Any recommended gunsmiths for Benelli M4 mods in Phoenix AZ area?
benelliwerkes replied to bill722's topic in Benelli
Not meaning to state the obvious, but it is helpful to remove the bolt and trigger group from the receiver so they collectively don't act as heat sinks thus requiring higher / longer heating efforts to release the thread locking agent. Likewise, if you use a protective vise, offset the tube-receiver from the vise so it (the vise jaws themselves) do not act as heat sinks. -
You are welcome.

Does anybody run their M4 without the top rail?
benelliwerkes replied to forzArmata's topic in Benelli
There are a few examples of SAE / metric thread sizes being interchangeable; 8-40 and M4 x .75 coarse thread screws are within a few thousandth's of each other; certainly for plug screws that have no tension, they are suitable substitutes and much more readily available. It's the only threaded part on the Benelli I know of where SAE can be used. There are some third party reports the factory specifies a 8-40 thread however I have never seen it in factory documents. -

You can use 8-40 receiver plug screws. http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-parts/barrel-parts/barrel-hardware/8-40-plug-screws-prod75293.aspx -
Announcement: AVA Mod1 for the Benneli M4

Of course it could.....it would require the operator with an orangutan-like arm to activate the light switch when you grab the hot barrel.- 105 replies

I prefer to use nitrile O-rings for gun related applications, as in this instance.

Photos by permission: Benelli M1 / M2 Anatomy Series of Manuals For lack of a better term, it is O-ring like. My speculation is that its purpose is twofold: 1) prevent over-tightening of the Action Recoil Spring Retainer into the Action Recoil Tube, not so much when the retainer is fitted to the recoil tube, but rather when the stock bolt nut is being secured- as the shaft is common to both threaded ends 2) function as a soft locking washer. The "O-ring" is not a identified part in the M2 schematic parts list. I have replaced it with a similar-sized O-ring, or if partially damaged (as shown at arrows) ignored it and re-installed it; Regardless of the situation, I do however put a dab of blue loctite so the ramming action of the Action Spring Plunger does not loosen the fitting.

Just received the AVA Tactical Mod 1 Benelli M4 mount. I won't repeat all the aforementioned accolades, just confirm them ! The machining, fit / finish is excellent. I plan on trialing several light options in the next few weeks and will post up some photos. Thanks again to Joel for his business fortitude in delivering another quality M4 accessory to the marketplace.- 105 replies

SD.....haven't yet, but I know there is also new P2X Fury with the Intelligent beam, so I am going to get one or the other (scout model) and give it go. This one is secured by the original AVA mounted on a 14" M4 Entry.

A simple-minded question: why is the magazine tube depicted in the photo not secured with a magazine cap ?

In 2011 I described a modification to a Mesa QD Sling for M4 platform. The Mesa part must be modified to be installed on the M4. As a general rule.....ALWAYS modify the least expensive part or the part that is most readily replaceable / available. In this case, do NOT modify your butt stock pin aperture; rather, reduce the external diameter of the inexpensive 2-part "screw" from Mesa that replaces the OEM roll pin. You can chuck the 2 part screw in a drill press / lathe and use a file / or 80-grit sand paper to reduce the diameter; go slow and trial fit the parts. Performing the reduction with the 2-parts assembled will avoid distorting the internal threads. Importantly, IF you don't like its use later, then remove the screw, replace the OEM roll pin and your gun art remains absolutely the same. IF you desire any other details just speak up.

My 2 cents. Sorry, but it's unattractive and singular in use. Don't pimp your ride with this one.

Supernova tactical picatinny rail installation

You might consider using a proper conventional 8-40 gunsmith plug screw rather than a plug that can fall out; they are available as either hex screw head or slotted. Easy online search. 8-40 PLUG SCREWS | Brownells If you don't want to use screws / plugs consider black silicone sealant that can easily be cleaned out with a 8-40 tap in the future. You are welcome. -
I run a Scout on this 14" Mossberg 590A1; I might have to try the mount on the 14" M4. If you need a beta tester, send me one.
