  1. Most of the purchases we make beyond those which support Maslow's pyramid of needs are based on "what if..."
  2. For one they are chrome-lined, this adds a little bit. For the rest? Well, why do Acura parts cost more than Honda parts? Get the picture?
  3. Okay, The Trulock choke I purchased produced the roundest, most evenly distributed patterns my M4 has produced. Sadly, they were rather open as it was an IC choke (The benelli IC choke patterned more erratically, but MUCH! tighter for some reason). So I ordered a MOD Trulock choke in my last attempt at getting killer buckshot patterns out of this thing. My shell of preference is OOO Remington Buck. Will post up in a few days.
  4. It should, but each gun/choke/ammo combination yields different results. For instance, I just sent back $180 worth of Kick's Ind. choke tubes because they wouldn't pattern as well as my $30 Primos Dead Deer tube. Are Kick's tubes bad? No, MY M4 just didn't like them. YMMV is VERY TRUE when it comes to shotguns/ammo/chokes.
  5. I am a die-hard H&K USP fan. Of the few I have played with, all were accurate, reliable, and VERY soft shooting due to the guide-rod/spring recoil reducer design. Glocks work pretty dang well too!
  6. Actually, SIG is currently bottom of the barrel imho for QC. WHen Kimber's exec. took over there and they came out with a different model for every day of the year, their rock-solid QC and relaibility took a HUGE nose-dive. I would trust a Glock any day over a (current production) SIG when it comes to going Boom. go to www.sigforum.com and look at all the complaints. It is unreal. Our benelli forum has maybe 1 legit complaint per 20-30 posts MAX, seems like every other one over there is a post about a lemon or something. http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/430601935 Here, that is page one of their Pistol forum. STAY AWAY FROM SIGS! (they rust like a mofo too, look at them in the display cases at sporting goods stores. Likely as not, the Sig will be the only rusty gun there, look on the barrel, and barrel hood for the most likely areas). Horrible how many QC issues pop up on just page one, huh?
  7. I have owned: Sig 226 Elite ST, Les Baer TRS, and shot Glocks, H&K USP's, FN's, ect. I currently do not own a pistol, but if I buy another one, it will be a .40 H&K USP, simply for the fact that I love the USP, how it shoots, handles, and the fact that if you take the front and back of the frame in your hands and twist it won't warp like a Glock (Try that with a glock, no permanent damage done, but it doesn't make me FEEL good.). The TRS was, however, stoopid accurate. Just -1 for reliability. Dad got a nice christmas present (Since he will use it exclusively for the range, 3" at 50 yard guarantee means more than FTRB's in the first 500-1000 rounds). The SIG: Broke takedown lever (SIG replaced for free) at around 600 round mark. Had FTE's all the way to 1,000 rounds even using Ranger T and Speer LE GD loads. Sent it back to SIG AGAIN, and they polished/function tested. I never trusted it after that, even if they said it was fixed and fired 50 rounds of GDHP through it. It probably WAS fixed. I sold it after relating the story to the buyer. Like I say, money doesn't always mean the best...but usually it does if you spend it wisely. I remain a solid USP fan when it comes to pistols. I will say Glock's have the least muzzle-flip of anything I have shot through, comparing the same calibers, even if they weigh a lot less.
  8. Oh, and here I thought it meant settling for sub-standard. I try so hard every day to NEVER say "That'll do" in relation to something I am doing or trying to achieve. I much prefer. "That can do no better." -OCD/Perfectionist Hence why I spent $2200+ on a defensive shotgun. I have some genetic pre-disposition against compromise.
  9. What is this term? I am not familiar with it.
  10. I tested WS against other CLP's with salt-water. It did not do so hot. Better than rem-oil and Militec 1 (horrible) but not nearly as good as Breakfree CLP. I sent George Fennel a run-down of the test and he said it was a very harsh test, but good info.
