  1. oh boi, it can get pretty spendy. I stick with PB Swiss, but you get limited sizes. Brownells has a huge selection of sizes, but they aren't as nicely finished. Wera is also pretty good, they make hi-torque bits perfect for optics. I recommend PB Swiss punches as well, especially since they have a extra long 2.5mm punch that nobody else makes (useful for the shell stop lever).

  2. Went to the range today with the boy (13) to plink some rounds. Started with the 10/22, RSO popped over for some conversation as the kid was shooting away like 22lr was in surplus. Saw my Savior bag, and asked what else ya got. Said, brought the 30.06, and a Benelli 12, and wanted the boy to shoot both. His eyes got a little sparkly, first because the boy was going to tackle both for the first time, but secondly because I said the B word. So said when he’s ready-wants to see him shoot. Really he wanted to see the 12, because he had heard of em, never shot, never seen one in person. I said sure. Anyways boy gets up on the .06, and plugs away a group that was impressive for the first time bolt shooting and a rifle that size. (Insert proud dad moment). broke out the 11707, shot a magazine (spring cut worked beautifully for the 7 round). Loaded another and brought the boy to the table. RSO must have been eyeballing, didn’t have to call him over. Boy took it like a champ for three rounds, and was understandably done (Insert Shit Eating grin proud dad moment here). Oh and he was headshot three for three. First time 15 yards, stock ghost ring. Looked at the RSO, and he had a huge smile with a thumbs up. So I reloaded, and put another box on the bench. Told him - all yours. Without a word, jumped in and off to races. When he was done, he was pissed (jokingly) that I just made him spend 1800 on a new shotgun. Gave me some thanks, and off to pay attention to the others. We were about out of range time, and I was going to go get some more (kid was havin a ball). RSO walked up and said next hour on me. So, we let the boy shoot some more .06, and 10/22 and let the RSO put some more downrange With the 12. All he could talk about was how smooth and accurate it was. All in all, three people had a great day with one gun, and probably will have a new member in short order. Lol

  3. Brownells has a decent set of drivers with fixed handles and wood storage blocks. They even have brass name plates they custom make for you. Such as my daughter got me the set for one Father’s Day. Brownells also has their Magnabit set which has a lot more bits. I bought four of their derlin organizers so I could spread out the collections of 1/4 bits and organize them a little better and add to the collection. The driver handle options Magnabit has are really nice. The bits will fit into torque drivers. Seekonk makes excellent dial indicator torque wrenches of various torque ranges in the 1/4 size.

  7. I had my m4 entry threaded for chokes by briley so its the same pattern as my full size m4 not rem chokes. I did it because I wanted to be able mount my salvo. I think it was a $150 and I have absolutley no regrets.

  9. I bought my 1014 just because it DIDN'T have a stupid choke. Sold my choked M4 the very next week. ?

  11. I’d ask around here if anyone wants to trade barrels. Some prefer the fixed choke as one less part that can fail. From time to time you see barrels for sale on auction sites for around 400 with the gas system. Buying that vs getting the machine work done might be a better option. I personally don’t change the choke in my M4. It works well for buck and slugs. The only time I put birdshot thru it is just to test low dram loads or to screw around.

  12. That's pretty helpful to me, who like the member who posted the question, sometimes I get caught up in the "too many choices" thing. I'm figuring I'll just go order the M4 Barrel that comes with the Modified Choke for about $600 or so and then I'll have factory options, since all M4 barrels will fit all M4's and M41014'S, and I won't have any compliance or functioning issues. And I'll save on that other $1800 for the full M4 Tactical? I'll be around $1200 in the plus??? Well, sort of???

  13. If you take a new barrel and cut it for chokes, the cut area loses the chrome lining. And you can't re line the barrel to the same factory standards, especially with the gas block... I honestly think you are over thinking this. The M4 ships with one threaded choke, the M1014 nothing at all; one barrel length*. You are better off buying better ammo. Feed it shit-tier ammo; you will get shit patterns. Federal flightcontrol wad is pretty much the best for buckshot. Having owned both guns, I prefer the barrel without chokes. *excluding 14" NFA and European 19.5"

  14. I finally got around to testing these reducer out. No function issues were experienced even with weak valuepack 7.5 birdshot. It’s benefit was noticeable when firing slugs. I’d guess it cuts 15% or perceived recoil. We have a regular M4 to compare directly against which had similar modifications as mine. Ie: NP3 plated internal parts, Limbsaver buttpad. Same optic and light load out. Same carbon fiber magazine tube. I’ll need to play with the different spring weights a little to see if I can milk anymore performance out of the unit.

  15. My husband got his Winchester Shotgun out for opening day of Dove season in 2 days. The stock was so sticky you could hardly let go of it. I read your post and thought I'd try the paste of baking soda and water because he planned to buy Camo tape to cover it when he gets home. It worked really well. Took a little elbow grease but came off. I called and told him I had cleaned it and he was so excited.....That's just the kinda wifey I am!

  16. IMHO, all GG&G parts are inferior. I had one of their bolt handles break off during cycling.
