  1. I was one click away from ordering some 30rd mags for a Ruger Mini14 today. The Ohio legislature introduced a bill this week to circumvent ATF. It is trying to protect guns manufactured in Ohio, sold to Ohio citizens, that remain in Ohio. The rational is no Interstate commerce, no Federal regulation. I'm taking it as a signal the Ohio legistlature is anticipating additional federal regulation in the near future. I don't own a rifle yet but plan on purchasing a few hi-cap mags for a Ruger and some quality AR-15 mags as well. I was looking at AR-15 receivers this past weekend but am undecided. I want to see the Benelli MR1 before i commit. Mags just seem like a safe investment.

    my good side

Looks like they are getting acclimated to the outside. One step closer to the range. Go ahead, think of it as taking the kids to the playground.
  3. Unobtanium, if TSHTF can we all claim that YOU installed our mag tubes?
  4. I inquired at three local gun shops and a friend at the Sheriff's Department about the 922® import restrictions and they all looked at me like I was crazy. One of the gun shop guys said it should be a USA made part just to be safe(?). I suspect nobody cares but us.
  5. I left my M4 under my bed with a Ti tube next to it. Late at night the Benelli elves visited and installed the tube. If you listen late at night you can almost hear their little heat guns and tiny gunsmithing tools working away all across the country installing mag tubes for good little children so they are never in violation of any import bans, except commiefornia where the evil anti-gun fairies rule! Strange rules here in Ohio regarding high capacity magazines and switch blade knives. I can apparently legally buy them but am forbidden to carry or use them. Ohio considers a gun with more than 32 round capacity to be an automatic weapon regardless of the gun design. And automatic weapons are considered "Dangerous Weapons" and no Ohio citizen can posess a "Dangerous Weapon". Mini14's are OK, 100 round C-Mags are OK, Mini14 with a 100 round C-Mag installed = Automatic Weapon = Not OK. The knives can be used by the Handicapped or amputees that cannot open a regular knife. That means every gun shop has a nice selection. No doctor's note is required, just pretend to be a bit gimpy at the counter and hand over your cash.
  6. I gave up on finding a flashlight mount. I just wrap the end of the muzzle in flaming gasoline soaked rags and use a pie plate as a reflector. Now I'm good to go for Frankenstein monsters as well as Zombies!
  7. Looks fishy to me. My guess is its aluminum. If you follow the links you can find a second page that describes an aluminum charging handle knob that fits over the stock Benelli handle. Its just a knurled sleeve that fits over the stock knob and is attached with a set screw. The photos on the two pages definitely show two different designs; one is the set screw attached sleeve knob, the other appears to be a complete unit. However, it still looks like aluminum to me. I'll wait for Kip too. http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=64616277&blogId=506360257
  8. Is that what all the fuss is about. Why my M4 could shoot those things out of the air with slugs....yeah that's the ticket.
  9. Did you try the special Home Defense ammo that spreads out into a huge cone of death at short range?? Check the other threads on the forum for posts on how you do not have to aim a shotgun in the house. Maybe you should try shooting clays indoors next time.
  10. Yeah...it's apparently an 11707. It is the last half of the UPC number. I didn't look there because it doesn't make sense for an M1014. Letters don't map to a UPC code. Is the buffer tube still random if you purchased with a fixed stock? I understand if you purchased it with a collapsible stock it should have one of the buffer tubes that allow it to collapse. If it came from the factory with a fixed stock one would expect it to come with a non-collapsible buffer tube. I was wondering if they had started shipping solely with the non-collapsible tubes recently or are the pics that have been posted lately from a variety of Benelli guns?
  11. I plan on trying mine. I did ask at the trap range and the only bummer is they only allow one round to be loaded at a time. Visions of emptying my full length magazine at a single, helpless clay target have been dashed:(
  12. I'm still confused. I bought an M4 at Gander Mountain. I can find no reference to M1014 or 11707 anywhere on the gun or on the box labels. Mine has the solid stock but disassembly revealed the grooved buffer tube for the collapsible stock. It also has a screw in choke. Are they no longer shipping in this configuration or is the issue of the buffer tube a crap shoot at this point? I don't see how you can know what you are buying without removing the stock and verifying which buffer tube it shipped with.
  13. A few months ago several members sent off letters to the ATF to get a confirmed parts count. We had previously seen 11, 13, and 15 parts enumerated on letters. Has any of the recent batch of letters received a response? I had suggested sending a copy of the letter that was posted claiming 11 parts and requesting confirmation. Have the ATF responses been consistent?
  14. I think I know your girlfriend: Oddly enough I don't think the bayonette or grenade launcher is too much...but the front sight seems superfluous. If it was an M4 with a collapsible stock... would her name be Eileen???

    with or without

Sorry, I didn't realize there was gold engraving on the receiver from the first two photos. My earlier preference for black anodized or Cerecote did not take that into account. The full length photo really does show off the gold tones and does add balance to the overall effect. I definitely vote WITH.

    with or without

I vote with. Although I must confess I would like it better black anodized or Cerecoted IMHO.
  17. Crappy phone photo but these are the WinLite slugs at 75' resting my elbows on the lane rail. First time out with slugs. I'm still learning and practicing. This is the main reason I am a Benelli fan, the gun feels like it shoots itself. I think I put about 300 rounds through my M4 so far. These are obviously not the shots I took holding it loosely at the hip.
  18. Mine did fine with the WinLites and I intentionally limp wristed it. I shot it from the hip holding it as loosely as I could (safe and controlled of course) letting it push back freely. It cycled every round that way. I honestly could not induce a failure. I also tried some low recoil buckshot with the same results. No failures even on the intentional wimpy hold. I have put about 300 rounds of heavy upland bird loads through it first though. Unobtanium, what was your failure mode? Does the round eject and fail to feed from the magazine?
  19. It's Deja Vu all over again! We don't go to the range and shoot the same slugs and pellets over and over. If you insist on shooting with your camera instead of your gun... its time to reload. Personally, I'd like to see a series of photos like those concrete geese and garden gnomes had. A "where in the world" are M1014's Engraved Benellis. Maybe disguise them with Mossberg or Remington hangtags and stickers. Build up some tension.

