I'd go with 6's if using hevi-shot. For decoying birds, the choke selection sounds good. My setup depends on the wind direction and speed, the location of the blind (if hunting from one), and what's in season. There are a number of variables to be considered when arranging decoys. What appears to us to be random in nature is rarely random to the brids. http://www.ducks.org/Hunting/Decoys/111/DecoyLandingPage.html

You will have no problems with hunting loads as long as they meet or exceed the specified minimum of 3 drams - 1-1/8 ounce in either gun. The spec. is the same for all Benelli 12 ga. guns, with no distinction made for 3.5". If you want to shoot anything lighter than that you should probably consider a gas gun. As for the differences between the SBEII and M2, other than the 3" vs 3.5", there are several. The SBEII's design lends itself to much easier disassembly and cleaning. The barrel extension makes up the top half of the receiver, so when the barrel is removed the receiver opens up for easy access and cleaning. The SBEII can be disassembled for general cleaning by hand in about a minute. The gun will also have a higher resale value, due to its 3.5" chamber and general reputation. If the money's not a factor, and you're going to stay within the manufacturer's specs on loads, the SBEII is the best choice. Before these forums were redone and got goofy, you could search for SBEII vs M2 and find some good discussions, as it's all been done here before. Now, you're lucky if you can find anything in the search. It rejects a search string if there are words shorter than four characters. A truly brilliant move for a company whose flagship models are SBE, M1, M4 and the like

You won't wear it out anytime soon. If it's patterning well for you, shoot it!

You should always wingshoot with both eyes opened, but your head should be down. It sounds to me like you are an instictive shooter, but you just need a little polishing. The sight picture should be that you're seeing some rib and the front bead whould be just on top of the mid bead, forming a figure 8. Your target should be fully visible just above the two beads. Also practice mounting the gun fluidly and swinging through the target instead of stopping the swing when you pull the trigger. You can find more helpful tips here. http://americangundog.com/straightshooting.html

Benelli does not have anything other than the various recoil pads. 14-3/8" is their longest. It would have to be a custom job to get you to where you want to be. Shaq?

True. These days he'd probably get ten years added on to his sentence for designing gun parts, especially something to make one cycle more rounds in x amount of time.

Carbine Williams "His floating chamber was used in one of the most popular American .22 semi-automatic rifles, the Remington 550-A. Later, in 1954, the Winchester Model 50 Automatic shotgun was launched. This, too, featured the Williams Chamber, making it the first semi-automatic shotgun with a non-recoiling barrel. Take a look at the U.S. patents for the highly successful Benelli Shotgun (U.S No. 4,604,942) and you will see Williams' Patent No. 2,476,323 cited."

Great to see you back, old friend! As always, your expertise is much needed and appreciated.

To be honest, I think the formula is very close to the same thing as Breakfree. I also use it on the synthetics. The effect is similar to Armour All, but not as shiny or slippery. Apply liberally and let it soak in, then buff it down with a clean lint-free cloth. It takes out the light spots caused by mud and dirt. I cleaned a friend's SBEI for a couple of years ago and he thought I'd replaced the plastics

There has to be a reason that the extension is causing the action to bind. It could be slightly misaligned and causing undue torque on the action bars. You need to determine where it's sticking. Is the fired shell sticking in the chamber, or is the action binding somwehere? When it sticks again, rather than completely removing the extension, loosen the mag cap just a bit and see if it breaks loose. If it does, I'd say that the magazine extension isn't straitght and true. You should also make sure the chamber is clean and smooth on the inside so the fired case has nothing to bind against.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

mudhen, Is there any reason the kit I linked to would not work in the SBE1 and allow him to change the cast? http://www.e-gunparts.com/DisplayAd.asp?chrProductSKU=979480&chrSuperSKU=&MC=
-
Thought that may be the case, but I wasn't sure since I've never had a SBEI. I think the linked kit will put you on the right track. Mudhen may also be able to help you in more detail. He's had much more experience with the earlier SBE's. Glad to help. Just snug the nut up until the stock no longer moves against the receiver and you should be good to go. Overtightening will deflect the plate and undertightening will leave the stock too loose.

Check your manual, but I believe the cast is changed the same way as the SBEII. Flip the locking plate (steel) and the drop shims. Click Here Manuals Here

Found out a little bit more about it. This was quickest, cheapest, easiest spot for them to to what was needed to keep the government happy. Quoting the local paper - "For less than $200,000, some of the funding coming from government grants, Dominion Power was able to meet a natural habitat requirement of its re-licensing agreement with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. And, without much intervention aside from the occasional draining of the property - or flooding if necessary - this newly dried grassland should attract the intended waterfowl during migratory seasons." Sorry about the hijack, webfoot. Please post more pics!!

The obvious problem with buying them online is the shipping. In addition to the weight causing the shipping to cost more than the targets, they break easily and UPS's multiple handlings would break quite a few. If Wal-Mart won't stock them then try a True Value of Ace hardware store. They can order them for you.

Exactly! When I switched to my SBEII, after over 20 years of pumping, I nearly ripped the forearm off the thing after the first shot Finally got re-trained.

When I was fourteen, I dove hunted with a single barrel 20 ga. I kept the second round in my teeth and I got several doubles. When I was 15, I got my first 870. I won several bets by ripping three rounds through her faster than my buddies could do with there semi-auto Remingtons. Besides, the limit's just 12, right?

The doves won't know the difference . I wouldn't use a full choke unless they're hig-flying pass shots though. IC or Modified for swarming doves.
