I left the range shaking my head and remembering that my old M4 had the same quirk and so I came home to track it down. I was getting 70-90% patterns on a target slightly larger than typing-paper using my preferred 12-pellet 00 buck load at 25 yards, and groups with the slugs were ragged-hole. Just in the wrong place (way high).

Yep, I did a stupid. I have shot LOTS of lead down range from H&K's, Glock's, a Sig, a Les Baer, on and on. And ALL OF THEM work like this... 2 dots on the rear sight, 1 dot on the front sight. Target is DIRECTLY BEHIND the 1 dot on the front sight, which is in a perfect horizontal alignment with the dot to it's left and right, on the rear sight. Well those crazy italian's didn't get the memo that the Americans and Germans got. So I ended up jacking the factory zero up and now I need to re-zero. At least I know why I bottomed out my sight and still hit high... Here is the CORRECT way to obtain a sight picture with your M4S90's iron sights, taken straight from the military TM. I can't belive I forgot about this since I last owned an M4. I feel owned

Yes, it would be nice if the cheek weld could be modified, I agree. However, I will stick with the LaRue even if it causes me to need to modify my cheek weld a bit on my part.

I installed my GG&G today. It took approximately 10-15 minutes (I un-installed my OEM bolt stop the other day, that is not included in this time-estimate). I encountered no idiot marks or other significant problem. I was the only person involved in the work. It was straight foreward and simple. My method was simple--hold the part in-place with the roll-pin already started in the hole. I then threaded an allen-wrench the size of the pin through the part and applied pressure to it, holding the tip of it against the roll-pin. I then hammered the roll in through. I had a minor misalignment with the second hole, which I applied minor pressure to the GG&G bolt-release and then it popped into alignment. I continued with the roll-pin, careful not to hammer it into the path of the bolt track. I then used red lok-tite after applying gun-scrubber and then alcohol to the small bolt and female threads alike to remove any grease from packing/etc. It is now installed and I find it very comfortable. FINALLY! Aimpoint picked up the phone, and I was impressed. Knowledgeable people. Helpful. Honest. Based on my conversation with them, I will not be using an LRP. I will wait until the rail comes out and run a LaRue low mounted T1.

No offense taken. LaRue mounts have been tested with 600+ rounds down-range with the mount being removed no less than 1 time each 10-shot group. At the end of the day, I think it was off by less than 1/2MOA. I can find the exact test if you wish to see it. Would I take a shot at a person holding a baby at gunpoint if I had removed my QD optic and not re-zeroed it? No. No I would not. Would I perhapse remove my optic and then replace it and take a shot at a crow or something? Probably so. For when TSHTF, I agree with you 100% on the purpose of QD, but understand that my M4 is for range/recreational use as well. This does not mean I skimp on my equipment, just that it is not 100% for "serious" work. You as well as several other "Professionals" have recommended the LRP mount. Noone has said anything bad about it. It is only $30. I am tempted to try it out. Here in a week or two after my roommate hits me back for some rent money, I will pick up a T1 and an LRP mount. One last question, have you noticed that the round bar interfacing with the stubs on the Benelli style rail has caused any abnormal wear on the rail or bar? ETA: Co-witness? Do you mean "until someone comes out with a lower mount that THEN allows co-witness, or that ALSO allows it? I was under the impression that a T1 in this mount would NOT co-witness on a Benelli M4. Am I wrong?

Haha, I was just talking with another board member about the gas-plug O-rings on the M4, curious if they had ever had a wear issue. They said yes. They became enterprising and decided to remove them to clean, resulting in a slightly torn O-ring. I too am very detail oriented/want all the parts that might fail on-hand. So far I don't know what to stock, so I just bought a few O-rings in case I too become obsessed with taking them off. The M4 is a good tool. It is a tough tool. It is tougher than you are.

So you have removed/replaced this optic several times with no sign of POI changing when using slugs? It holds up reliably to 3" slugs (what killed my LaRue in a dozen rounds w/stock rail? I know you have handled LaRue (and apparently ARMS) mounts. How does this mount "Feel" in comparison. Is it on the same level of well-oiled-maching type quality? ETA: Correct, spelling is not my forte. I much prefer the spoken english language to the written. From what I understand, you adjust the lever by tightening/loosening the "nut" on the other side of the mount and then lok-titing it in place after you find where it belongs? The design of this mount is VERY appealing, my concern is over the quality/durability/repeatability. *ETA: You also said "We" every time you referred to an experience with the LRP. I take this to mean your unit/department/whatever. Can I infer by this that there are multiple users that you communicate with who rely on this unit and who also have no issue with durability/zero-repeatability/anything else?

Flush-fitting MOD Trulock is what I went with. Slugs, buck, birdshot. Does well with all.

