  1. If the receiver is drilled/tapped throw a rail on there and put any optic you would like on there. If it isn't getting it drilled and tapped should be an easy/inexpensive proposition.
  2. If you have a place to shoot sporting clays DO IT. It is more fun than a pile of money. Patterning distance depends on what game you are shooing. Ideally you would pattern at the exact distance you would usually shoot things at. For trap I would say ~40yds especially if you are going to shoot behind the 16yd line. Cleaning is one of the best parts about Benellis. I wouldn't get caught up in what gun is "best" for the game. In all honesty some of the people that you will run across will be absolute snobs when it comes to equipment. Not everyone will be like that, in fact the majority won't be, but be ready for it just in case. The gun isn't doing the shooting, you are, so unless it is throwing doughnuts for a pattern how good or bad the gun will shoot is all on you. The supersport and the M2 are very similar you should be happy with one just as much as the other.
  3. I would be interested in the results should you ever end up doing the test. I don't know that it really would make a real world difference. The gas bleed holes are very small and depending on how long your barrel is could be relatively close to the muzzle so the time spent bleeding gas is relatively small. So yes technically the inertia system should use the gas to the fullest but I don't know how that translates to ft/sec or ft-lbs. Perhaps, but it would be a marketing tool for Benelli, and when Benelli makes money so does Beretta. I have an M2 and it is 1000x easier to clean than my gas guns, there are much fewer parts to play with. These two reasons alone have sold me on the inertia system.
  4. I did see you saying you had the safety switched on several, but the previous threads and the OP (from the way I read it) were looking for a DIY fix.
  5. There are a few threads about this already but I don't know of any that have come to a definitive conclusion. Did you contact Benelli CS to see if they would provide instructions/do it for you?
  6. You're a little behind Sgt, M actually took his queens out for a shoot and actually shot them He put a thread on the forum but I can't find it right this second...
  7. Well I guess it kind of depends on how secure you want to be as to your options. I put 2 4x4s under mine for the same basic reasons hognutz puts pucks under his, also the safe was a little too low for me so that helped jack it up. That could be a problem if you really needed/wanted to bolt it to the floor.
  8. Welcome to the forum, I don't know of a video but Tucker301 has a nice guide at the first link on this page: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6401&page=3
  9. One thing I would add to his list is a bolt release pad, they are not just for the tacticool crowd I did my own attempt here: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17814 you can certainly find a commercial solution but I'll be honest that the bolt pad was the single best improvement I made to that gun, just makes it 1000x easier to use and makes it more fun too
  10. Nice, hopefully you will be as trouble-free as jed at this point. It is interesting that you say there isn't a big difference between the new and old parts, seems a little touchy...
  11. Skeeter he said splurging WAS NOT repeat WAS NOT part of the plan, besides 2 M1014s running around is bad enough we don't need another one
  12. I have an M2 Field and (sadly) use it more for clay sports than I do for hunting Great gun, shoots light loads with ease, ultra reliable in my experience. For some clays days I'd put 200 rounds through and wouldn't even be sore at the end of the day. For hunting it is great, cycles all the heavy loads without beating up my shoulder. I don't know that the inertia system does anything for you as far as recoil reduction but I think the comfortec system is a good deal, doesn't eliminate it but does help. Really truly I think that the main inertia system between the M2 and supersport etc are exactly the same just different outsides so I wouldn't let the models influence you except for the aesthetics.
  13. Benelliusa isnt as good a resource for manuals as it could be. The Italian benelli site is much better. http://benelliarmi.it/Articoli/Download.asp?Type=SPL&IDArma=72 Here is where you can find parts manuals, the operation manuals can be found here too just navigate to the right section on the left (helps immensely if your browser can translate italian to english )
  14. Here is what I got out of the parts manual and it shows a retaining spring (#155E) so I thought that might go a bit to help you out but if it isnt there then you might be up a very brown creek as it were...
  15. Bleh, I thought for sure that there would be a small hole on the back of the receiver to push the pin up or getting the retaining spring off would let the pin "fall out". I'm with cleefurd, probably time to call benelli CS and get what the theory is anyway.
  16. Not having a lefty you will have to take it with a grain of salt but in the parts manual it looks as though there is a retaining spring at the bottom of the pin holding the carrier latch pin. Once that was out of the way if I had the choice I would drive the pin up into the ejection port if that was possible. Pictures would help if you could post them.
  17. Probably wouldn't be too bad. I hunt with Remington's buckhammer slug (1-3/8oz 1500fps) and the recoil there is strong but it is completely manageable. This thing is a little bit stronger (1.6oz 1500fps) but I don't see that it would rip your shoulder off or anything. Would be interesting to see how much they go for.
  18. Cleefurd don't you have any tubes/rails/bolt handles/muzzle brakes/etc that you could be making? Looking at the other threads here you should barely have enough time to eat and sleep let alone dork around on bighats profile... Wasn't my favorite episode, however like all South Park it was decently funny.

need 5 posts to put up pictures, so you could just put a few "hello world" posts in this thread to get your count high enough
  20. That is completely the way to go as far as I'm concerned. Its nice and cheap and you can change the pad at any time so long as the new one has a #6 hole in it with a countersink. Glad it worked out for you. BTW how much did the shop actually charge you for the drill/tap job, if you don't mind telling?
  21. You might try and e-mail them, last time I did that they got back to me in an hour. Plus an e-mail can wait longer in an inbox than you can on the phone:p
  22. Sounds like a good plan, I did a similar thing with stainless steel for my M2. Post it up when you get done, I'd be really interested in seeing how the anti-rotation pin turns out. My pad does rotate slightly but its not very easy, however I've been thinking about doing something to make sure it doesn't rotate.
  23. I think the main thing to consider is how often you change chokes. For me this wouldn't be a great idea because I change chokes occasionally. Also Loctite leaves a blueish "flake" (cured loctite) when you remove it and to me that would require at least a little bit of removal before putting a new choke in. But if this is going to be your only choke that becomes a non-issue. As far as heat resistance I would say you would probably be ok unless there are times where you run rounds through the gun quickly for an extended period. I've never shot so much that I couldn't hold the barrel afterward.
  24. Fair enough. My only real point there is that the GunPod looks and has extremely similar dimensions to the 1770, so I wouldn't be surprised if the GunPod WAS a 1770 with the different foam arrangement.
