoot stuff. Break-in for the m4 is pretty simple. I'd suggest a good cleaning and inspection, followed by a case or so of heavier loads (or 3" magnums, which you will probably need less of) to break the action in to the point where you can shoot lighter stuff without any problems.

    M4

Yep. Sure can, but you'll need a m4 model 11707 (or some milling word done) to really use it.
  21. GV00

    M4

Yeah, other than very low recoil rounds, most stuff should cycle reliably in an m4 (after the initial break-in, that is). Breaking it in shouldn't be an issue, as you should really go to the range a few times and run a few hundred shells through it to familiarize yourself with it anyway. For home defense, I hear #1 buckshot is the way to go. 00 can overpenetrate, which could be a problem if you have other people in other rooms to worry about. Hey, it's a semi-auto, though, so you can always load the magazine tube up with a mix to suit your needs. It's not like you can't get to the big stuff quick if you REALLY need to.
  22. I've heard that Hoppes Elite is re-branded MPro-7 (which is what I use). Good stuff. Non-toxic, won't stink up the house. IIRC, both Breakfree and MPro-7 meet the same military specs, so either should work just as well. As I understand it, CLP is an all-in-one product originally designed for the military. What soldier wants to carry around 2-3 bottles of stuff when one will do the job just fine? Regardless, I believe that there are specific cleaners that will do a better job than most CLP's, but it takes extra work. I generally clean my guns with dedicated cleaners, but keep a smallish bottle of CLP handy any time I'm out in the field for on-the-spot stuff.

    New owner question

I'm thinking you may be off there, HDRDKG. My bet is: PG = Pistol Grip STD = Standard LE = Law Enforcement Coll = Collapsable stock REC = I don't know. I'm thinking LE because, well, my receiver is marked LE, and the only Limited Editions I can think of are the flag-branded M1014's. COLL = collapsable stock makes sense, since the other stock types are listed...and it looks like it may just be wrapped around on the end of the box (notice that COLL is followed on the next line by APSE). At any rate, Icer, I'd just go off of the model number. 11707's seem to be the most desirable, since they've got a recoil tube with notches milled in already, which will allow the full operation of a collapsable stock.

    Nice One Benelli

You know, Woodcock, after seeing the "factory" tubes for the m4 and comparing them to the one I've got on there, I'm thinking maybe you're right. The finish on this thing seems remarkably easy to bang up. Either the black matte finish isn't worth squat, or it tends to be very ablative but somehow keeps enough on the metal to keep it protected. I don't know, I haven't let mine start to rust yet, or even banged it around much, so I don't know how tough it actually is. One would think that since it's military grade, it'd be very resistant...but I dunno.

    Nice One Benelli

I think CS forgot about me. Sent them a few emails about getting choke tubes for my m4, and they said they'd send them out. That was over a month ago, nothing yet. I'm thinking I may send my m4 in for them to look at, anyway. Finish seems to be pretty thin -- very easily scratched/chipped, and the rear sight housing has discolored areas. There's that, and what looks like some chipped spots out of the barrel itself.
