Shotgun slugs arent the only ones with 1" expansion
tyson129 replied to Unobtanium's topic in Benelli
Where did you get a 1/2 case? Do you get them online or through your dealer? Any info would be much appreciated because I have to get 1,000 rounds at a time through my dealer. -
Options don't hurt, plus the 887 Nitro Mag performs like any high performance pump shotgun for half the price, and no where near your comparison to a plastic 870. Go shoot one and let me know your opinion based on experience. Sure semis are fun but if you know what your doing you can take down just as many birds with a pump. You are required a plug by law for migratory birds so make your shots count. Ill hit 3 birds just as fast as you and your semi with my pump I promise. Do it all the time every hunting season.

If you like Remington, check out the 887 Nitro Mag. Its a bad ass gun that my brother just picked up. It will take 3.5" shells and handle any weather condition you can throw at it plus he got his at Cabelas for $300.00 which was real nice. I have been shooting a SuperNova for the last few months and love it. Low recoil and impervious to any weather condition. You can find this gun from $360.00 to $650.00 brand new depending on the set up and accessories. These are both pump guns but are well under $1,000.00 and guns that I have cycled over 1,000 rounds through each without any cycling issues (and weve stagggered 2-3/4" with 3" and 3.5" and back to 2-3/4" without any issues). The Remmington and my Supernova cycled 500 rounds each last Sunday between my brother and I and our girlfriends shooting clays. Check out all the videos on youtube.com, you will be surprised at the toughness of these two mid priced guns and you will be very happy come hunting season as well! Good luck!

Song bird management, hahahahaha.

You wont be let down by the SBEII, I promise. I know its pricey but what a beautiful gun! If your going to be doing a lot of hunting in thick brush you may not want to get it though. Because a every scratch will make you cringe.

What do you plan on using your chokes for? Hunting or pattern testing? Im sure youve done your research but keep in mind that those full chokes will keep that pattern tight for quite a ways out. Anyways if you let me know how you intend to use your chokes I can better advise you on chokes that Ive had great success with.

Get some 00 Buckshot. Your short barrel should make quite a spread. I highly suggest getting Hornady SST slugs. They shoot 2000 fps and are a blast to shoot! I would suggest not purchasing the bore sighter because looking down your barrel and working back as Novaking suggested will yield the best results and save you some cash.

You should have talked to the gun dealer, he would have recommended a longer barrel for hunting, because right now your taking out a home defense gun for shooting. It can be done dont get me wrong but your going to get much better results with a longer barrel. Also if your going to be doing slug shooting you should pick up the slug barrel they make for your nova, mount on a trueglow red dot sight or mount a scope and hit those deer up to 200 yards away. If this is your first season of hunting its going to be real hard for you to get within 50 yards of a deer unless you start learning some real tactics (scent elimination, wind knowledge, posistioning, feeding habbits/ etc.). You will be surprised the tips you can find on the outdoor network. Start there and pick up the tips offered on every hunting show. Great luck - enjoy your backstraps.

I would but up here in Maine they require a bow hunter safety course. Its so pathetic that you have to take hunter safety that allows you to use firearms which obviously have a much farther range and than you need to go out and spend more money and time on the same coarse with bows in mind. They should have just combined the two courses. Either way if my brother ends up getting a bow I'm going to use it.

I love my 870 that I mounted a red dot sight on but I needed to get an all weather gun. I got the SuperNova and I'm loving it. The 870 rusts so easily and I need a gun that I can drag through the woods or sit/shoot in the rain and snow. Both guns work great/kill great but If I were you I would check out both the Nova and the SuperNova at the your local gunshop and see what feels good to you (weight/balance/comfort/price).

I got my turkey this spring with a 3" magnum turkey load at 50 yards but that was before I picked up my SuperNova, I cant wait to throw some 3.5" rounds at those toms. Too bad our fall season is archery only, I guess I will have to wait till next year.

Don't forget about full chokes. Keeping that pattern tight out to farther distances will allow you to hit those far birds. I prefer 3.5" shells because of the extra pellets and the joy of shooting larger rounds, but I've nailed a bunch of geese with 3" loads. Either way have a great time!

Nice game management! Great to see some summer hunting.

I cant believe that no one responded to this. I guess your all waiting for migratory bird season to use your guns. Have fun on the range I guess.

Good Decoys, Camo, Calls, and Ammo. Remember to follow through with your shots. If you don't have a retriever bring a friend with one or get some good waders or a small boat. Also do pattern testing with your ammo of choice at different distances to see how it performs so you get better results in the field. Let me know how that p350 is because my brother is about to buy one. Have fun!

Just seeing if anyone was getting anything in this "between" season. Coyotes, beaver, woodchuck, etc.? Happy Hunting- Post Pics if you got em.

Even if the crimp is not included and it holds 7+1 2-3/4" shells, shouldn't the math work out or are there different amounts of crimp between the 3.5", 3", and 2-3/4" shells? I don't reload so I'm not sure, sorry about that.

Choose your HD weapon...BUT, out of only 3 choices...

I love my S&W M&P 45. You can drag that gun through **** and back and it wont let you down. Yet to jam in a year and a half of super heavy shooting. The real big reason I love it for HD is that it can be fired around obstacles if you need to take cover, not saying you couldn't with the shotgun but you will have a lot more maneuverability. It dosnt hurt to have 10+1 although most gun fights take place within 12 feet so you really shouldnt have to use that much ammo. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. -
Also check out Remington's Premier® AccuTip Bonded Sabot Slug. I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to pick up a box soon. Check out Remington's website for full info.

If it holds 7+1 it is talking about the 2-3/4 shells. That means the 2 3/4 shells would take up 19.25" of space + 1 in the chamber. Doing some simple math you could hold 5.5 shells of 3.5" ammo + 1 in the chamber. They may allow for some extra room so that you could get 6 shells in there but I would expect you can fit 5 3.5" shells, 6 3" shells, and 7 2-3/4" shells. Hope this helps.

I will def agree with Trapshooter1 here. As far as slugs go though its hands down the Hornady SST. I know its best to use these rounds in a rifled barrel which was not specified but anytime your shotgun shoots a 300 gr bullet @ 2000 fps you just cant help but smile. Not to mention watch game drop from way outside your usual "shotgun range".

Wow, this is some deep **** Unobtanium. I guess to answer your question without getting too caught up in your waylay I would simply say that I don't identify with being a product manager (although I am good at it). I went to school for things that let to this road, which many of us are finding in these uncertain times. Before this I ran the 3D Mechanical Design and 3D Animation departments for Hallmark Engineers in Atlanta Georgia and before that I was many things, including a Parts Cutter/Welder/Finisher for Thule. So before going on much further, if I were to loose my job I would not crumble, but learn from my mistakes and move on. For now I will walk this path, having fun with my Benelli the whole way.

Some more great input. Best of luck in school, maybe one day when you graduate your mom wont have to buy your guns for you.
