  1. I'm sorry, Novaking... there was a typo in my reply. I meant that I was not understanding the math behind (not "being") the discussion. Upon re-reading it all, I now understand the bit of sarcasm involved. I'm usually pretty quick but I missed this one. Didn't mean to be "ugly." Took me a while to pick up on all this. Glad the Mythos reference was (finally) posted so I could understand what he was talking about. Never heard of a "Mythos" before.

    No problem pro

  2.

    17 shells =15 doves!!!

    7 shells=7 pheasants!!!

I can not do it-NEVER DID -with any other gun, ever …PERIOD!!!

    Skeet =25 straight= like child’s play!!!

    Trap =the same!!!

You did that with just 1 1 3/4 oz oz of shot. Man your good. Thats only .023 of one oz. per shell. How did you get your gun to cycle? I bet recoil was low! I thought sbe's needed 1 1/8 to cycle right. I would hold on to that gun.:D

  3. I have a Mesa Tactical 6 shot shell holder.

It mounts in place of your stock B rail.

    I love it.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

I put the shells primer side down and have learned a quick reload from that position.

Maybe you should look into a 25 round ammo belt and wear it to bed, Better to have and not need than to need and not to have.

  4. Most people ( including me) aren't going to be able to reload during a firefight. Not very many people put the time in at the range to make it a perfect habit. Plus, just because you can reload at the range, doesn't get you up for par for the real thing.

Experts say you will use what is in and on the gun.Thats true, If you an expert. Chances are you will be fine with what you have in the gun.

  5. Hey all...

For those of you who dont know, I currently have a Mesa Tactical SureShell (4 shot) sidesaddle mounted on my SNT. Now, while I love the look of it and can see some advantages of having this item installed on the weapon (its mainly for HD), I have grown increasingly concerned about stripping the threads of the aluminum receiver (given relatively heavy range use). Id almost just prefer to remove this thing and save myself any possible probs in the future, given that this is my only shotty.

I should also mention that I currently have a +2 mag extension, so I generally tend to keep 4 to 5 rounds in the tube. Im thinking this should be quite enough, barring some type of "zombie" fest. So, any thoughts? Im sure this might be a ridiculous and certainly, a very subjective topic. However, given the HD nature of this weapon, I was curious to see what others felt about the necessary/unnecessary application of sidesaddles where HD is of primary concern.

Thx in advance for any replies.

I think if you can't get them with the first or second shot your screwed anyway. I say take it off. Just my opinon

  6. The one thing that didn't get anwered was about the chokes and loads that have been used in this gun.

I'm a first time turkey hunter so I can use all the help ideas and advise I can get.

That velcro thing was brilliant by the way I now have no, zero, zip for rattle in the fore end!

    carlsons .650 turkey choke/ hevi shot #5 3 1/2

  7. Okay. Thanks, it just may be something I have to get used to. What are the steps you take to load the gun.

    1. close bolt
    2. load shell in chamber
    3. close bolt
    4. load x of shells amount into mag. tube
    5. gun loaded.

Your gun shouldn't no that. Your not loading the mag tube right( is don't think thats it) your your carrier is broke. try taking the gun apart and inspect the carrier.

  8. I was looking for a new gun because the 870 I have is a youth model I bought a few years back to keep behind my seat in my truck. It only has a 20" barrel. I aso have a Winchester 1300 but I am trying to keep it in good shape.

In that case. **** yah for the Nova's

  9. Stripped my M2 down except for the interia spring the owners manual never mentioned the inertia spring, gave it a good cleaning went out and shot a couple boxes of heavy field loads no problems, recoil seemed to be no worse than my 1187 the only difference I can see is it shoots as fast as I can pull the trigger. I do have 1 question with a boresnake do I put a little oil on it or just run it through my barrel dry. Thanks

Wet in front( buy the brass brush) and a little on the brass brush and dry on the rest of the snake.

  10. mine does that to. Never had shells fall out of the gun though. As soon as I move the slide back about a 1/2 inch, the carrier moves to the down position. I can't picture what yours is doing. How far do you have to slide the action back?

  11. When I put shells into the magazine tube, the shell carrier remains locked in the up position. When I go to cycle the action it will eject a live shell from the tube out of the gun. I am having to load two shells, pull the action back half way to get the carrier to go back down and then cycle the action to load the round. Is this normal or am I missing something? Any help is appreciated, ejected two shells into the water this morning.

make sure the shell is in the mag tube all the way. There will be a slight ''click'' and if you turn the gun over, you can see the shell stop on the inter wall.

  12. Your welcome

Actually, it's two small strip (not very big, on each side that comes along the barrel/mag tube lug. I was surprised that it has stayed in place over 50 shots but, my original intent was as is your case, to quiet the forend for Turkey hunting and it has served the purpose.

I don't know that Benelli just didn't consider this important but for Turkey hunting and coyote etc., I think it is....at least to the extent that I wanted to see if I could quiet the forend down with a little bit of velcro. I just don't like putting out sounds that should not be out there when hunting critters that are sensitive to such things. Which is about anything we would hunt possibly with the exception of birds for which it is pretty much a non issue.

I am sure there are other fixes that have been thought of, but I just wanted simple and effective and not change the gun per say.

    Paul

    Great Idea
