  1. greeeeeeaaaaaattttttttttttttttt The shift key is apparently broken and most of your other keys stick. Stop spending so much money on shotguns and buy a new keyboard already!
  2. I'd say you did OK. The Glock in 40cal was one of the finalists in my search. I ended up with a SigSauer P226 which i am happy with. From your photo it does not look like you have the newer version with the integral rail. I'm not sure how you would mount a flashlight. I have read rumors on some of the Glock pistol blogs that some models do not like light mounts and will cycle erratically when one is mounted. One poster insisted the cycling problem persisted even after removing the light. It was a Glock brand light and mount. They did say it appeared to be a rare problem with specific pistols and a quick trip back to Glock resolved the problem. Take this info with a grain of salt but it probably warrants further research. I have the Tritium night sights on my Sig and that is probably the best upgrade in my opinion. I'm considering a light and laser as well. Laser preference is currently Crimson Trace. I looked at the Lasermax Guide Rod lasers at a recent gun show and several vendors waved me off. That may be a make and model specific recommendation. On Sigs the Guide Rods seem to be praised on the 226 but plagued by problems on the 229. What convinced me against the guide rod style was one vendor that said; "if the Crimson Trace Laser breaks you still have a great set of grips, if the guide rod laser breaks you'll need to remove the slide with a hammer!" The TLR1(Light Only) & TLR2 (Laser + Light) from Streamlight appear to be popular choices for Sigs.
  3. Your description of the retainer was spot on. It was quite a bit stiffer than a plain snap ring. I purchased some cheap snap ring pliers from Autozone and ended up returning them. The jaws were so loose they would twist before compressing the sleeve. You need a pretty beefy set of snap ring pliers to install it. It was super easy with a heavy duty set from Sears. I borrowed a nice heat gun from a friend at work. It was adjustable with a thermostat. It did take quite a bit of heat. It wouldn't break loose at 400 degrees after 10 minutes. I cranked it up to 800 degrees and it softened up after about 5 more minutes of heat. There was a lot of thread lock compound on mine. It was like toothpaste when it finally softened up. Fortunately most of the junk stayed on the magazine tube. The internal threads brushed clean with no acetone or solvent. I think the most challenging thing was installing the new spring. It is difficult to compress into the tube and got away from me once or twice. It was easier to install the snap ring sleeve first, place the follower in the receiver body, compress the spring into the tube, and then screw the tube & spring assembly into the receiver. It is pretty easy to mate up the follower into the tube. I can see why some people skipped the snap ring sleeve and just use the threaded cap to hold in spring. I have full lenght mag tube joy now!
  4. I just received my Ti tube from Kip but I haven't installed it yet. Just this evening I find this during my Internet surfing: http://www.briley.com/benellisuper9067shotextensiontubewithpicatinnyrail.aspx (Tried to post a pic but couldn.t get it to copy) It's a two round extension tube with an integral Picatinny rail. That sucker would have solved a bunch of problems for a reasonable price!
  5. I subscribed to American Handgunner and both their 2008 and 2009 Buyers Guide have a picture of an M4 with a collapsible stock and a full length tube. I have never seen a Benelli full length tube advertised. The photos most likely came from Benelli so there may have been some early prototypes that never got imported.
  6. A Mossberg 500 with the paint polished off and sent off to Things Remembered at the local mall for engraving?? Is this a new acquisition or are you posting photos of the same guns over and over? Seriously, how many do you own?

    New M4 issue

I honestly cannot remember if mine was installed or not. I think it was loose, as the gun was broke down to fit in the box. I'm wondering if someone released the bolt with the barrel detached and the bolt handle slammed into the front of the receiver. Is it sticking straight out at 90 degrees or is it swept back a bit? You might try knocking it around a bit with a non-marring hammer, wooden handle, or something else that will not mar the finish. If you bought it new can you take it back to the dealer before you start wailing on it? I know they can be hard to pull out but I think they should spin.
  8. Not really a criticism but more of a request for confirmation; there is no snap ring groove on Kip's magazine tube. Granted I have not taken apart my factory tube yet but I had imagined there would be a snap ring retainer at the end of the tube to retain the spring and follower. It appears the barrel nut is the only retention device and that the spring will pop free every time you disassemble the gun. Is this correct?