I too have looked into this unit. Concerns of mine: Does it have repeat zero? Does the pressure on the screw cause stretching of said screw? Does AIMPOINT even manufacture it? I wager that they buy it from someone else. The fact that the lever is a caste part bodes not well based on tonnes of broken ARMS levers littering most military ranges. ETA: Also, when I pick up the phone to call LaRue...I get a knowledgeable LaRue employee. Not a voice mail. not a message machine, not empty promises to call back from a tape recorder. *They picked up their phone *

I do not know if they bill it as M1/M3 because they assume M4 means collapsible stock, or if it is billed as such because it won't fir the M4 at all. Again, be sure of your application before you do any spending.

Mine stays warm day and night, and has NO scars. Maybe that's because I sleep with it at night and leave it under the covers during the day.

I have never heard of any issues, and it comes highly recommended. However, I still feel the need to ask. Other than installation (which I will update you all tomorrow on how that works out for me...), has anyone had a problem with this? I know Duggan did until he lok-tited it (user error, as he admits), but nothing else. Has anyone ever had this thing go TU even after lok-tite or anything?

I would not accuse someone with such an eye for detail of "not paying attention". I am disproportionately excited about this rail though. I want it. I want it bolted to the top of my M4 with an LT mounted T1 cruising along atop it. However, patience is a virtue. I DID get the spring in the mail today. In the end, I am one who has to hold, touch, look at, and appraise something with my own senses before I can TRULY endorse it. When I say "This thing is good", I attatch my reputation to it as well. People associate it not only with who made it, but who introduced them to it. While I have always maintained that you are one of the most polite/best written/spoken manufacturers who has an online presense, it was not until today, at the recieving of the spring, that I truly appreciated the quality of what you are doing. Sure, I saw photo's, heard reviews, ect. But today when I took the spring out of the box and remembered all my dissapointment with: Surecycle, Wolf "generic" springs, Benelli M1S90 springs, ect. I could not help but smile with confidence as the time ticks down until I have my rail and Ti tube. I do not say this to imply that I doubted the quality of anything, but simply to say what everyone who has ever owned a fine automobile or sports car will tell you. Watching it, looking at it in pictures, seeing it on TV. Nothing compares to feeling the soft snick* of the shifter as you slam 3rd gear and listen to the cacophany of screaming exhaust yourself. And so it is with well-machined parts, although not quite as liberating. ETA: this hard/brittle stuff is why I have not condemned the KZ design for being softer than GG&G. I HIGHLY! doubt that the GG&G bent itself into two pieces. Perhapse it was heat-treated too aggressively and it snapped. The KZ bolt may not do this at a lower RC level. I do not know, but until you have a Bolt Charger out, I am running my stock one, being as noone will sell me their Design Concepts one.

Indeed, but not at the expense of that rail! I did, however, miss this: IMPORTANT! We have been experiencing product demand similar in nature to that of all firearms related merchants. Similarly we have recently found it necessary to ask your help in enhancing our efficiency, and afford us the opportunity to focus our efforts on production, while keeping phone and email correspondance to a bare minimum. I think that Kip's spring is finally the product that has ended my search for a spring for a FL tube. I did not doubt him, or Duggan, or others who love it, but I wanted to handle it myself. Well, mine arrived today and it is exactly 33.25" long, and has VERY stout coils. Not over-done, just right. Feels close to stock. I squeezed it a few times (sections of it) and I don't think this one is going to take NEAR the set a stock Benelli spring will. It just felt "springier". Very impressed. I can't wait until the Ti tube arrives and I can test it!

Alas, Brownells informed me that I would NOT be recieving a design concepts BCH. They have been discontinued. This sucks. Oh well, I would rather Kip have the money anyways.

+1, Kip is the only person out there listening to people on the user level, assessing the need himself, and then acting upon the vacuum in the market. If he maintains his quality at it's present level and can expand his operation without sacrificing it, while keeping his prices within a decent percent margin of their current level, he is going to make some real money off of this, and I for one hope he does. I think ingenuity and craftmanship should be fully rewarded. This isn't China. THANKYOU FOR YOUR TIME and ENERGIES KIP!

I ordered a DC Titanium bolt handle the other day. Brownells told me it would be in my hands in 10 days. Either I got part of the last run, or they will notify me that they are going to remove a charge from my CC. Assuming I DID get part of the last run, am I to understand that I lucked into buying the ONLY aftermarket bolt that is structurally CORRECT until yours hits the market (Please, by all means, DO NOT shift focus from that rail! I dream about it as well).

I guess all those FL tubes and optics have no place on my M4 then, lmao

Careful with that snap ring. Peter North ain't got nuthin on how that spring will launch across the room if you aren't prepaired for it.

When I was a kid my Dad would not allow me to use a scope. I got a scope when I was a teenager. I can shoot very accurately and among my friends I do not know anyone who can out-shoot me that is not significantly more experienced. Irons or glass. I attribute this to my father making me properly learn the basics. Irons. Use them. Master them. Never forget them. They are bomb-proof. All else is supplemental.
