Right, and no prohibition on it being imported either - it was legally imported as is. There appears to be zero restrictions on sales by gov.org agencies to any secondary market either.

FWIW, I never hoss down on the stock upon re-assembly (tighten it up as tight as it will possibly get, as in one turn less than that), no point in pushing it that far since the trigger group will retain it in place.

Wrap your head around this: "It shall be unlawful for any person to assemble from imported parts any semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun which is identical to any rifle or shotgun prohibited from importation The deal is that mere possession does not constitute being in violation of this statute, ONLY "assembl(y) from imported parts". One, if clearly a surplus gun sold off by a gov.org agency then it was not "prohibited from importation" in the first place. Two, if one has acquired a gun which was previously legally assembled (to its current configuration as a hi-cap mag shotty w/ c-stock) I don't see how any of the circumstances of ownership could possibly be in violation of the statute. The 'non-prohibited' shotgun would be viewed the same as a M4 H2O with the adjustable stock and hi-cap mag - perfectly legal to have possession of.

I get that much, I was wondering if you had any thoughts on what led to your own M4 ending up with a 'hammer down on a live round' condition. (I take it that is what happened to you personally, hammer down on a live round due to the bolt being out of battery?)

No, but I was talking with a reputable gunsmith (with lots of experience working on Benellis for 3 gun competition) this afternoon who mentioned that it can happen to Benellis, although relatively rare. I also recall that there's been some discussion on this forum of this sort of thing happening with Benelli shotguns, but I couldn't find anything in a search of the forum. However I don't think it was referred to in that (those) discussion(s) as 'the Benelli click'. This fellow said that factors causing this could be anything that interferes with the action, e.g. inadequate lube in the recoil spring area or along the rails, type of ammo, dirty, etc. I was just wondering with the vast pool of aggregated experience on this forum if anyone else was familiar with this (like I said, I know I read something on this forum in the past couple of years about someone experiencing something like this).

I'm wondering if any forum member has any personal experience or has first hand knowledge of someone having experienced the 'Benelli click', i.e. where the bolt is not fully into battery on a round, trigger is pulled, hammer drops, but due to the bolt being out of battery the primer is not struck and therefore one ends up with the hammer down on a loaded chamber with the M4. Anyone?

According to Wikipedia Beretta bought Benelli in 2000 however the Beretta logo was on the bottom of the trigger guard on my 121 M1 manufactured in 1980.

Never say never. Do you know how much a replacement barrel for the M4 is?? Besides, no need for Locktite...just never remove it to clean it and it will be locked in there good and tight. lol

I couldn't agree more - what this ultimately boils down to is a 'Ford vs. Chevy' sort of argument.