Does it rotate freely? Mine is definitely snug and requires a pretty good pull while twisting. It looks like a common problem and there are several posts in this forum listing tips and tricks to get it to come out.
  10. Ti Tube arrived today unannounced. I received no email confirmations or tracking number. Kip shipped it on 9/26 via Priority Mail insured. The finish is flawless and the overall workmanship is absolutely excellent. I do not have a heatgun to release the factory tube yet (will pick one up or borrow one next weekend). I did try the Benelli nut on the threads and the fit is perfect. Leave it to Benelli to use a really strange, square shoulder thread. Reminded me of guys that used to work on old English sports cars and had to deal with Left Handed Whitworth threads on some of the parts. The finish was an excellent match to the factory black. It is almost imperceptibly lighter than the Benelli barrel but still a better match than my factory mag tube. I can't imagine there will be any disappointment when I get it mounted. Kip did warn me on the phone to remind you guys there is a front end to it. The thread is the same on both ends so it will screw in backwards but, the barrel will not snug down when the nut is tightened if you accidentally install it that way. I will be buying his other accessories as they become available.
  11. That does explain one scenario that never jibed with my previous understanding. I remember a warning about bracing against a tree to steady your shot. Based on your info, the tree would arrest any rearward motion and render the action stationary and cause a failure. Placing your shoulder between a 12ga shotgun and an immovable object does not sound very comfortable to me but I can definitely picture the situation. Thanks for the physics lesson:o
  12. My local gun dealer sold me on the M4 based on the gas system. He said that the M2 and other Inertia Drive models required the butt stock to be placed firmly against the body when fired or they may not cycle reliably. The M4 is gas operated and I can vouch that it will cycle reliably when fired from a variety of awkward, unsupported positions. You can fire off shoulder using the pistol grip with no problem. I even tried "limp wristing" it to force a failure to feed with low recoil rounds but could not induce a failure. If you are familiar with semi-auto pistols you will know that if you hold it too loosely you can soak up enough of the recoil to prevent the action from cycling. The M2 and other Inertia Drive models allegedly suffer from this problem although I cannot give you any firsthand experience on this. Hopefully one of the M2 guys can confirm or debunk this theory. As a home defense gun I could picture numerous scenarios where you may need to take a shot without getting the gun firmly planted against the shoulder.
  13. Nothing yet. I ordered through gunbroker.com on July 9th. I called him on September 14th and sent payment via PayPal. No confirmation, no shipment notice yet.
  14. Looks like the barrel fell off the one on the bottom. Might want to try some duct tape if that's a common problem with those guns. I understand why you don't shoot them now. It's really embarrassing if the barrel falls off at the range.

    M2 Button Mod

The really cool part is that now you have the button drilled and tapped, what you attach to it can be easily changed on a whim. When you get around to reshaping and texturing the oversize button you can post more photos of the refinements as you act on any suggestions. Speaking personally I would like to see an orange jack'o'lantern or skull button for Halloween. Wait! I know the perfect bolt release button...mount a small Obama campaign button to it for the next Town Hall meeting!
  16. Consider the fine print that AbleAmmo does not necessarily have them in stock. Please Note: This item may ship to us directly from the manufacturer and there may be a delay for delivery. It looks like the Benelli part number and no one else shows stock available. You may order it and find out its not available anyway. I'd have to agree that a second gun is the best option.
  17. Time for some comic relief! A woman goes into a sporting goods store to buy a rifle. "It's for my husband," she tells the clerk. "Did he tell you what gauge to get?" asked the clerk. "Are you kidding?" she says. "He doesn't even know that I'm going to shoot him!"
  18. I just posted an update on the "Where's Kip" thread. The next batch is shipping out this week. He still has a significant backlog. See the other post.
  19. Ha! Now you are truly screwed! If you dare show your gun in public without the ATF approved "Interregnal Pistol Grip" they'll put you away for ten long years. Unfortunately for you "Interregnal" is a real word. It means; "any period during which a state has no ruler or only a temporary executive." The ATF has reduced it to writing giving it the force of law! This is getting really creepy now. Is the ATF trying to send us coded messages? Are they in fact disputing the legitamacy of Obama? Is America currently in an Interregnal period? Is it possible that they are telling us that any shotgun with a pistol grip purchased since the sham inauguration is somehow different that those purchased earlier. Is it only a coincidence that the new Dan Brown Novel "The Lost Symbol" was released last night at midnight. Is it significant that midnight is neither AM or PM?? Where IS my tinfoil hat??

