  1. Comp-n-choke claims their slots are for slowing the wad. Read that in Cabelas.
  2. No shot restrictions here, and it was shot into a hill, so no danger to anythnig else there. I'll probably use much smaller shot for the next bird, but the store only had some cheap turkey rounds, some hevi-shot #4 or #5 and I only had a full choke, so I would have to get within 30 yards or less, probably less. Season was running out. I knew what DC did, so I used them, I aimed high so I didn't just load him with pellets. Dead coyote T shot, 3-1/2" I couldn't believe the other one just sat there, I wish it was fall because I could have dropped him along side his buddy. I probably could have gotten closer, and used the smaller shot with the full, I'll get a JH before this fall, do some testing. Do you recommend the JH, or the Tight Wad? Not sure what to get. How do I mount the tail?
  3. Thought the gun was to loud for you mud..... and I thought you were going for the Xtrema 2, I was gonna go for the Cordoba, but like the Xtrema 2 much, much better. And Muds right, we need PICTURES! I wanna got down there sometime, I've heard way to much about the dove and duck shooting down there.
  4. Got this gobbler this morning. 60 yards with Hevi-shot dead coyote with a full choke. Not sure how many pellets I got in him, I'll clean him when I get home. He walked around for about 10 yards then just dropped. The most surprizing thing though was there was two, the smaller one had a slightly long beard, but he sat their fighting the dead one, completely ignored me. No lie, I got within 10 yards of the other one, and I was barking at him so he would move away, he challenged me by fluffing up in my direction, I stomped at him and he decided to leave, never seen a turkey do that. Our camera died about 2 minutes in, so we didn't get it on video, which seems to happen a lot on occasions like these. The shirt and clothes I am wearing were my camo, I saw him from the house just as we were going to work, he was about 400 yards from the house with a smaller tom and a hen. I sidehilled him as far as I could, got about 60 yards away, and I had no more cover, so I picked out the bigger one, and pulled the trigger. I will get an exact weight and spur length and beard length when I get home. His spurs are not that long, rounded and worn down it looks like. I saw a larger tom a few weeks ago, longer beard and possibly heavier, but I am very pleased with this bird, he has some great color on him too. The other one had more white, a redder head, and some more green but was a much smaller bird. This is the first actual tom I have shot, my first two were jakes. Now for some pictures. Now I know what you were talking about Mudhen, sorry for doubting you.
  5. As you will see with this picture, he doesn't want to follow the other dog, it was Tanks bumper, but trapper was the one who wanted it. Tank just barked at him until he came back with it, then Tank stole it from him. Thanks again guys.
  6. Never had a problem with recoil, I shoot everything from a 22 to a 10 gauge. Porting does nothing, my brother has a ported mossberg 835, kicks like a mule, and a lot more then my Nova. Its a heavier gun, its ported, has a bigger recoil pad on it, and its loud as ****. I wouldn't do it, so far all it does is make it louder.
  7. Same guns, same birds, same camo. Right on, great birds. If only I can get mine this year....
  8. I really hope so, and I will stop trying for 2 weeks, I would hate if I caused a problem. I spend just about every hour of the day with him, and he sleeps on my bed too. Sometimes I'll have to go somewhere without him so I leave him in his kennel for 1-3 hours, but that is the only time I'm not with him. He comes to work with me, town, home, all that good stuff. He still isn't taking to water to well. He doesn't like to get more then his feet wet. But when we go to the reservoir this summer, he'll probably have fun swimming with me. I'm not going to push him though. Thanks for the help guys.
  9. I know not to push him, I've been trying to keep it fun. I think I figured out the reason why he is scared of retrieving. While he was playing keep away, I threw a bumper towards him so he would drop the other one, it hit him and made him whine. Thats when he stopped the retrieving. I'm really hoping I didn't instill fear of the bumper, but it is anything I throw now, tennis balls, bumpers, wings. He will look at it, then run in the other direction. What exactly is playing with a hunting dog? I'm not supposed to play tug-of war with any toys, he isn't allowed to bite me which he does when we play around on the ground, I'm not sure exactly what playing is. This is my first hunting dog, so I don't know a whole lot. Playing with my other dogs is fetch, tug-of-war, stuff like that, so I'm not sure what to do. I take him to the river a lot and let him run around, he plays a lot with the other dogs, he's doing great in obedience too.
  10. Yeah, I know Sdk, but it was $22.99 for the little one, and $24.99 for one 3 times as big, plus he is growing so fast that he'll be plenty big in a month. Nice article though. I've got one question though, how does a dog go from retrieving like a champ, to being scared of retrieving in a few days? He was doing great for a few weeks, then he started getting worse, keep away, wouldn't leave it, wouldn't bring it back and just chew on it. And now, he will run in the other direction when I throw a dummy, what happened? The only thing he will go for is a smelly goose wing, but he won't bring it back. He will not retrieve at all with a check cord on either, if there is something on his collar, he won't do anykind of retrieving. Its been frustrating. Someone told me I might be pressuring him to much, but I work on basic obedience 5 minutes in the morning, 5 minutes at night, (he is doing great at that by the way) but I don't get it. And how do I put scent in the dummy? I've got a bottle of duck scent, do I just inject it with a needle?
  11. I got one for Tank today, he LOVED it, got 10 perfect retrieves. It's kinda big for him, but he was able to get his mouth around it the third try, and he left it on command. He hasn't been doing that for the last 2 weeks, mostly keep away. I was mighty pleased with the dokken duck. Just thought I would let you know.
  12. I believe why nobody has replied is because they do not make an M3 with a 26 inch barrel. And very few have an M3 let alone want to sell one. Check out gunbroker.com or other gun sites.
  13. My brother and I used 20 gauges for the first year we went waterfowling. Shot lots of ducks and geese with them. We used them for ducks 40 yards and under. And geese 30 and under. Heres a few birds shot with 20's. You may notice these birds are all geese, so a 20 will do the job, just not at the range of a 12 gauge.
  14. That'll work. The turkeys here are a lot more spookey then they were last year. But it has been open for a few weeks now. Last year they were pretty easy, this year they are spending most of their time on private property that I can't hunt. Its the cows fault though, they weren't here this early last year.
  15. I guess it depends on the gun, and the choke, but I don't get that far into it. That is why you are here Mud.
  16. I used some in a full choke, they patterned pretty well, but I think there are much better choices, like the Winchester high density extended range.
  17. Wasn't your fault at all. Doesn't matter how fast you pulled the trigger, gun should have fired. Thats the main reason I'm getting the Beretta Xtrema 2 instead of the SBE II
  18. Here is a site for building mallard nests. http://www.deltawaterfowl.org/ddp/henhouses/build.php And if you are really rolling in doe, and feeling really generous. Here are some you can buy. http://www.dakotanesting.com/ I only say that because the price is quite a lot for a nesting box.
  19. Everyone I've heard of whos used the kick off on the beretta says it makes that 12 feel like light 20 gauge, even with the heavy hitters. I'm getting an Xtrema 2 with out the kick off. When I get it I'll let you know if the kick off is worth the $400 extra. Hopefully I can shoot them both before I buy. We'll see.
  20. The females had a lot more color I thought, only saw one male, he had a blood red head, and was mostly black, and strutting his stuff.
  21. Anybody have pictures of different color phases of turkey? I saw a group today with a really big tom in it, I couldn't get close enough for a shot, but I noticed all the females had a lot more white then any turkey I've seen so far here. They were merriams by the way. Thanks
