1. The problem with the Benelli M4 hand guard is its relative small size of real estate to get the tape switch mounted in an ergonomic fashion for thumb activation. The Hayle kit attachment project looks similar to a problem encountered when I had to fabricate a rail for a switch mount at 10-11 o'clock position on my 8" 9 mm SBR; had to get the light on the right side and away from the hand guard to make room for well, my support hand! The switch lead lengths were limiting my options to have the switch opposite side of the light mount and I wanted it to be QD. I used some T-nuts on the underside of the inner surface of the rail, like when I mounted a pica tinny on the OEM Benelli hand guard.
2. The length of the Unity switch leads do not appear to very long to traverse right side to left side.... a hot barrel probably prohibits the lead to course it over the top of the hot barrel (short route) so underneath the magazine tube / hand guard is quite a bit longer route to a 9 -11 o'clock switch position ? In fact, in my experience short leads on most switches are the achilles of mounting them.
3. Won't that be problematic for right hand shooter to activate the light without a tape switch of some type?
4. Remember some heads have flat and radius surfaces that need to be considered to make them fit well. ..........;'''''
5. Just a few of the lights I have mounted to AVA on a 14". I have some Scout photos around somewhere - standby.
6. Here's one one of mine done right.
7. ^^^....And then there was the AVA for the public at large. It's a very good mount.
8. A few years ago I was fabricating some rails to fit the hand guards and remember how difficult it is to fit / fasten the rail on the curved surfaces of the handrail, inside and out.
9. SD- What's that Bondo repair looking situation on the hand guard ?
10. It may well work. Again depending on the brand of cartridges, as we have detailed here many times before, its their cumulative length that dictates number loaded. Ghost loading will always be +1 as well.
11. ^^Doubt it. Average 2-3/4" cartridges are 2.2-2.3" long X 3 =6.6-6.9" leaving only 3" for magazine follower and compression of magazine spring. I have a 7.5" Rem 870 and it's 2+1.
12. The Israeli IDF uses a 12" barrel.

14. Here's one of my 14" M4 SBS-AVA combination with different forends.
15. ^^ yes, it's metric. Use either 7/32" or 5.5 mm wrench.
16. QD location is way too low and probably would contribute to weapon roll tendency with a sling, as it's nature anytime the location is off axis.
17. Not so much for getting back to it, but rather an opportunity for some to see photos linked to discussions that they have missed out on to date.
18. ^^^ You have to have added the extension to YOUR browser........as an Example, I can see all of Stranger Danger's photobucket content on Magazine Tube Assembly thread. THIS IS WHAT I SEE: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6726wipbi7ynrxl/Screen%20Shot%202017-11-26%20at%2010.11.33%20AM.png?dl=0
19. For those that may have been caught out by Photobucket revised subscription plan checkout the Photobucket Hotlink Fix......Google it and give it a try. After installing the extension to your browser you may need to Refresh your browser page as well as the forum page of interest. Here's an example of a photo that now works again. You are welcome.
20. A perfect example is the Remington 870P Modular Combat System.....it can be purchased as a complete kit that includes 10", 14" and 18" barrels. It would be BATFE registered as a 10" SBS.
21. ^^You are the "manufacturer" when you file a Form 1. You are manufacturing two components: the receiver being legally mated to a less than 18" barrel the original manufacturer did not ship that shotgun with. So, you use the original receiver mfg. SN, Benelli in this case, and the short barrel you are going to mate with it, the 12-14" barrel. The same thing is true when building SBR's, again usually indicating the shortest possible barrel you may use in the future e.g. a 8.5 " SBR barrel, however you can also use a 9", 10.5", 14" etc.....the BATFE will record your build with the shortest barrel. To use a different longer barrel, then you only need to send a "courtesy notification" letter to the BATFE of your intentions to do so; no $$, no fingerprints, no photos, no forms. IF you were to use a 10.5" barrel, you must also have in your possession the 8.5" barrel that the SBR was registered as, in order the rifle can be configured as originally registered with the BATFE; in case you were ever to be audited by the Federales. The BATFE registers the receiver of the shotguns and rifles, not the barrels. That's why you can walk into a gunstore and buy a short barrel for either; your responsibility is that you don't break the law by going home and illegally constructing the short weapon. I have done this many times. Most recently received BATFE stamps from Oct 2016 on two SBS's and just submitted some more SBR's in August 2017. From BATFE Form 5320.1 10.Description of Firearm and Markings. (1) Item 4a. If you are modifying an existing firearm, enter the name and location of the original manufacturer. If you are creating the firearm, enter the maker’s name, city and state. (2) Item 4b. The types of NFA rearms are listed in the definitions; (3) Item 4c. Specify one caliber or gauge. If there is another designation, indicate the designation in item 4h. (4) Item 4d. Show the model designation (if known). (5) Item 4e and 4f. Specify one barrel length and overall length in items 4e and 4f as applicable. Note: if the firearm has a folding or collapsible stock, the overall measurement is to be made with the stock extended. (6) Item 4g. Do not alter or modify the serial number of an existing firearm . Enter the existing serial number or, if a new firearm, one you create. (7) Markings: The maker is required to mark the firearm with his or her name, city and state. All markings are to be in compliance with 27 CFR 478.92 and 479.102.
22. You don't have to engrave anything. File a Form 1, use the existing SN on the receiver, indicate a 14" barrel on the form......submit photos, fingerprints, wait 8-12 months and get BATFE approval stamp......only then assemble your M4 receiver with the 14" barrel. You then have a legal SBS. Most would recommend you do not purchase your 14" barrel until your BATFE paperwork is completed in hand, otherwise you may be subject to having the 14" barrel as "constructive possession" for the SBS, which is illegal. If you really want to keep your future options open, indicate a 12" barrel on the Form, then you can build an Israeli Defense Force 12" entry M4 and also use your 14" barrel.
