  1. Go with a beretta with the kick off system. That should do it for you.
  2. I don't do it. But would like to, just never got around to it. I saw very few wooducks this fall but we were fishing at the river today and I saw dozens of pairs flying around. Watched a female swim around feeding. Definately worth it, I hope to get to it next year. I also noticed a lot of goose nest down there, they have some HUGE eggs.
  3. Thats a really good price for a super sport. But you could probably find on cheaper on gunbroker.com
  4. I got a pigeon today, he absolutely loved retrieving it got 6 perfect retrieves and stopped. Maybe some wings on a bumper......
  5. I saw it happen, copper plated round, actually bounced off the deer. You must use some powerful rounds in your gun. The 40, considerable more power then a 9mm. Perhaps we just had a bad batch? Or you use hollow points or something. And do you know why the cops know use a 40 instead of the old 9mm? Because the 9 wouldn't do the job, it didn't put the people on the ground. The 40 had enough punch without the kick of the 45. And did I say the 22 won't kill you? No, I mentioned that it takes a head or chest shot to kill a rabbit, believe me, I've shot thousands with my 22 pistol. 2 cops? Wow, how many people have a 22, and have used them in crime? Most popular round there is. "to me" a 22 handgun isn't very frightning. Not any handgun is really, now an AK-47 or M-16, then I'll be a bit more frightened. Noone knows what I would do, I don't know what you would do. So unless I'm involved in a gunfight we'll never know will we?
  6. Sweet, nice dogs. Tank isn't quite that far, but I'm gonna get some pigeons and see if the bird feel gets him more excited then the bumper. He'll retrieve it a few times but then he'll start playing keep away with it. Thats when I stop the session. He doesn't want to go into the water to retrieve the bumper, but it is really cold here so I can understand. I'm gonna try introducing him to the water when it warms up. My russel has no problem retrieving from the water though. I'll show you a pic once I get it off the camera at work.
  7. Sorry for wanting to do something besides run and let my friends and teachers get shot, or to watch the man go down the line killing people, while I sit there and wait my turn. You can sit there and wait for him to shoot you, hoping he won't, or you can try and do something about it. I'll gladly take the fire, as long as noone else is hurt. I'm not afraid of dying, I know exactly where I am going.
  8. Yeah, if it hits you, it'll bounce around and mess you up good, any bullet is going to do that. Yet it probably wouldn't go through a table, or a door. Any bullet is going to go through you, and hurt/kill you, if you let it hit you. So you can run, or make some kind of effort to stop the guy instead of let him kill your friends and teachers while they do the same and let themselves get shot. I have a 22, I know what it will do, it won't kill a friggen rabbit unless you hit him in the head or chest. Pick up a desk and run at him. Don't sit there and let you and your friends get shot. Run, do whatever you want. I don't really care anymore, whats done is done. I just hope if something like this happens in the future, people will do something about it instead of let it happen.
  9. Ahh, so a 22 and a 9mm, the 22 would not have made much of a difference to me, but thats, "to me."
  10. My uncle had a dog that he recently gave to a farmer, he waited to do training until that dog was 9 months old before training. You know what happened? That dog owned him, he was big, powerful, and the only way my uncle could get him to listen just a little bit, is he used one of the choke chains with the points that dig into the neck when you tug on it. He was never able to train that dog, so he gave it to a farmer who just wanted a dog to have in the back of the truck. (see it all the time here) Tanks as I have mentioned is doing great, really picking up what I am teaching him, and I personally think the earlier the better. They aren't human kids, they are dogs. Wolves don't learn to hunt at a year old do they? They learn that pretty quick. I've noticed it is only hunting dogs they suggest to wait on training, all the ones for house dogs start right away, and that is how we have always done it. I'm doing that with tank, he's figured out how to sit, heel, partly stay, kennel, and come. Maybe I'm just lucky.
  11. Where did you get this information, I have yet to see anything where it mentions anything about a second gun. He bought a glock at a firearms store, got a bunch of ammo and shot up a school. And half a second to throw drop a clip and throw a nother one in? You do watch too much TV. I only know a few proffessional shooters that can do that. I can't throw one in that fast, but granted most of the students didn't know a thing about guns, so I see why they ran. I personally, know how guns work. My dad shot a deer with a 9mm at 10-15 yards, a FMJ, you know what happened? It bounced off, maybe bruised the deer a bit, but it bounced off. I'll tell you what I would do if someone put a handgun in my face, I would grab it a friggen kill the guy, or at least try. If I heard shooting, I would come up with a plan real quick. This is stuff I would do, and believe it or not, I am prepared for this kind of stuff, I know what kind of world we live in. I see things like this on the news and stuff, I'm always waiting for something like this to happen. So, they didn't know about guns, they didn't know how to react in this kind of situation, I just figured someone would have done something, especially a school of "strapping young lads." I'll let this post go now, as it will just continue with further argument.
