  1. I'm in Joel. I have one and it's great, but.....two is one and one is none. Thanks.
  2. Have you considered spraying the contact surfaces of the clamp with PlastiDip ?
  3. A minor point : The M4 magazine tube can be loose and rotate its position forward a thread pitch or two in length and it really wouldn't matter as the M4 barrel headspace is not dependent on the magazine tube being properly located along its axis with the receiver. The M1 / M2's however, the barrel headspace is indexed off the magazine tube so it is important to mark the alignment before / after magazine tube removal / installation on these models.
  4. As a matter of proper form, one should always press the back of the slide with the thumb when re-holstering any semi-automatic to make sure that it is indeed in battery, that's why you do it with a Glock or M&P or any other that does not have a slide locking mechanism; these guns being ~ 1/8" out of battery will not fire (good to know for self-defense ! and remember when shooting from within a vehicle if you place the muzzle up against a closed window / windshield). It doesn't mean that violent jarring of the gun within the holster, or a debris within the holster could not dislodge the slide from battery. A well maintained recoil spring and attention to form will usually make this concern a non-issue.
  5. A few more traditional 1911's. I massaged a common Colt Officer Model into a pretty nice package with some upgrades. The history of Charlie Kelsey and his Devel Company makes for good bedtime unsolved gunsmith corporate unsolved murder conspiracy readings. I incorporated his innovative simple modification to allow the 1911 safety to remain active to unload the 1911 in the Officer model; why the feature is not commonplace I can't figure out.
  6. Couldn't agree more. I love the 1911's. I had Wilson Combat build me these two customized fraternal twin guns....Tactical Elite (Government full size ) and Professional Elite (Commander size) models in 2011 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1911........just about a year to get them.
  7. A smaller Mini-Me profile for working off the bench.
  8. Yes. But mine's not for sale. I'm with TruckCop on this one. Spotting birds or bullet holes ? These are good to about 300M for bullet holes in white paper; after that it's helpful to have a wireless camera system .

  11. Rather than a wild guess such as yours. The setup above as configured weighs 11 lbs 8 oz. A SCAR 17 weighs 12 lbs. A fully loaded M4 18" with 7 round tube & small optic is also just under 12 lbs. These weapon setups and the accessories used to assemble them were not developed in a vacuum. Rather, they were commercially developed by several companies collaborating in response to requests from military and law enforcement units worldwide to better meet their mission equipment tasking. The point of the post was to demonstrate kit alternatives that offer flexibility as to the manner in which a secondary weapon can be carried in a unconventional position that suffers no liability in functionality. Not only does the combined carbine-sidearm keep things together for when you need them, with the QLS system you can transfer the level 2-3 holstered pistol to your thigh rig or belt rig in seconds if so desire.
  12. To assist those in following along as to the mechanics under discussion on this thread, here are some illustrations of the M4 field stock bolt as it is related to the action recoil tube and its spring retaining nut, as well as how compression of the stock bolt provides the extra length to fit the field stock flush with the receiver when a sling plate is installed.
  13. It was !.....I just didn't crank it one more turn for a lazy photo...my bad. I have the GG&G sling, just prefer the modified MESA installed in the roll pin hole, so I had not paid much attention to solving this gap problem. There is plenty of room to insert a polymer plug securely in the rectangular forward grip and have its external profile shaped to the backside of the trigger guard for a nice look. I am going to have to look around for the right material for this project. Will update.
  14. For those that want it both ways, long & short arms...... Noveske N4 10.5" 5.56 with Safariland QLS - rail clamp attachment system for Level 2-3 holsters provide security and lightning fast transition to secondary weapon as needed; keeps everything together in one tidy package. 15. I told myself I wouldn't get sucked into this diversion from Trial Install on the M4......guess not. The little lady of the house keeps this book on the night stand..she's quite capable of shooting anything in the family arsenal, her favorite is .357 Desert Eagle "it's heavy but not much kick". The big Surefire is more important than the contents of the book as it prevents her from always having to point a loaded flashlight about the house as noises are investigated. No magazine release to accidentally hit and drop the full Glock payload on her toes. No hammer to snag on the night robe. No double feed malfunctions or out-of-battery misery in the middle of the night. The Crimson laser obviates the need to acquire any sight picture whatsoever, point-of-aim = point-of-impact; much easier to shoot from cover positions, around corners and over the top of the matress. The 8 lb pull is the same, shot to shot.....it's a cake walk with the adrenaline surge. Only 5 shots....criminals don't run toward gun fire, heroes do....not aware of a single case in north america where a proper citizen was defeated by criminals who did not respect 5 shots in their direction; please provide a citation if you know of one. Criminals never complain about the gun or caliber they were shot with (shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition). Photos ? Imagine that. Little magnets in the corners of the book cover provide a secure closure.
  16. The GG&G plate will function on the collapsible stock it just has a 2.5 mm gap .....cosmetic, like the Glock gap at the bottom of the magazine well that actually functions to ease magazine removal to manage cartridge malfunctions. The field stock bolt screws into the action recoil spring retainer nut; however, the double ended threaded bolt length of the field can be adjusted to accommodate for the 2.5 mm sling plate thickness; the GG&G tool for the field stock installation is designed to adjust the bolt length 3 mm.....it's a 8 x 1.0 mm pitch bolt.....turned 3 times = 3mm, as per instructions, and now it fits without the same cosmetic gap suffered by the collapsible stock.
  17. Depends on the rail segment I am working with; for example, if I wanted to use this Advanced Armament rail segment, I would shape the receiver-side radius with a 1/2 round ******* file (that's funny, apparently the forum doesn't allow one to type a bast$rd file!), a few strokes and you almost have exactly what you need, lightly hand sand the surface for a fine finish, cut-to-length as needed, use the original rail as template to configure hole placements, blacken the surface to personal taste. The aluminum rails are pretty easy to work with. Always work on the cheap parts first !
  18. Some of setups are for fun.....some for run. The one above can't get much lighter; even to the point of having 3" of excess factory rail that is not needed if you plan on using an mounted optic; if not remove the factory rail too and plug the holes for cosmetics. To minimize weight I will set some up with 2" rail segments, depending on the rail I might have to modify the hole placement to match the receiver rails, others seem to fit their 2-hole just about perfectly over receiver holes #1 & #3. The position of the short rail over the existing rail holes to use may be different for some depending on their eye relief to the optic requirements......using a collapsible stock increases choices. You can always tap and thread the receiver for additional screw locations if needed. You can also purchase blank picatinny rails to machine or already fabricated and just cut to length. Some examples of optics that can be used on the short rail segments, the optical height axis of course will have to be suited to the user. Yes, I use some plug screws as needed for cosmetics only.
  19. I think SD's suggestion would look like this slimmed down variant......just add the velcro sidesaddle and be done. Maybe even a smaller profile light to be really nimble.
  20. The rail system also allows the Kestrel to be offset mounted forward to keep up-to-date weather information for the ballistic computer.
  21. ......don't stare. I also fabricated a modified STOMP for shooting optics up to 300 meters; beyond that I use the computer camera Bullseye target system. This thread is now a long way from pistol bayonets!