  11. If I were to buy a pump gun for social purposes it would be a Mossy 590A1 with the heavy-wall barrel.
  12. Aluminum will not rust. As to weapon-shield, I have tried it, and it is a pretty good lube and I love the smell of it. That being said, as a rust preventative it isn't so hot (then again, this rec. is aluminum, but the bolt carrier is still rust-able). I am a fan of RIG+P with a few drops of BF CLP floated on top of it. THis will not gum up very much at all compared to most greases you are familiar with. When RIG heats up, it almost turns liquid. I just know how big of a difference pinning a barrel will make, and wonder if this tolerance opening up will make a difference too. (not in a good way).
  13. Can you verify/support this with evidence? I have shot out to 100 yards offhand with my M4 and while I didn't hit the target every time, when I did, the slug was obviously oriented correctly based on the rifling marks left around the hole smeared on the paper. Unless it was 100% base or front first, that is the only way it could leave those marks, and base-first is about impossible aerodynamically. Was this a fluke? I would like to see support for your statement in the form of testing or documentation of testing.
  14. My main question is whether this will lead to inaccuracy with slugs ect. I am not talking about the bolt carrier rail wear, but rather the barrel tang where it slides into the reciever wearing the reciever. Will this allow movement of the barrel and cause erratic grouping when using slugs? Mine seems to look similar to yours with only 500 rounds through it. I think it is more a function of removing/replacing the barrel than shooting it. I clean after every session. OR Is proper locating/tension/snugness supplied to the barrel by the end cap pressing the barrel against the reciever, rather than fitting snugly inside of the reciever?
  15. Looks like the market is pretty strong. GL with your sale!
  16. Take a white paint-pen and put a dot on the screw head, and a dot on the reciever. If the two ever come out of alignment, you have a problem. Blue locktite and SENSIBLE amounts of tq are what is needed.
  17. I am not pressured to sell, I was just wondering if they were at a high point in the market (like Colt AR's) and I could come out = or +$100 for my trouble. If not, I will keep it. Went and shot it today and it put a smile on my face.
  18. In my limited experience Remington slugs like IC and Winny's like MOD.
  19. I was just testing the waters/curious. I am not in any hurry or trying to get rid of it. Now if someone jumped on here and offered me $$$ at a winning proposition for me, well $$ is $$ and if they wanted to skip the waiting line, I would do it I guess.
  20. Well, as college is wearing on (both on me and my bank acct.) I am becoming curious. If I wanted to flip my M4 and pay off some debt, what is the market like? What would be a reasonable price to ask? M4, bought new about 400 rounds and 2 months ago (Paid 1549+Tax) Pride Fowler Mini-dot w/ Larue QD mount, bought new 200 rounds ago (Paid a hair over $400) full-length mag tube (Sourced from Numrich) (Paid $100) Mesa 6-shot side-saddle (not attatched currently, paid $84) And a GGG sling. (Paid $30) Anyways, just curious if there is a market of if this is such a niche type firearm that I should just hang onto it as there is no way to break even/come out okay? I know Benelli DOES have a 3-month wait, or did when I bought it. Anywho, any ideas?
  21. Don't you feel so much safer knowing that we have laws that protect us
  22. Yes/no THe rib is vented so as to dissipate heat from collecting on the rib and causing mirage which could blurr your target (as you are looking along the barrel), or the front bead, if you are aiming at something stationary (although in THAT case, I wonder what you would be shooting more than 3-5 times). Try it sometime with a shotgun that has no rib, it will quickly (5-10 rapid shots) blurr your target as viewed along the barrel on some days (depends on ambient temp, ect.) Think of a vented rib like you would a sun-shade on a varmint rifle that extends the entire barrel length. IT is there to crisp up the target pic and keep mirage at bay from barrel heat. It is not there to heat-sinc for the barrel.
  23. A red-dot for this would be a handicap imho. You do not aim a shotgun meant for this, you throw it/swing it, and it should be dead on if you have it shimmed correctly. Smoothly throw it to your shoulder while looking at what you are wanting to shoot and maintaining good mechanics and you should* hit it. Not aiming will always be quicker than aiming provided you hit the target. It is truly point/click interface.
  24. From what I understand: Yes it is illegal, just like when I ran my GT without cats or a smog pump. Same kind of deal, just with stiffer penalties. Legal precidence? None. Legal loopholes/confusion? Lots.
  25. Because people think you need a Kreighoff (sp*) to turn good scores because they would like an excuse for their not turning good scores
