  1. It's 10 PM, September 16... and it's 81 degrees. The next 10 days show no relief in sight. This is NOT goose hunting weather
  2. SBEII holds 3 2.75" shells in the magazine without the plug.
  3. Not what you're looking for, but Sure Cycle makes a 6 shot (3.5" shells) extension. Mack's Prarie Wings and others have them in stock. ~$90

    TIKKA T3

rch, As I understand it, the Tikka T3's match the Sako's in mechanics and function. Made by the same folks in the same factory. If I couldn't do any better than hitting a bird at 250, I'd sell my Savage immediately. Prairie dogs at 1,000 yds. are not all that uncommon
  5. If the weapon performed well on the range, then it should perform well in the field. It's just a bit flashy for many to consider it as a serious field gun, but the game will not the difference between being shot with one or the other.
  6. NRA Guide to State Gun Laws It's pretty much the same everywhere regarding Interstate transfers. The transfer has to go FFL to FFL. Then the dealer in your state will take care of the registrations, applications, x-rays, or whatever else your state requires for the purchase of the firearm. AuctionArms.com and Gunbroker.com have links to help you find transfer dealers in your state. [ 09-13-2005, 11:28 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]
  7. lfharch, This is truly a weakness in Benelli's system. Horror stories have been told of guns being on order for months and months. I always recommend getting the dealer to commit to a deadline before placing the order. If he doesn't come through by an agreed upon date, then you receive a full refund of any deposit or payment. I further recommend finding the gun in stock somewhere to begin with, rather than placing an order. When I bought my LH SBEII last year I called maybe 20 dealers before striking gold. I drove 350 miles round trip, but I had my gun in hand the same day. You may also want to check on GunsAmerica.com. There are a couple of camo (Max-4 and Timber) LH 28's on there at this very moment. Search for "Benelli LH" and again for "Benelli left" At a glance, the best price seems to be $1399. [ 09-13-2005, 11:05 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]
  8. Webfoot, I use 3.5" exclusively on geese and turkeys. I'll also use 3.5" on late season high-flying ducks on big water.

    Benelli o/u?

  10. Steve, Great looking stuff. Here are a couple of add-ons I'd find handy

    M2

You should go up two sizes if going from lead to steel. Lead alternatives, such as bismuth or tungsten-iron are OK to match lead sizes. Many wingshooters prefer the 28" for a smoother swing through the target. It's hard to say exactly what size shot you'll need, without knowing more about your setup. Are the ducks large like mallards, or smaller like teal? For larger ducks over decoys, I like 2's and 3's in steel or 4's and 6's in lead. For longer shots, drop each number by one. For lead, add a number to each. Getting back our self-defense comment - I'd rather be tried in a court of law than buried in a courtyard of headstones.

Are you allowed to use lead shot for waterfowl?
  13. If that were a 30-06, there may have been a sale.
  14. Follow his profile icon. You'll find them
  15. The R1 will string as it heats, mostly because of the attachment to the gas system and the lightweight sporter contour. Yeah, I know the doctor was being antagonistic, but I couldn't resist editing the picture for him If he's a proctologist, he's surely his own biggest patient Yes, the Savage was a varmint contoured fluted barrel. I'm still getting used to her, and even though I did allow about 90 seconds cooling between rounds, it was pretty warm that day. Can't wait for one of those low dewpoint, crisp Fall days. I also just ordered dies for the 22-250, so I'm eager to begin working up a pet load for her. If shoots like this with factory ammo, great things may be in the near future.
  16. Let me add. It would probably take on no more or no less water than a non-comfortech stock.
  17. It will work as an emergency boat paddle, but it will let water in, and it will need to be drained, dried, and re-oiled. It's simply not meant to be submersible. If mine went under, I'd do a full disassembly, drying, cleaning, oiling.
  18. I like using a silhouette of my intended target, superimposed on a background at least twice it's size. Kraft paper, poster board, etc. make good backgrounds. Shoot at the average distance which you intend to take game.
  19. Our first outing this year was Saturday AM. We have two blinds in an old fish hatchery. We decided to set up in the lower blind. Shortly after legal shooting, about 150 Canadas starting getting up from the area of our upper blind, hooked over the adjoining woodline, and were gone We went back Saturday evening, expecting them to return to their roosting spot. Nothing. I guess a bit more scouting is in order Didn't see any snakes, but there were plenty of wasps in the upper blind. WD-40 is a lousy gun oil, but it makes a great wasp spray! 20. My apologies. I have changed the picture above. The recoil spring is part 36A. There is no spring in the stock. I believe the best way to get the M3 to cyle light loads would be to switch to manual operation and use as a pump gun.
  21. The locking cap seems to settle in after 20-40 rounds, but you are doing the right thing by keeping the same torque on it. I believe min is also at three clicks past the red marks now. I don't think it's anything Benelli designed or intended to be that way. It's just a matter of the various parts settling in after some firing.
  22. If you think you're going to have go into water deeper than your knees, then you'll need waders. Waders are a biatch for long walks, so hip boots would be a better choice as long as they meet the depth needs OK. I like the uninsulated cordura boot foot waders for warm weather and the insulated neoprene boot foot for when it gets below 40. Both of mine came from ebay , but Cabelas has a great selection and their prices are decent. I've never had any problems with their Cabelas Brand in other clothing, and I expect their waders to be of the same good quality. I always buy mine a half size larger than nornmal to allow for heavy socks. Also make sure you get suspenders and a belt.
