  1. Can anyone reccomend a good turkey choke for the SBEII? Just got mine & will need a choke for next year's turkey season. JellyHead worked well with my BPS, no trouble at 50 yds with max dram 5s.

p.s. I'm new at this forum & 'thread' thing, what are 'Tags'?

I've heard that the JellyHead works with the SBEII very well.

  2. I bought a Montefeltro 12 to replace a 1100 20. The 1100 has a 26" barrel and improved cylinder I hit three birds with one shot at about 20 yards over my springer at a pheasant farm. I wanted a tighter patter for longer shots at public land pheasant and changed the 12 with a 28" barrel to full. I was shooting 6's. I went back to the pheasant farm and did not hit four pheasants with three shots each, same dog and the same distance. I am thinking I need to open the pattern up eaithe a modified or improved.

Congrats on your purchase!! What did that Monty cost you may I ask?

  3. I recently read an article in a gun magazine that stated that the "modern" propellants (I assume the last few years) used in shotshells reach their maximun velocity in the first 20"-22" inside the barrel. Because of this the SBE 2 that I bought last week I got with the 24" barrel. I like a shorter barrel for turkey hunting and hope the article was correct.

Modern handgun/shotgun propellants burn within 13-15 inchs. Rifle propellants, about 28 - 30 inchs. Still like you thought, a 24'' barrel is a great barrel length.

Plus Tucker brought up in a different thread that pumps and autos have a longer sight plane than O/U's and S/Ss due to the longer receiver. So a 24'' auto has a 28-30 inch sight plane as to a 28'' O/U has a 28'' sight plane.

  4. All that matters is what you like. If you like a 24'' barrel, Then shoot it. A longer barrel will give you a longer sight plane and better "swing" but that is about it. In a shorter barrel you will hardly lose any velocity and barely see a differance in the way your gun patterns. I shoot turkeys with a 24'' barrel, upland and dove with a 26'', and waterfowl with a 28". Like I say, whatever you like.

  5. To say another way, If I have a shell chambered & the bolt locked forward I can move the slide forward/back very slightly (~2mm), and the slide moves the bolt assembly with it (the bolt head stays locked up against the barrel opening).

I'm thinking NO. If the bolt is truely locked, then there is no ''play" in the action. Next time you go to the range, (if it doesn't work) pull back on the action and see if it goes bang. Then hold the action forward all the way and see if it goes bang.

  6. Wow I can't belive you had FTF's in a Supernova. I have ran everything from Federal and Winchester value packs to Winchester 3 1/2" buckshot with no issues. If you are having problems it is either mechanical or user error with a Supernova, you don't need to use specific loads or lengths. So either the firing pin is getting hung up or is messed up all together.

    YUP!!!!!!!

  7. Recently bought a new Benelli Silver Montefeltro. Shoots high. There were previous posts that related to this issue. The gun comes with shims for the needed adjustment. The gun came with the "C" shim in it. After study and consultation, it took it apart and put in the "D" shim. Great results!!!: Now, when I mount the gun, I no longer am looking AT the barrel, but DOWN it like it should be! Don't know why they sell this gun with the particular shim installed, but at least we are supplied with the remedy. I wonder... do Italians have shorter necks than we do????

If you are having the same problems you can fix it... it ain't rocket science. You'll need a 13 mm deep socket, a phillips screwdriver, and some vaseline (or K-Y jelly if you are "over-sexed"). Follow the instructions in the manual. Good results should happen.

Shoots high. Hmmm. Better hand that gun over to me. ;)

  8. Yep, after some thought, you are right. I am wrong... sort of. But it sure has been fun getting you guys all stirred up! I have been rather "narrow-minded" in my postings but I am sure getting a lot of very good opinions which are very enlightening. I just wish that my hunting contemporaries would contribute more stuff on the forum. You tactical guys seem to have the "right of way." So... you got it. You express yourself very well and make really good points. Thanks for the reply. I have learned a lot from all this. I'll get out of your way and find a hunting thread where I can contribute significantly.