    Benelli MR1

We kicked this around in my "Benelli AR Rifle Thingy" thread a while ago. The closest I could find to a release date stated "November 2009". I spoke to a guy at the local gun shop that claims to have seen a dealer sample. Unfortunately, he was very unimpressed and thought it was a disservice to the Benelli name. I believe the adjective he used to describe it was "cheesey".
  21. If it's really M1014's dog... 1) Is it a thoroughbred? 2) Is it a limited edition? (Have the parents both been fixed?) 3) Is it the first born of the litter? (1 of #) 4) Why isn't he engraved or at least tattooed??
  22. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I guess I see it as yet another indication of the decay of western society. It really is unsettling to think of kids running around being encouraged to shoot each other with nearly exact replicas of real guns. What surprised me is it is the "gun shy" parents (no guns in the household) that think this is OK. I would hope that any household that has real guns would ensure that children are taught safe handling of firearms. You have to add a whole new chapter on toy identification and toy safety now. I agree that totally supervised training with a real gun may do more to engender a respect for safety than just handing a kid a dangerous toy. When I was about 8 years old I found a revolver hidden in a baseball dugout at the elementary school playground. It may have been a starter's pistol or it may have been a real gun. The point is, my dad took the time to teach me gun safety and to his credit I did not touch it, I reported it to the principal and he called to police (He apparently thought it was a big deal). I hope my grandson would be able to exercise the same good judgment.
  23. I went shopping at the local sporting goods store with my grandson today. I picked up a box of ammo for my pistol and we stopped to look at BB guns and the new (to me at least) Airsoft guns. My step-daughter and her husband are not really antigun but with four kids in the house they do not currently own any guns. They all know I shoot at the target ranges. I never have been hunting and it does not really appeal to me although i have numerous friends that are avid hunters. My grandson wants a BB gun or Airsoft gun for Christmas. I spoke to his parents about them. He is 10 and in Scouts so I think he should learn about gun safety. My father insisted I go to a hunter safety course when I was 13 even though he did not own a gun. His upbringing placed a value on knowing enough to be safe around guns. The airsoft guns appear to be functionally safer than the BB guns I had at his age. The ammo is plastic and much larger than the old copper clad BBs. They come in different weights as well. The lightweight ammo in the less powerful guns would appear to be much safer than standard BBs although eye protection would still be mandatory. The guns appear to have been engineered to be safe to fire at human targets. My grandson stated that several of his friends own these Airsoft guns and he has been shot with them while playing. This brings me to the part I found unsettling; one of the guns we looked at was virtually an exact replica of my Sig Sauer P226. It was expensive, $189, but the weight and appearance are virtually identical. The action is identical; functional decocker, SA/DA, and the slide blows back and cycles. I realized almost all of the major gun brands have licensed their designs for Airsoft versions. They also have extremely realistic shotguns and assault rifles. The only difference is a relatively small fluorescent orange ring at the muzzle. It bothered me that children are using guns that are identical to real handguns. In my day you could tell the difference between the cheesy BB guns and a real gun. There were high-end pellet rifles that could be confused for hunting rifles so maybe I'm being alarmist. I keep my guns secured but I could picture my grandson finding "Papa's Airsoft Pistol" and not realizing it is a very different piece of equipment. On the plus side I can see myself purchasing an Airsoft gun to practice for a CCW permit. Most of the ranges around here forbid practicing drawing from a holster.
  24. 1) I couldn't find the screw size anywhere on line. As mentioned previously, take one of the screws into a good hardware store and see if they have a thread pitch gauge. I'm not as optimistic as H&K2000. When the threads strip, it pulls the screw out of the hole and essentially cuts the hole to the same size as the major thread diameter. If you try to re-tap the threads the same size, there is little or no metal left to cut. You could drill and tap it to the next larger thread size, not an ideal fix but it would be cheap and easy. One correct way to fix it would be a process called heli-coil. They tap and thread the hole to a larger size and then screw in a sleeve with an internal thread that is the same size as the original. The receiver may be too thin for that operation and it would probably need to be performed by a gun smith. They could also heliarc new aluminum into the hole and re-drill and thread to original spec but the heat would likely mess with the finish. If you want to try the simple "re-thread to the same size" fix, make sure you use one of the permanent Locktite products like the red one all along the rail. The glue effect of the Locktite will be the primary means of fixation. 2) Red Locktite is essentially a glue. It can go between any mating metal parts that can be tightened together with little or no gap (it depends on the absence of oxygen to cure). You could use some on the rail where it contacts the receiver. You may want to use Blue Locktite on the small screws as the Red may cause them to strip out again when you disassemble it in the future. You can disassemble the parts again but you will need to heat them up with a heatgun to get it to release.
  25. Shotgun with a revolving cylinder...say what? Are they referring to the Taurus Judge Pistols or is there some type of way cool revolver shotgun I am currently unaware of? I just Googled it and found a German and Russian shotgun that have revolver like cylinders. Also it appears the Striker shotgun is a revolving cylinder, I had always thought it was a cylindrical magazine. You learn something everyday...if you aren't careful.