    Where's Kip???

I spoke to kip this afternoon. The next batch of magazine tubes will be shipping later this week, scheduled to go out on Thursday. He is making progress on the backlog and is down to about 40-50 tubes still on backorder. He is processing them in the order received. He will not completely catch up for another 3-4 weeks. I used to be a machinist and spoke to him at length about his production process. He still refuses to send out any of the work for the sake of catching up. He is very demanding of quality and holds very tight tolerences. It is evident he takes great pride in the quality of his work and is unwilling to sacrifice that for speed. He had said in previous posts he uses CNC (computer numerical control) machines to produce the mag tubes. I am familiar with CNC turning centers and often wondered at his apparently slow pace of production. The machines I ran could have knocked off a completed mag tube in about 15 minutes. Kip relies on CNC for the threads and part of the profile. However, he does not use self centering chucks or other jigs and fixtures to speed up setup. He still meticulously centers and adjusts each cut manually to ensure tight tolerences. The threads are taped to prevent marring. There is close to two hours of machine work in each tube. As a side business it consumes a great deal of time. The Obama election fueled hi-cap magazine ordering frenzy has been tapering off so hopefully he can catch up and resume a normal production schedule. The muzzle brakes and Picatinny rails were put on hold while he caught up with the mag tube orders. His rational was that people had already commited and paid money for the mag tubes. To shift any resources to new products would just put him farther behind and further grate on customers nerves. The rails are still awaiting tooling to complete the bottom profile. The first batch of muzzle brakes is machined and ready to finish. He will send all the components out in one batch to the anodizer when the rails are done. No firm date on those but obviously after the mags are completely caught up. Kip is excited about a new type of finish for the proposed bolt charger handles. The process is in the early stages but the finish on the knurled titanium was a concern of his. You cannot anodize titanium and the cerekote finish would not be suitable for the knurled finish. He believes he has a working, high tech solution to that problem. Good to think ahead on things like that. And thats the news.
  22. The first Jewish president calls up his mother and invites her over for Passover. Characteristically, his mother immediately begins complaining. "Oiy, I'll need to book a flight and it's going to cost so much - it is just too much of a bother." Her son counters, "Mom! I'm the President! I'll have AirForce 1 fly you here! "Oiy, I'll need to catch a taxi and carry my luggage. It's just too much!" "Mom! I'm the President! I'll pick you up in the presidential limo! Then my Secret Service detail will carry your luggage for you!" "Oiy, I'll need to book a hotel." "Mom! Don't be ridiculous! I'm the President! You can stay at the White House in the Lincoln Bedroom!" "Okay, fine," she finally acquiesces. Two minutes later her friend Sophie, calls. "So, Miriam, what's new?" "Oiy, I'm going to my son for Pesach." "Who, the doctor?" "No, the other one."
  23. I do like the optional rail mount. It goes at the end of the fore grip. This is the concept I would like to find for the M4 shotgun. Surefire M80 replacement grips are completely covered by the rails and don't look too comfortable. I only want a short one at the front for a flashlight. The nicest mount I've seen so far is the SideArmor rail but it is a bit pricey just to stick a flashlight on.
  24. "Just as a Democratic president doesn't spell disaster for pro-gunners, a Republican one doesn't guarantee the preservation of our rights." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-burnett/the-nra-should-support-ob_b_110887.html Obama is fulfilling the role of distracting the world from some very bad things that happened under the previous administration. The semantic reclassification of "combatants" to "detainees", repudiation of international law, and condoning torture do not make me feel either safe or proud to be an American. If you are looking for the jack booted storm troopers they are already here. If you are not careful what you write in a public forum they may pay you a visit as a "person of interest". I sincerely hope (the regular kind of hope not the party line HOPE) the election sent a message to the rest of the world that we are capable of change. I also hope (ibid) that the Republicans can provide better candidates in the next election. I for one at least like to have a choice.
