Cant has everything to do with whether you shoot right-handed or left-handed. These shims and their installation have been discussed here many, many times. Use the search feature and find the information, or follow the instructions in the manual. As others have suggested, there are many variables which can affect the POA/POI relationship. Most of them lie with the shooter, how he shoulders the gun, sights the gun, and fires the gun.

CS is Customer Service. They are in Maryland, not Italy. If you can't get the gun to shoot straight, and Sportsmans Warehouse can, then you've still got a problem. This is why they want to send it back to Benelli. Honestly, at this point is sounds as though you have little chance of being happy with the gun. Sell it or trade it and move on.

Don't know about Merriam's, but the eEastern gobblers are blacker and shinier looking than are the hens. I assume the hens are dull in order to conceal nesting locations.

Nitro, Have you not learned anything from this discussion? You watch the news and read the papers for the next three days, so you know everything there is to know about who the shooter is, what weapons he uses, their calibers and capacities, which classrooms in which buldings he goes for, the color of his socks, whether he's left-handed or right-handed, how much ammo he has, what kind of ammo it is, where he's been for the two hours since the previous shootings, his direction and speed of travel the fact that he's only had guns for a short amount of time and the fact that he's trying to shoot everyone in sight at random, not just select targets. THEN, from the coziness of your own home, while typing on the Internet, you can decide the best plan of action without all of the pressure of an unimaginably intense and stressful situation. I don't know why you, lt, and myself haven't figured that out yet?

EVERY major news outlet has published the fact that these two guns were used. The rest of the comments are ignored.

We get afternoons after the first couple of weeks. Heard gobblers all over the place this AM. Had one come in, but he hung up at about 40 yards, and I'm not going to take that shot and risk wounding a bird. Two jakes almost stepped on me, but jakes get a free pass.

Never heard of it happening in an R1. Was the primer dented at all?

Pictures would be good.

Hundreds of people do what people do when they hear gunshots. They haul it in the other direction. That's about all the instinct we humans have. It's not very sharp, because most of us go for entire lifetime without experiencing much more than a playground wrestle or two. The instinct is self-preservation by getting as far away from the danger as possible. As I understand it, most of the victims were trapped inside classrooms with no cover and with the shooter blocking the only exit. This short-cicuited the flight instinct and I imagine most of them either froze in their tracks or dove to the floor, hoping that it would stop as abruptly as it had begun. In a twisted way, the shooter was the only one in there who knew exactly what he was doing. He had rehearsed it over and over again in his demented mind until it had become like a video game to him. He was completely detached from any moral compass or conscience. As for the two hours elapsed, I think the full investigation will yield that some things could have been handled better, but there a few things to keep in mind. The campus is open and sprawling, 2600 acres with many ways in and out. It is not a fort and it is not intended to be. With over 35,000 students, teachers, staff, and visitors, the campus is a pretty good sized city. You can't simply close a door or two and call it secured. You can't immediately notify 35,000 people that there is grave danger. As a young student yourself, I'm sure you're running through your own mind how this would play out at your school. I suggest that you channel that energy into something positive in your own school and community. Ask your parents, school officials, and community leaders how they are prepared to handle something like this. Look beyond the obvious stuff and ask about communications, emergency response systems and their ETA's. Ask about self-defense training and crisis management training for your schools. Hold them to task and don't let them shrug you off. Ask about how you should react to other students who speak of violent acts or who do things that are unsettling to you, but keep in mind that we all must have our rights to privacy as well. Start a program in your school that brings students from all scholastic, social, and economic levels together in some way so that they may learn about each other, and learn to respect each other. I've read your posts and we've traded some PM's. You are an exceptionally intelligent and articulate young man. Don't use up all of that talent yacking with old geezers on forums . Spread it around a little.

Please don't dishonor these kids by second-guessing their reactions or lack thereof. These were kids who have probably never even been in a heavy argument, much less any kind of physical conflict. Armchair QB'ing is pretty easy stuff when you've got all the time in the world to view the news reports and to digest exactly what was going on in those classrooms. I'm sure if the students had gotten a script, they could have done better. These kids didn't have that luxury. They went from another sedate and normal day at school to utter chaos and armageddon under fire in a matter of a few seconds. Without intensive military or police training, I dare say that any of us would have done much better than covering our heads and ducking for whatever cover was available. Don't believe me? Think you're better than that? BS! Look at some of those videos where the cops get into shootouts on routine traffic stops. I've seen trained LE empty an entire clip and not even hit the assailant. In some cases, they don't even hit the car he's driving. You guys watch WAY too much tv.

sonyman is correct, but I wonder if you're checking for plugs? The drilled and tapped holes are fitted with hard plastic plugs to protect the threads. Typically they can be pushed out from the inside of the receiver. Any sign of anything like that?

That's a tough one. As soon as I get setup, I always give the bolt a visual check and then firmly try to force it forward to make sure it's locked. Never had a click from my Benelli on a turkey and only a couple otherwise. Mine got hung up behind a couple blowdowns this morning at 60 yards out. Too close for me to relocate and he was too dumb (or smart?) to go around the obstacles. Gobbled and strutted just out of sight for an hour and a half.

My thoughts and prayer go out to the victims, their families, friends and relatives.

Pictures? I want some video! Congrats!

I've been waterfowling for 30 years, so I suppose it's just kind of ingrained knowledge. The Flyway Councils meet each year and make their recommendations each year to the states in the various flyways. The states can and usually do adopt those recommendations, but they are free to make their own limits and laws. http://www.dgif.state.va.us/hunting/regulations/waterfowl.asp

Briley should be able to do it.

Not sure about NY, but here an unlisted species goes towards a general bag limit. For instance, if the limit is 6 birds per day, then we can take 6 unlisted birds or any combination of unlisted and listed birds. We could shoot 6 gadwalls and make a full limit. We could shoot 4 gadwalls and two mallards (nly one of which could be a hen).

Why do I have this odd feeling that this isn't the first time you've said that?

The barrel should fit. The slug barrels are listed as fitting both SBE and SBEII. Call CS to confirm. I don't believe it will come with choke tubes, but check with the dealer or CS to be sure.

I'm very much aware that the parts manuals are available on the Italian site. I have linked to them many times trying to help other members who couldn't find them. The point of this post was to draw attention to the fact that they are not on the BenelliUSA site and that no manuals are available for any of the other brands.

The Nova's safety is a bit tricky. If I recall correctly the safety employs a detent and spring that are loaded beneath the crossbolt, like the R1. Hopefully Brownells' kit will explain a clever way of depressing the detent and removing the crossbolt. When I did the one I had (my first Benelli), I cursed some engineers serverly. It can be done by a comptetent home smith, but it's no picnic.

Floriduh, land of the old, home of the Cuban! Go play with a dangling chad or something.

While there are a few owner's manuals now on the Benelli site, there are still no parts manuals. Franchi, Uberti, and Stoeger manuals are still "coming soon", just as they've been for the last three years. C'mon Benelli, et al. It can't possibly be that hard to PDF these things and get 'em uploaded! Either remove the "coming soon" BS teaser or get the darned things posted! /rant off
