  1. QD location is way too low and probably would contribute to weapon roll tendency with a sling, as it's nature anytime the location is off axis.
  2. Not so much for getting back to it, but rather an opportunity for some to see photos linked to discussions that they have missed out on to date.
  3. ^^^ You have to have added the extension to YOUR browser........as an Example, I can see all of Stranger Danger's photobucket content on Magazine Tube Assembly thread. THIS IS WHAT I SEE: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6726wipbi7ynrxl/Screen%20Shot%202017-11-26%20at%2010.11.33%20AM.png?dl=0
  4. For those that may have been caught out by Photobucket revised subscription plan checkout the Photobucket Hotlink Fix......Google it and give it a try. After installing the extension to your browser you may need to Refresh your browser page as well as the forum page of interest. Here's an example of a photo that now works again. You are welcome.
  5. A perfect example is the Remington 870P Modular Combat System.....it can be purchased as a complete kit that includes 10", 14" and 18" barrels. It would be BATFE registered as a 10" SBS.
  6. ^^You are the "manufacturer" when you file a Form 1. You are manufacturing two components: the receiver being legally mated to a less than 18" barrel the original manufacturer did not ship that shotgun with. So, you use the original receiver mfg. SN, Benelli in this case, and the short barrel you are going to mate with it, the 12-14" barrel. The same thing is true when building SBR's, again usually indicating the shortest possible barrel you may use in the future e.g. a 8.5 " SBR barrel, however you can also use a 9", 10.5", 14" etc.....the BATFE will record your build with the shortest barrel. To use a different longer barrel, then you only need to send a "courtesy notification" letter to the BATFE of your intentions to do so; no $$, no fingerprints, no photos, no forms. IF you were to use a 10.5" barrel, you must also have in your possession the 8.5" barrel that the SBR was registered as, in order the rifle can be configured as originally registered with the BATFE; in case you were ever to be audited by the Federales. The BATFE registers the receiver of the shotguns and rifles, not the barrels. That's why you can walk into a gunstore and buy a short barrel for either; your responsibility is that you don't break the law by going home and illegally constructing the short weapon. I have done this many times. Most recently received BATFE stamps from Oct 2016 on two SBS's and just submitted some more SBR's in August 2017. From BATFE Form 5320.1 10.Description of Firearm and Markings. (1) Item 4a. If you are modifying an existing firearm, enter the name and location of the original manufacturer. If you are creating the firearm, enter the maker’s name, city and state. (2) Item 4b. The types of NFA rearms are listed in the definitions; (3) Item 4c. Specify one caliber or gauge. If there is another designation, indicate the designation in item 4h. (4) Item 4d. Show the model designation (if known). (5) Item 4e and 4f. Specify one barrel length and overall length in items 4e and 4f as applicable. Note: if the firearm has a folding or collapsible stock, the overall measurement is to be made with the stock extended. (6) Item 4g. Do not alter or modify the serial number of an existing firearm . Enter the existing serial number or, if a new firearm, one you create. (7) Markings: The maker is required to mark the firearm with his or her name, city and state. All markings are to be in compliance with 27 CFR 478.92 and 479.102.
  7. You don't have to engrave anything. File a Form 1, use the existing SN on the receiver, indicate a 14" barrel on the form......submit photos, fingerprints, wait 8-12 months and get BATFE approval stamp......only then assemble your M4 receiver with the 14" barrel. You then have a legal SBS. Most would recommend you do not purchase your 14" barrel until your BATFE paperwork is completed in hand, otherwise you may be subject to having the 14" barrel as "constructive possession" for the SBS, which is illegal. If you really want to keep your future options open, indicate a 12" barrel on the Form, then you can build an Israeli Defense Force 12" entry M4 and also use your 14" barrel.
  8. ^^ I hope we're not going to be exposed to an overlay of that visual.
  9. Both screw sizes work if those M2 receiver holes were factory and not uncertain aftermarket installations. There is only 0.0065" of a major diameter difference between the 8-40 and the M4. The .75 pitch and 40 tpi are also virtually identical. It is one of few size instances where metric and UNC/UNF are interchangeable for all practical reasons. I have used both in the receiver holes. You can get the 8-40 plug screws @ Brownells. https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/small-hardware/metal-screws/plug-screw-kit-prod792.aspx These are factory screws from years past.
  10. Well, then just use 8-40 plug screws! http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-parts/barrel-parts/barrel-hardware/8-40-screw-plugs-prod75293.aspx http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/small-hardware/metal-screws/hex-plug-screws-prod21185.aspx
  11. You can just use plug-and-play polymer plug "screws" and not worry about the threads. http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-parts/barrel-parts/barrel-hardware/8-40-screw-plugs-prod75293.aspx
  12. LOP-Likely Odd Person; Looser Old Post ?
  13. The owner doesn't give a rats A$$ that it looks that way.
  14. I would check the new gun business owner unemployment lines !
  15. 1. Before removing the magazine tube place a witness mark index on it relative to the receiver so the magazine tube can be restored to its exact position after removal. The barrel indexes off the magazine for proper head spacing of the cartridges, thus proper functioning. 2.Because of #1, you should use some modest strength thread locker to prevent the magazine tube from unscrewing from the receiver during recoils. A small amount on just several muzzle-end threads of the magazine will make any future removal much easier. 16. Finally, resort to fabricating a simple tool.
  17. For those that may be interested in disassembling their shrouded Surefire end-cap, a couple of simple methods can be used. 1. Proper-sized angle snap-ring pliers to engage the slots in the retaining ring to unscrew it from the shroud. 2. A simple inexpensive watch case back removal tool with a variety of tips, fit the slots of the retainer ring nicely.
  18. The above 14" 870 started life as a 18" Wilson Scatterguns Technologies custom; way to bulky !