  12. Thats cool. Shawn from Retriever Fever suggests I start obedience and hunting training no earlier then 6 months. But in just a few weeks he has heel, sit, and come down. He also knows leave it, but not reliabley yet.
  13. Tuck, once again, I'm homeschooled, and live 20 miles from the nearest town. I live on a 1,200 acre ranch and have access to over 12,000 acres. I work a lot, do my homeschooling, hunt, fish and spend time with my dogs. Not much else to do sometimes but to talk to old geezers on these forums. I have been around guns my whole life, I know how they work, I know what to do when a gun is pointing at me. Especially when he was reloading, I would know exactly what to do there, take him down! You're right, many of them froze, many ran, many couldn't do anything, but there were also many that could have that didn't. There was one young guy that they said fought back, he was the first shot I believe. But I think the media is hyping that up a little more than it is. Maybe not, just my opinion.
  14. Perhaps you are right tucker, but you would think some kind of instinct would take over, instead of watching other people get killed methodicly, and you are waiting your turn to get shot or hiding behind a door watching. How many people are in that school? Only one stood up to him? But honestly, one guy with a 9mm pistol, hundreds of people around, no one tried to stop him. Makes a lot of sense. Many people had a chance to do something, the people shot didn't really, but I would have tried something if someone was getting ready to end my life if I didn't. Other people had a good 2 hours to try something, heck, all it would take is 2 minutes to come up with a plan. Throw a chair at him, run at him with a desk, do something, don't wait your turn to die. It isn't his right to take your life, don't let him. My thoughts on the subject, thats all Tuck.
  15. Most likely has to do with television. They have been desensitized by it, they think that little pistol has the power of a howitser, and that it will go through doors, furniture, desks, and still have the power to kill you. He was killing them with out even thinking and they just sat there and let it happen. The second I saw him go to reload I would have jumped on him and beat him to death, but I also know how a gun works. I wonder how many in the school didn't?
  16. My prayers go out to the families that it happened to. It was a horrible thing that happened. But I do wonder, why did no one fight back? He had ONE 9 mm handgun, if the people in the school would have fought back many lives would have been saved. I'm sorry if this post was offensive to anyone, this is just my thought on the matter.
  17. Sweet! I want one, imagine how many geese you could drop in one flock? Just kidding. But that is really cool.
  18. Heck Yeah!!! I'm really looking forward to it. Already planning on guns, more decoys, ammo, setup locations, and been looking through cabelas religiously. Yep, I'm ready. Speaking of Turkey, saw a dozen just an hour ago, no Toms that I saw. I'm setting up there in the morning to see if a big gobbler will come out.
  19. I spend all day with him, and he sleeps with me at night, we are bonding quite well, he listens to me very well, doesn't really listen to anyone else, which I like a lot. He has been retrieving for the last few days just fine, brings it all the way back to me and leaves it on command. I got him neutered and dew claws removed the other day and that seemed to mess him up a little, today he didn't want to bring it to me, or leave it, but after his paws heal we will get back on it. I'm using Retriever fever series of dvd but I'm doing things a little different, its just a guide line. He is a quick learner, yet a stubborn dog, its like he learns like a weimaraner but refuses to obey like a lab. Its kinda funny.
  20. I work him in the morning, in the evening. I'm starting to make his sessions a little longer. I fully intend on using him this fall, so I'll be doing a lot of training this summer.
  21. Its interesting to see how much spam this forum gets, yet not one of the other ones I visit gets any.
  22. What do you think of training puppies? I got the Retriever Fever series of training videos which are really good, but he suggests not training your dog AT ALL until they are at least 6 months old. No basic obedience, just play fetch with them crate train them and potty train them and take them for walks, let them explore. I personally don't agree with that, and since Tank is doing so well at 12 weeks, I'm going to stick with what I'm doing.
  23. He is much much bigger than any lab of the same age, 12 weeks. I almost wonder if the food I'm giving him is loaded with steroids. Hopefully the weimaraner in him will kick in and he'll be a good sized, lean dog with big paws. That would be great!
  24. Give you an idea of how huge his paws are. And here he is all comfy in a mail crate, I didn't put him in it. The little one climbed in as well.