    Out of your way --

P.S. One question about YOUR reply: what is the difference in stopping power and killing power? (Seemed to me to be a weak point in your argument.)[/quote

Keep up the posts. ITS FUN anyway you put it. I've learned a lot and taugh very little.

  9. I have everything but the screws unfortunately, I contacted Benelli but the lady in customer service who I spoke with was of zero help and all she kept saying is that is sold as a kit so I resorted to the forum. Some might think its not a big deal but I mean I have to thread it into the stock with is plastic so if I use something too big it might crack, to small might loosen up later, and have the possibility of damaging the gun. Not to mention I really like doing things right so its going to bug me if I use something that’s not supposed to be in there. Guess I can try again tomorrow and see if someone else in customer service will help.

Where did you get it? take it back and get another. The place it got mine from put it on for me.

  10. This discussion drives me bananas. You guys need to be careful! Shotguns are for hunting birds. If you live in area so "dangerous" that you are thinking of shooting someone, then you need to move. What's with you guys? I promise NOT to visit any of you when you are incarcerated for killing someone. Face it, ... today, the law seems to be on the side of the criminal. Law-abiding citizens like US are at a definite disadvantage in the scenario.

I am sick and tired of reading all this "tactical" crap. Shotguns are for hunting. If you want to kill somebody, get a 44 magnum (like "Dirty Harry"). What is this you guys are in to?... some kind of "penis envy" or something like that? Do you think you have to have the "biggest gun" and be prepared to face a situation which will probably get you killed just because you are such a macho S.O.B.? Get real!!!

    Just my two cents.

P.S. My two buddies and I got 30 quail Friday (with my 'humble' Montefeltro Silver 20 gauge). No one tried to rob us in the process. I sure am glad I didn't have to shoot anybody.

    Please think about this.

    I like this guy!!

  11. I sugest all of you read the Castle Doctrine and any Amendments added to it. Also study your State laws on home invasion, forced entry, etc. I have.

Name me any person that has been sentenced to jail for defending his home with a legal weapon. In the news recently, a man who walked to the end of his driveway and killed a 17 year old by shooting him in the face and didn't get one day. Oh yes, his handgun was illegal also.

You do not have to retreat and baracade yourself. If you cannot take a mans life, I sugest you take up knitting because your wasting your money with firearm protection. Use a shotgun and be sure he is dead because if he lives, you will be sued in civil court for hurting him. If using a handgun, empty the mag and slap a new one in. If using a shotgun, fire 3 shots and if the body twitches, fire a couple more. When Police arrive, NEVER talk to the Police. Tell them your waiting on your lawyer. Why? "ANYTHING you say can and WILL be used AGAINST you in a court of law."

All home invasion crimes go before the Grand Jury to decide if you are tried in Court. I've never seen anyone go to trial for home invasion protection.

I have a loaded firearm in every room of my home and a few knives scattered about as well. I have a Concealed Carry Permit and carry virtually 24/7. Not all of us live in crime free areas.

I know a guy that went to jail with after hitting a man that broke into his house with a baseball bat. He hit him in the back as the guy was running away. He didn't have a permit for the bat but ???

  12. As yet, no. I will take the gun apart this week when I have the time. Was hoping someone has had this problem before and knew what to do to correct it. Thanks.

I don't know anyone with your problem. Check out the pin, clean, and try shooting it again.

    let use know.

  14. Is there a way to increse the force of the firing pin to the shell? I have a Super Nova that just recently started to fire maybe every fifth shell. Its a new box of Kents #2 steel. I also had the problem with Federal shells, so I bought a new box of Kents thinking it may have been the shells. The gun is 1 year old. Won from a D.U. dinner. Any thoughts? Thanks.

have you taken the pin out to inspect it?

  15. Does anyone know the specifics of what he uses? I know it's Federal, but what about length and shot size?

    Its federal premium.

For clays he says he uses 7's, 8's, and 9's.

    For upland he uses 6's
