Jolly Roger Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 Show off your gun cleaning set-up! What cleaning chemicals do you use? What oils and lubes do you choose and why? What products have you tried that failed? How do you store it and what do you store it in? Quote
Sukhoi_fan Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 (edited) Over 5 years ago I acquired a Benelli M1014 which had apparently hundreds of rounds of slugs fired through it. The bore was covered with lead. I forget which solvent I used but I attached a Hoppe's #9 Tornado Gunsmith's brush to a single section of cleaning rod and then chucked that up in a cordless drill. Power tools rock. I cannot imagine how many hours cleaning that lead out manually would have taken except it would have amounted to 'lots.' Edited November 11, 2019 by Sukhoi_fan Quote

Probably best on smooth bore guns though, I've been tempted on trying that with a rifled barrel from time to time but always chicken out. Lol Quote
Jolly Roger Posted November 11, 2019 Author Posted November 11, 2019 Anyone use regular motor oil as lubricant? I keep seeing this mentioned on other forums. Never tried it myself because I still have plenty of my regular stuff (Break Free). But when I run out imma going to give it a shot. No pun intended? Quote

I use that TW25 grease (I think that's the name of it) and I can never really get it exactly where I want it and always put to much on. Ill try your paint brush trick next time javars! 1 Quote
StrangerDanger Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 I have six Milwaukee work benches in my shop currently. Each one has a thick rubberized mat on them. I bolted my new Wilton vise to the wood top to one of them. The main work area gives me a work bench that is 10' x 4' wide. All soft close drawers on these benches. An ultrasonic cleaner is over on one of the back wall benches full of Hoppes #9. I'll be bringing in a blast cabinet in soon. My lathe is out of view in these shots. 2 Quote
Jolly Roger Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Every one of those drawers better be full of cleaning stuff or your disqualified from this thread.?......envious...? Quote
StrangerDanger Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 There are a few I haven't fully populated yet! One is dedicated to reloading tools and equipment. Another has my sockets and wrenches. Drawers for Dremel tools. Another is filled with my electrical diagnostic equipment. One has a bunch of lathe tooling. Bench blocks and vice fixtures. It's rarely ever that clean though! 2 Quote
ClackClackBAM Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Damn Stranger, that's an awesome setup! I don't have room for that quite yet, so for now I'm just looking for a cleaning mat. Do you know of any that have an M4 design similiar to what TekMat makes? Quote
CobraBG Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 It sure is, never would have thought I would have vise envy... Very nice set up SD! Quote
StrangerDanger Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Sorry guys, been busy dealing with Obama's kids. I definitely treated myself when I bought that Wilton. I should have went for the 6" though, but I was already at the 500 range. Really like using it over my old Polack vice with busted jaws. Brownells sells large rubberized mats that are heavy duty. They are a little pricey though. Especially when you have to buy 8 of them like I did. 1 1 Quote

StrangerDanger Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 It was a bit cheaper when I bought it. Like 479 two years ago. 1 Quote
JRCOWBOY Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I just got my OTIS elite range box. The patches that come with it are bad and poor quality. They seem to fray and leave tons of lint behind. What do you guy use for patches while cleaning. Using on a M4. Quote
