  1. You should get yourself some Hornady SST rounds. Also Brenneke makes Gold Magnums (Simply Awsome) and the Super Sabot for rifled barrels only. Personally I am a huge fan of the Black magics, if you are hunting deer I would get the 2-3/4". Black Magics work great out of smoothbore and rifled barrels. All of these slugs with the exception of the Super Sabot I have used a lot of and love there performance. 1/2" groups with the Black Magics! Happy Hunting!
  2. $219.00 is not bad for a slug barrel! How good is the company, the slug test they show is def not appealing to me but none the less its a rifled slug barrel for a Nova at half the price of a Benelli one. Hammer forged I am guessing...
  3. Hahaha, Just to be clear I don't use #7 (typically), I was just talking about the Mag-Shok #7 patterning as dense as the Mag-Shok #5. I typically use #5 or #6 shot depending on the load and my setup. This year I used the #6 Winchester Supreme High Velocity Turkey 2 oz 3.5" loads to do the trick on that fall Hen. I am not far off from #7 and given the chance I would buy it from Federal in #7, because size won't matter if the density is there. P.S. I have knocked a lot of Turkeys with loads not ment for Turkey...Go figure.
  4. 1 pellet in the kill zone should do the trick:) A few more doesn't hurt.
  5. I would go with the SuperNova but both are great guns. Shoulder them both at the store and see which one you like better. Camo is not necessary but IMO you should get it, because it does help. I have taken them with my 870 as well but it became a whole new ball game when I went Camo. Last week I was prone on 15 Gobblers with my SuperNova and Sitka Optifade and was able to move from 100 yards to within 50 yards of them. Never took a shot, I had already tagged out but it was fun seeing how close I could get...It took a while because if I moved a little too much too fast they would all stop and stare at me for 2-5 minutes before returning to feeding in that field. I had no cover and I will tell you that I think if I would have had my 870 out there or a black synthetic I would not have been able to keep moving every time they thought they saw something...they all would have taken off the first time they knew something was up instead of going back to being relaxed. Great choice for a pump, I hope you get it but make sure you do your research. Happy Hunting!!!!
  6. This Thread was to stimulate talk about calls not hunting tactics and environmental factors. These threads and posts are here to help new and advanced hunters alike. In this thread I was hoping to get people talking about their gear and how they use it during the different times of the year. I guess people don't like sharing tips with others as much as I do. This year I am using all Quaker Boy products. I will be using the Ridge Runner and I decided to go with the Bleat in Heat over the Squeezin' Bleat. Both are Freeze Proof, which I need due to the extreme cold temperatures that I hunt in up here in Maine so that played a roll in my decision. Also I read a lot about them and went into my local hunting store and tried them out. I felt the most comfortable with these calls and liked the sounds that they made. The Ridge Runner for example generated a huge array of vocalization that were extremely realistic, and it was very easy to use. It also was ideal for pre-rut and the rut so I liked its versatility. I went with the Heat in Bleat because it literally makes a perfect doe in heat bleat call every time, and in comparison to the Squeezin' Bleat I knew that I would not scare off the deer while I tried to learn how to use it. I will be picking up the Squeezin' Bleat for next year though, which will give me a year to practice, but with the season starting this Saturday I have no time to mess around. Doesn't seem like many care about the calls or want to share what tools they will be using and that is OK. Just please only contribute if you care to help others know the products that are out there and how you may be using them. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
  7. I wish I could answer your question completely, I guess it is personal preference. I did not even realize that the #5 was cheaper, I would say go with #5 if it is cheaper, heck like you said you are getting the same density at 40 yards for cheaper...Can't go wrong. The only point I was making (Before you noting that #5 was cheaper) was that if you did happen to make a slightly off target (Head/Neck) shot past 40 yards you should have a higher chance of still getting your Turkey because the #7 in Theory should technically be less dense after that with a lot more pellets still moving in a larger radius. You should get a larger pattern past 40 yards with the #7 even though it will be less dense. I would go with your gut on this one, it was just my Opinion.
  8. You couldn't be any more right. Great Advice Flhawghuntr . Always be wary no matter the topic on any forum or hunting tip in general, some are genuine but there are a lot of googlers out there along with a lot of BSers too;). This is just the start though...once you get one thing figured out 10 more things arise, in this case your setup, next will be ammo, calls, what kinds of calls to make, what calls to make for what time of year, turkey habits, food sources, sit or stalk, decoys, etc. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
  9. Once again Mudhen no offense, this is just my Opinion, and I do not mean to put your suggestion down in any way. Did you really find Kent Fast Steel to be that dirty? Which load were you using if you don't mind me asking. Thanks in Advance and once again no Disrespect.
