  1. That was a joke Sdk, I wasn't able to put a smiley next to that. I got bashed a bit for using my 17 on two jakes a few months ago, thats why I mentioned that. If you want the post that I got bashed a bit on, I'll pm it to you. But as I have stated several times, I thought the bird was closer, and even though he wasn't, the pattern can do it. I get great patterns at 60, 80 was a bit to far, but the bird is dead, and I won't do it again, 4 T shots in a 10 inch circle at 80, 4 t shots in the bird I shot. Now we can hear the end of this. 69 beers, you really used a 660 for DC? Seems like to much constriction for that large of shot, and its harder then lead.
  2. Anybody use these as hunting guns? Ducks, geese, turkey, pheasant? Other then the sights, I think the M4 would rule for that. Where is the bolt handle? I didn't see it in any of the pictures.
  3. He died pretty quickly, faster then 90% of deer that get shot and he died faster then most turkeys that get arrowed, with the exception of the people that use the good ol' guillotine arrow. It doesn't bother me that I was getting hammered, never bothered me. I like a good argument. And I too hate when animals suffer, but the animal died with in 5 seconds, it was pretty quick. I wouldn't mind dying from a buck shot to the chest, espescially if it took 5 seconds or less. I wouldn't like an arrow, unless it was the guillotine. I like you mud, don't mind fat jokes either, giving or recieving end. But you tend to worship the bird you kill a little more then I do. I try and make a clean kill on everything I shoot, in this case, it was clean kill, he didn't run off and die in the woods, didn't run 100 yards then died, he got shot, jumped around a little then fell over dead. True he didn't die where he stood like the birds you shoot, but I'll get into that later, when I can call and use decoys the right way. Heres the mount from the turkey, doesn't look that great, looked way better when I started. After three days of salting it, boraxing it, moving it around the tail feathers are a little messed up.
  4. I'm pretty sure we used Winchester Super X #2 and #3's. It was a couple years ago, I'll ask my brother when he gets home. He should know. I think if you used hevi shot or winchester extended range in a 20, you could push that range to 40-45.
  5. Only reason I'm having second thoughts on the beretta is because of a point that Mudhen pointed out to me. Their bolt rails are a lot thinner then most shotguns, and since I shoot 3-1/2" shells A LOT I worry about them breaking. Mudhen has seen a few broken ones, other then that, I like everything about the beretta.
  6. You did not see the post on the other forum. I got hammered by mud and several others. All for using bigger shot size. The best part is though, if their Winchester extended range's could hit a turkey at 80 yards, you bet your butt they would shoot them at that distance. I used bigger shot and shot one in the body at a greater distance, that is what I was going for, I wasn't trying to hit him in the head. It killed the turkey just fine, and he ate good too! There was nothing unethical about what I did, and I honestly thought the bird was closer, 60-70 maybe, which would have been several more pellets. I forgot the rangefinder because I was too exited to go out and get a turkey, otherwise I probably would not have taken an 80 yards shot. But 4 pellets in the chest is going to kill a bird, heck, one would do it, it didn't hurt the meat to bad either. Sdk, I used Hevi-shot dead coyote rounds, not a rifle. I think it is fall that allows rifles. Now if I was using my 17, could have taken him at 200 and under. Then I really would have been bashed. I'll get a turkey choke and "turkey" rounds this fall and do it your way, that should make you turkey worshipers happy. I don't worship the turkeys I hunt, I shoot them.
  7. These and dozens more were shot with 20 gauges, they can definately do it. If they are 35 yards and under I'm plenty comfortable with a 20, and pleasant to shoot. I have never been affected with recoil, shot my dads mossberg tactical 12 gauge when I was 10, it kicked a little hard for how small I was but I was never bothered by it. Prefering a 20 doesn't make you a girl.
  8. Well, from what I have read about the inertia system, is that even a slight bump will cause the bolt to be set back a tiny bit, causing a misfire. I was wondering how that doesn't happen all the time during a pheasant drive. And for Sdk, does yours do that too?
  9. Dang Tuck, you're a tough old coot aren't you? I know a bunch of older rich guys at the lodge I work for, they are always complaining about recoil, they always bring 20's and 28's for pheasant. They hate the 3-1/2" for geese. I'm about the same size as you, 5' - 9" Don't know how much you weigh but I weigh about 200-210 lbs. I too am not bothered by recoil.
  10. How many of you take your SBE II pheasant hunting? I was reading about "the dreaded click" from bumpint the butt of the gun while turkey hunting, and since you are crashing brush while pheasant hunting, I would expect that to happen a lot while you are brush crashing. And this is mainly for Sdkidaho, but if you bump the butt on the Beretta Xtrema 2, does the same thing happen as with the SBE II?
  11. Well, he's back to retrieving. He was really exited the other day, wanted to do something. So I took the tennis ball he was playing with and threw it, he was on it like a hawk. He loved it. I'm only doing 3-4 retrieves with it, making it fun for him. I'm not making him come to me, or making him leave it. When he drops it near me I just pick it up and throw it again. I haven't tried the dokken duck or the bumper. I'll stick with the tennis balls for now.
  12. Heres what a DC round and a factory full choke do out of my Nova at 80 yards. Wasted a $3.00 shell just for you. I leaned againsted a truck for this shot, so if it was bench rest perfect, probably could have been better, and thats not all the pattern. Thats 26 pellets out of a 54 pellet round. I didn't have a bigger piece of wood laying around. Thats 4 T shots in the kill zone, same amount that was in my bird. The pattern could be better, and I thought the bird was closer. That was my mistake, but the bird died quick and thats all that really matters. This was kind of a one time deal, I probably won't use this round again, or take a shot at that distance. I'll get a JH or a Rhino when I get my SBE II and do it proper. I'll learn to call this summer, just like I'm gonna do with ducks and geese. So you can quit fretting over this mud, I'm tired of arguing.
  13. I agree with tucker about getting him a pump. But if you get him an automatic, get him a beretta. I shot one last year, didn't kick me at all. He should be able to hold up to it.
  14. Thanks Krr, how old do turkeys get? I saw one last year and another this year that had huge beards. I would guess the beard on the one last year was at least 14" It looked at least twice the length through the binos, it was huge. The one I saw this year that I wasn't able to get a shot at had a really long one too, I would have guessed 12" I was amazed that the one I got was 9" he looked like he had a 5" beard in the scope.
  15. Maybe the Nitro 4x5x7s in #4 shot. I guess they go through 3/4 inch of plywood at 40 yards. I don't know if it would make it to the vitals of a turkey. The T shot dead coyote I used would, went clean through him.
  16. The SBE II is a goose/turkey/duck gun. It isn't made for shooting 2-3/4 inch shells. They claim that they will shoot them, and some do, but some don't. Like Tucker said, get a gas gun, or get one of the inertia ones designed for the lighter loads.
  17. I like the cordoba a lot, but the M2 is a lot cheaper and would be almost the same gun. The montefeltro is a good gun too, I'd get whatever you like best.
  18. Nope, that was from the wire I hung him up with.
  19. Cause I felt like it. Don't know what it is though.
  20. SBE II it is then. I shoot way to many 3-1/2" shells for that to be happening.
  21. Alright, the bird weighs 20 lbs. 9" beard, half inch spurs. And that dewhicky on his head is 4" long. Remeasured the distance, with the rangefinder this time, 81 yard shot, give or take a few yards.
  22. Cool, let me know how the Cordoba does when you get it. What issues are you having with Beretta? Just curious as I'm getting the extrema 2 soon. Check your PM,s Ignore the turkey one, but I've got a question for you.
