  1. You can legally own the gun. You can legally own the high capacity magazine. They can sit in the closet together. It's not a problem until you put the loaded magazine into the gun. As far as the State of Ohio is concerned, you just created a "Dangerous Ordnance" which is forbidden! Honestly officer...it's just a novelty 100 round paperweight!
  2. Ohio is not too bad except for within the city limits of Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Toledo. They have their own laws and restrictions. For me it was an instant background check for my Benelli M4, Sig P226SCT, and Rock River AR15 and I took them home the same day with ammo. There is a state ban on magazines with a capacity in excess of 32 rounds although it does not appear to be enforced. You can buy drum mags at all the gun shows but I don't think I would pull one out at the public range. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor ranges and some of the state parks actually have nice outdoor ranges. Full auto and suppressed weapons are available. Most people buy them through trusts or corporations as the local LEO most likely will not sign the Federal Paperwork. No restrictions on where you can keep your guns and Ohio recently passed a Castle Doctrine law for home defense. About.com has a repository of gun laws by State: http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/Gun_Laws_by_State.htm
  3. For quite a while you could buy tritium keychain fobs from the UK and they even had a tritium flashlight! None of the radioactivity escapes, tritium is so weak the alpha particles cannot penetrate the glass tube. There is no way for anyone to detect any radioactivity. The only laws I found that regulated tritium was a US prohibition against "trivial uses". Basically keychain fobs are forbidden but gun sites are OK. I really wish I bought that flashlight when I had the chance!
  4. The M4 tends to be the focus of most of the modifications. I have to admit being an M4 bigot as well. I honestly don't recall many pictures posted of tricked out M2s (could be selective memory). Good luck with your M2 project and be sure to post pics if you find the perfect rail mounted cup holder!

    snap caps

I bought a set when I bought my M4. Mostly I wanted to practice drill so I wouldn't look like an idiot at the range. I still use them to check function after I strip and clean the shotgun. Just remember to keep them completely separate from live ammo.
  6. If the cardboard box is dented in one corner, don't worry...that's from when it "fell off the truck". Be careful and CYA. To me this smacks of "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I do sincerely wish you luck and have my fingers crossed that it works out for you. For the love of God...PLEASE KEEP US POSTED.
  7. These guys used to have a listing. You had to send in your existing non-tritium sight and they would machine it for tritium and the white ring. I have not tried them but I am tempted. http://www.tooltechgunsight.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
  8. The outside diameter of the factory piston appears to be ground and polished. Are you planning on undertaking that step as well. I too was contemplating the issues in duplicating the part. As you pointed out the radial grooves is the biggest headache. I was concerned about the seal to the cylinder. If the piston is too rough (or the material too hard, or you leave a burr) I would be concerned about damaging the cylinders. Near as I can tell that means buying a whole new barrel assembly.
  9. The only option apart from Meprolights that I am considering is this: http://www.tooltechgunsight.com/ These guys take your existing front sight and machine it to accept Trijicon inserts. They have an option for a white ring around the insert to make it look similar to the XS Big Dot tritium sight. The only downside is you have to send in your original non-tritium sight to be retrofitted. They don't have the prices listed on the web page any more but I think it was about $120 for the Benelli front sight only.
  10. Sorry, but I have to ask the obvious Homer Simpson "Doh" question: Did you remember to remove the snap ring from the stock tube and move it to the extension? I know some people don't bother re-installing it in the extension tube but if you leave it in...you ain't extended nuthin!
  11. I sold my house a year and a half ago, exactly one day before real estate tanked in the neighborhood (the next day three neighboring houses went up for sale and two of them were through relocation companies. Prices dropped a $100K overnight). I'm in an apartment now still looking for a house. Financially its a great position to be in but I have to confess about being nervous in the apartment. I'd rather have a house right now. Easier to defend and easier to stockpile supplies. I keep wondering how to cope with an extended power failure in an apartment. Not many auxiliary heating options and the thought of frozen, burst water pipes keeps me up at night. I've already had two water leaks from upstairs tenants during the summer. Any suggestions for temporary apartment dwellers?
  12. When I was a machinist the standard smartass answer was: "Tighten it until the threads strip or it breaks...then back it off a quarter turn!"
  13. I'm still gnawing my way through my Y2K leftovers! I have not actually purchased any food items yet but I somehow got on a mailing list (probably due to my new NRA membership) for a company called Emergency Essentials. You can view their online store at http://beprepared.com . They have multi-year food supply kits available. I'll wait for the looting to start and just take **** away from people who forgot to buy guns and ammo...its cheaper. I did buy a windup radio and light. Not necessarily for when TSHTF... ice storms and snow storms are more likely.
  14. Do you have any spares? If you get some as spare parts there are ways of determining the alloy and heat treatment. Unfortunately, the tests are destructive; grinding spark tests to determine alloy and cutting sections to check heat treatments. The steel companies used to provide some of these services for free to the machine shops. It might be worth asking around. If there is an Engineering college near you, you may find a helpful professor or student willing to do some testing for you for free.

    New Toy : )

Skeeter, better keep some black powder and nails on hand as well. If the SHTF like you are expecting you may run through those 100+ PMAGS and have to fall back to the blunderbuss or cannon. The recipe is simple...equal parts powder and nails by weight.
  16. I don't see much downside to the oven idea. If you bake it at 275 for 15-20 minutes that should do the trick. Just make sure its stripped completely and prop it up on the Mag tube and recoil tube to make sure the receiver does not touch the rack or pan (just a precaution, 275 should be well below any curing temp for the finish). I would think even heating like this would be less dangerous than high temp, uneven heating with a heat gun especially if you have the camo finish. Set on high the heat guns can reach 1000degrees Fahrenheit, aluminum melts at 1200degrees. I used a heat gun on mine with a variable output. I set it to 600degrees and kept slowly rotating the receiver and mag tube to heat it as evenly as possible. Set the oven to 375 and bake some cookies along with the receiver, when the cookies are done, eat a few and then give the mag tube a twist.
  17. I just finished my Rock River Arms AR15 build. Hope to take it to the range this weekend and try it out. I'm just starting out and am concentrating on guns that may be targeted for banning; AR15, SemiAuto Shotgun (M4 with extended mag), and a Sig Sauer P226 SCT (Super Capacity Tactical). I'm adding some accessories now. Remember to save some money for mags and ammo. Cases of 556 and hi-cap mags may be the first to become "scarce" at the stroke of a pen.

The "Liberals" had better keep their distance...at least 200 yards away!
  19. Just stick a flashlight in the barrel! It will be inline with the bore and chances are it will come out clean when you pull the trigger. The only downside is a limit of one shot per flashlight.

    Whoa Nelli!

In Cheney's defense...the dude does somewhat resemble a turkey.

    Whoa Nelli!

I declare thread drift! You guys went from hot chicks, to the actual gun (I followed the link and was disappointed at the lack of additional Italian babes), and finally end up with an old guy that got shot in the face. GET BACK ON TOPIC! P.S. If the first picture is M1014's significant other I retract any snide comments about his collection of engraved works of art.

Christmas is just around the corner. This could be your stocking stuffer. The hard part is asking Santa for ammo: Dear Santa, For Christmas I want Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards men....and a case of Hexolit 32 shells in case the first two items are too difficult. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good fight(?)

The Hexolit 32 looks like something out of a Batman movie. Can you buy these in the USA or just the solid ones? A slug with an extremely enormous impact effect. When hitting the body, the frontal part of the slug instantly increases from 18.5 to 36-38 mm in diameter – this is the largest slug expansion diameter ever known.

The Dupo28's look wicked too! They are expanding!