  10. No offense Mudhen, but Hevi-Metal is not worth it. If you want to bring home dinner get what I recommended you, even some Dark Cloud will do the trick. If you decide to use Black Cloud you should get a dedicated Black Cloud choke for best results (Like those made by Carlon's Chokes). Check this out if you are curious about Hevi-Metal...Name is cool, The results are not the best: http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=102976 There are pros (keep in mind sponsorships) that say they get 97% pattern test results at 40 yards but I have yet to see a picture. If you buy #2 steel, half will be #2 steel while the other half will be #5 or #6 Tungsten. Its cost reducing but I would not say better IMO. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
  11. I would recommend using Kent Fast Steel. You will have great results no matter which kind you choose and the price is low. Our Local bird dog/ gun club hated the Black Cloud in comparison to the much cheaper Kent Fast Steel...And they shoot a lot of every kind of bird you can imagine! Happy Hunting!
  12. reword it bro. Would like to hear your spin on this.
  13. Either way above is one of the best sluggin' combos EVER! HAHAHA
  14. Like I told you before I got some redneck in me. HaHAhaHa... I am the one on the right, my brother is on the left. This is down in some of our Gravel Pits, Where we like to play and do all of our pattern testing and other fun stuff!
  15. Like your style. Nothing like character! And Performance is key to character in an interesting gun! Aesthetics don't hurt either.
  16. I agree! I am so bored of all you people whining over 922R. No one is going to raid your house and seize your guns, no one is going to confiscate your weapons at the local gun club or range...Stop sweating the small stuff. The only time you need to worry about this is if you are doing illegal activities with your gun. Then they will throw the book at you...the one with 922R in it!
  17. Yeah, but with most explosives I don't feel comfortable introducing people to them, because one stupid sheet on here sees it and does something dumb, it can ban it for the rest of us who have a lot of fun with it. I would love for you to post some footage of those pumpkins going KaBooM!! With that at least you don't have to worry about deadly debris!
  18. You have the tactical barrel, if it has threads at the end of the barrel it takes chokes....I have not looked into this but that makes it pretty limited and not very versatile. Seems like with HD you would want the ability to change constrictions of your barrel with chokes due to living environments and variables that alter the way you would approach a HD situation....
  19. I will have to dig up some of that video I have of tannerite....so that all of you can think twice before using any if you can even get it. I got one video with the water emptying a small pond and filling back up...If I can find it you guys will be in for a real treat!
  20. I use tannerite for blowing up fridges and ovens to smitherines when people illegally dump in our gravel pits (Stand @ least 150 yards back because shrapnel will still land all around you...200 yards back recommended!). Also I have been known to empty some small ponds with a few pounds of it in a container that we throw out into the middle (No not ponds you fish on). Good luck with that stuff but be careful...I don't even think I should be talking about it on here. Be safe and have fun. But for sure be safe!!!!
  21. Not the most ideal shape for an oar. Would you use your fishing pole to get home too?
  22. Sorry I forgot about the shot size question. If you get the Mag-Shok Heavyweights like I did than I would recommend the #7s like they do because they claim they throw as dense of a pattern at 40 yards as the same load in #5. To me it is a win win because you get the density of the #5 shot but you throw a lot more lead pellets at them. Out at a longer range than 40 yards it will be less tight but you will have a larger pattern that could turn a misjudged shot into Turkey on the Table IMO. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
  23. That is a Great choke for the FC Wad. As long as it is not ported like you said it won't have any problems. I ended up shooting my last 2 shells of Federal Mag-Shok Heavyweight #5 (I think it was #5, I will have to go back and check) out of a full choke this year, one for a pattern test that I posted on here, one a waste at a big Tom out of range because I wasn't using my Carlson's Turkey choke .665 constriction like yours because mine is ported (Left some feathers but no bird..BOOOO! We ALL miss though, sadly). Wish I would have had your choke on my gun for that shot, because my post would have had a much better looking Bird (Wouldn't have been as good to eat IMO as the hen I got). Be wary though of some of the Federal Prices...Is the squeeze worth the juice?..Helll I payed $28.00 for that box of Mag-Shoks for 5 rounds! What a disappointment...If only my Turkey Choke was not Ported! But than again the pattern was much denser out to a much farther range with the FC Wad on a full choke alone. I say go with the FC Wad out of your Carlson's (I'm guessing extended) Turkey Choke .665 (Non-Ported) and you will see some devastating results! Good Luck, Hope this Helps.
  24. There is some play in the SuperNova, and you will hear the clicking your friends are talking about if you have your hand on the pump and you move the pump back and forth. There is about 1/4" or less of play in mine and I am currently making a piece that stops the clicking. I would hate to loose a trophy deer because I shifted positions and my SN made the CLICK!
