  1. I personally am a fan of the .300 win mag, but if your looking for something where the ammo is cheaper, the .30-06 would be a great choice. You can find a load combo for pretty much everything in N. America. If your OK with buying a used gun, I would do that. Then spend as much as you can afford on a good scope. Otherwise I would be looking at some Savage/Reminigton rifles. That Stevens Tucker recommended Is built by savage and would be a great, no frills hunting rifle. I know the MSRP is over $400, but all the local gun stores sell them for under $300. As far as scopes go, I would be looking at a Leupold VX-3 or Nikon as they would probabkly be in your budget.
  2. Uhh no. Regardless of the size of your paychecks, $5 for a new barrel would be a great deal, for everybody but the seller. Which is what I was implying in my previous post.
  3. Noo, I didnt. I am pretty sure $5.00 would be a great price for me.
  4. Where do you get those dupleks slugs? It looks like they are made in Latvia, and I didnt seem see them available anywhere in the US
  5. A great price? $5.00 shipped and you can consider it sold!
  6. Those of you with the 10x42s, WHat do you think of the light transmission? Have you used them in low light situations?
  7. I wish every hunter felt this way. I've seen a huge lack of respect for the animals we are lucky enough to hunt every year lately.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. I carry my binos on a harness normally and that actually helps to stabilize them quite a bit. If I recall though, the 17x model is tapped for a tri pod so I could always use one if I wanted to. At this point I am leaning towards the straight 10x model. One less thing to go wrong when I'm looking for my monster bull
  9. Thanks guys. I've looked through some of the older Golden Rings but not the new HDs. My main concern is that the switch powers are brand new and I can't find a decent review of them anywhere let alone find a pair in a store to look at for myself. I am able to get them from leupold at cost but I wouldn't be able to sample them first. It sounds like a great idea but for the money I would be really pissed if they aren't clear at 17x like some lesser binos that I have seen before.
  10. This may be the wrong forum for this but I thought I would try and get some opinions on this. I am looking to step up from my Nikon Binoculars and am interested in the Golden Ring HD 10x42s and the 10/17x42s. Has anybody used these? And if so, what did you think of the switch power capabilities? http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/binoculars/golden-ring-series/golden-ring-10x42mm-hd/ http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/binoculars/golden-ring-with-switch-power-technology/golden-ring-1017x42mm-with-switch-power-technology/ Any info would be appreciated.
  11. I shoot a SBEII and I love it. My best friend/hunting partner shoots an 870 magnum and loves it. Neither of us would trade our gun for anything else. We could argue all day long about what gun is "better" but in the end nobody would win, they all have there own purpose/demographic. Personally I would prefer to shoot my benelli over his Remmy but thats just a matter of preference. However with that said: I would be interested in a 10 gauge 870 with a 26-30" barrel.
  12. Your talking about ducks? Where do you live? I have to wait until October...
  13. The work done by http://www.casecad.com looks to be of pretty good quality. Does anybody here know what they use to cut the foam?
  14. Thats a nice bird mudhen! Thats why I have been hunting Eastern Oregon, far less competition with private property. Almost a week into the season and I havent even been out yet! Its killin me. Should be out for a day next week and if unsuccesful I will go out for a few days the week after. Hopefully I will have a bird to show off to you guys!
  15. hmm, well I would continue to look at how you mount the gun and how you store it. It might be worth calling Benelli, its entirely possible that they produced guns with a bad batch of gel pads. Unlikely, but possible.
  16. What are you wearing when you shoot? Is the shoulder on your jacket or whatever your wearing abrasive? Mine has no wear on it after a couple thousand rounds. Might try looking at how you mount the gun to your shoulder as well. Maybe you drag it up your side before locking it into your shoulder, I am sure that would increase wear quite a bit. Just my $.02
  17. Yeah I understand that one. Good ammo isn't cheap. I just buy a box here and there throughout the year. By the time the seasons roll around I've got plenty of ammo stocked up and ready to go. I figure with all the time, effort, and money put into hunting we might as well use the best ammo available to us since its the only part that actually connects with the animal.
  18. I havent used this personally but my coworker has used his Super Nova for two years and had great results with it on Coyotes using this setup. Ammo http://www.cabelas.com/p-0027268215488a.shtml Choke http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0041021228297a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=Coyote+choke&Ntk=Product_liberal&sort=all&Go.y=0&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/search/search-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0 Just an FYI, He uses two guns a .22-250 for the long range stuff and his shotty when they get in closer inside of 60 yards.
  19. Well? Whats the verdict Temtd2?
  20. Never been able to ride one of those! The columbiia river is a bit cold but I've always wanted to try.
