For me, using the little shim frees up your hands and its an essential part of the magic trick. A nasty dirty bolt might need a little cleaning first.

Never had so much misery trying to post a few photos........either this site or photo bucket!!! It must be photo bucket.......the "insert image" upload option on this site is awful, as it degrades the image to almost useless. I'll try again tomorrow. All the M1 / M2 / M4 extractors are retained in a similar fashion and same tools used for the tasking.....I am certain somewhere there must be a special Italian factory tool part # to execute this task. This is the only way I know to get the job done without screwing up any parts or leaving an amateur trail. Photos by permission: Benelli Anatomy Series of Manuals

Benelli M4 -- Complete Trigger Group Assembly Guide

Not so much too stiff to compress but with lubricants on the springs and plungers, I just like the control the gadget provides to prevent a spring or plunger from flying off to the far corner of the work space or into the safety glasses. -

SD, I have found it pretty handy to fabricate an inexpensive tool modified from a free paint can lid tool to compress similar styled springs on their plungers, which makes the task of controlling their removal and installation a cinch. Polish the tips to avoid any marring of parts. -

If coyote shooting in low / no light conditions a good scope can be a nice advantage; might even use the Surefire to identify the target. S&B 1.1 -4 X Short Dot w/illuminated reticle Aimpoint T-1 2MOA

Thanks for your 8-40 screw perspective. The M4x.75 and the 8-40 are virtually identical to within a few thousandths of an inch dimensions. It is one of the unusual ASE - metric crossovers; not surprisingly both easily cross-fitting into standard screw-checker devices. It seems odd that every other threaded surface on every Benelli shotgun I am familiar with is metric, not ASE threads.

You might try one of these budget clamping options......~ $10 ! Last year I purchased the Tactical Barrel Clamp Mount clamp just to see what $10 bucks buys. It's aluminum with 4 hex head screws and a set of shims as well; 5 rail segments. I just secured a LaRue QD mount to it to make sure it would mount securely and it does. Not mil-spec by any means, but it might be just what you need for your situation. First review on Amazon discusses TRL mounting. I have used this to protect some segments of my carbon fiber tripod and it works very well. Gorilla Tape, Camo Matte Finish, 9 yds - Walmart.com Your welcome.

AR build need trigger lower parts recommendation

The Geissele triggers come with a slave pin to assist re-installing the pins that were removed. Geissele also has a Trigger Fitting Pin available on their website (as well as Midway USA) that is worth having. Geissele Trigger Fitting Pin AR-15 LR-308 Trigger Fitting Pin - Tools I don't see that you have disclosed what type of AR you are building....small parts for AR15 ? AR10 ? -
I use SureFire Pro defenders combined with electronic MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X with silicone gel ear seals. When hearing protection is worn, your level of exposure to noise is based on the NRR rating of the protection device being used. Keep in mind, however, that while the NRR is measured in decibels, the hearing protector being used does not reduce the surrounding decibel level by the exact number of decibels associated with that protector’s NRR. For example, if you are at a rock concert where the level of noise exposure is 100 dB and you are wearing earplugs with an NRR 33dB, your level of exposure would not be reduced to 67 dB. Instead, to determine the actual amount of decibel deduction applied (when decibels are measured dBA which is the most common), you take the NRR number (in dB), subtract seven, and then divide by two. Given the previous example, your noise reduction equation would look like the following: (33-7)/2 = 13. This means that if you are at a rock concert with a level of noise exposure at 100 dB and you are wearing a hearing protector with an NRR 33 dB, your new level of noise exposure is 87 dB. If you are wearing a product with an NRR of 27 it would deduct 10 decibels (27-7/2=10). How does wearing dual hearing protectors change NRR? When hearing protectors are worn in combination (i.e. earplugs AND earmuffs), rather than adding the two NRR numbers together, you simply add five more decibels of protection to the device with the higher NRR. For example, using 3M™ E-A-R™ Classic Earplugs (NRR 29) with 3M™ Peltor™ H7 Deluxe Earmuffs (NRR 27) would provide a Noise Reduction Rating of approximately 34 decibels. Symbol Definition Where Used NRR Noise Reduction Rating United States SNR Single Number Rating European Union SLC8 Sound Level Conversion Australia/New Zeal Users should not be concerned when they see several different attenuation ratings on a package. The difficulty with inter brand comparison is that each rating number is based upon manufacturers employing differing test standards, test frequencies and calculation methods, and any given hearing protector generates different numbers depending on the rating method used. It is not hard to imagine the manufacturer using only the method that allows the highest possible rating for their product.

I have various Geissele's in all my AR type rifles and they are very nice. Bill Geissele explains his trigger variants here. -

I like to make simple modifications to the tips to increase their efficiency and security when compressing parts more so than the snap ring itself; as you compress some snap ring requiring parts the tendency is for the tips of the tool to slide off the part. The Wiha's come in a variety of angles and pin sizes. -

SD Sometimes for unusually short length pin sizes I make a cylindrical "shim", either with a cut-off piece of similar sized drill bit or from drill rod stock and reduce the depth of the roll pin holder in that manner; alternatively, I have made brass punch roll pin holders only because the brass is so easy to machine; the brass ones also are nice to start even regular roll pins to reduce the risk of marring the parts. -
