  1. Nothing brings a crow out of the cracks like a squawking winged crow. It also serves as a great decoy. We hunt them with mid-caliber pellet rifles, .20 and .25's mostly, although a well placed .177 performs equally well, and won't attract the base MP's.
  2. Disregard post #102. Despite having an FFT trigger headed to the Houston facility to sample product origin ...He decided after reviewing FFT claims of product superiority over Geissele, (see AR15.com threads), and having FFT staff incessantly bad mouth several competitors on the phone, that he wants nothing to do with FFT's products or practice. At this point he only trusts the Geissele hammer option, with its lack of ambiguity. He also mentioned securing a US made M4 disconnector with a tungsten carbide coated mating surface he seems very pleased with so he appears to be set for life. Thanks for everyone's help.
  3. A very good friend in Houston frequently participates in charity cycling tours and he owns a Benelli. He is interested in my opinion regarding trigger parts as candidates for complance with his C-stock, which is the only reason he and I were reading this thread. One of his riding partners uses High Resolution ICP-MS Ultra-Trace Metals Analysis machines in his line of work. I have no idea what that is, but he messaged an overview of how it can be used for grins; "Take side by side samples, run a 3/16" ram EDM 5 thousanths down to obliterate surface contaminants, then scrub. Follow this with virgin electrodes and electrolyte and plunge with a 1/16" electrode to a depth of twenty thousanths in each sample. Cull the electrolyte, and spent electrode material, and run a simple trace analysis on what remains." He enjoys tinkering with the equipment, which he states; "...can determine the statistical probability of whether two parts were fabricated from raw materials that came from the same mill source. Mills have distinct process traces, handling traces, alloying ratios, and atmospheric content traits which produce a "DNA" profile for lack of better words." He can't always determine where the materials came from without mill-cert sheets, but he CAN tell us if an FFT trigger is a Benelli remanufactured part since FFT ain't talking. Anyone have one they want to loan to him? He lives in Houston, and I can vouch for him. He is pairing the sought after FFT sample with his Benelli M4 sample. He promises the part will not be destroyed, and can be placed back into immediate service once the analysis is complete. I suggested he buy one himself, but he does not want it if the part proves to be of an inferior alloy, meaning he probably WILL buy the FFT trigger if it proves to be a Benelli reman part, unlike the hammer which appears to be of distinct origin. I have no dog in it, and suspect he won't be disappointed if there are no takers, but I'd want to play with that equipment too if I had access to it.
  4. I only stated my understanding of why TKTM and others are searching for plausible explainations when pertinent details are withheld. If this matters that much to you as well, then please tell us which 4 he did mention. Nothing wild about it, no half truths here either. Nor is it a lie to wonder out loud, when "mum's the word" bred the open pondering. There has been more than one report, unless Google replicated the findings here in multiple forums. Either way decisive action is likely, and here is where we learn how and when FFT might address the quandry. Their past would indicate they might completely resolve the issue, and here is where we find out, with your blessing of course.
  5. The way Benellis are; It will function properly after the bolt is released with the button, and after firing. It will also function properly after a chamber check if you abruptly release the charging handle from a distance that exposed roughly half of the chambered round. Easing it forward will almost certainly produce the FTF which has frustrated you. This is not a defect. It is an intrinsic part of the ingenious operating principle that I doubt I can put into words past stating the bolt, cam pin, and inertia spring all act in unison WITH the momentum of an abruptly closing termination of the journey, which is improbable by closing the bolt slowly. Most of us have experienced the same epiphany you are now confronting. Once grasped I hope this allays your concerns, and yields an adaptive technique which will enhance your shooting experience.
  6. They wasted your time with the return. They can't fix what is not broken. Similar to any firearm, it must return fully into battery, which occurs reliably during proper cycling, whether that be firing mode or operator's manipulation of the bolt. There is nothing they can do to change how the inertia driven bolt operates, and the relative momentum needed to fully rotate the bolt to fully locked-ready-to-fire mode. The M1 Super 90 was exactly the same, requiring knowledgable instructors to make our troops aware of this simple and imperative safeguard against FTF related stopages.
  7. BMT is stable, but unlike the rest of the gun, introduces the need for a wrench to field strip and clean. The BLAM4 keeps the mount crofton recommended at the forefront in my mind.
  8. "Essentially the same M4 that they have been building for the US Military since 1999...." Not exactly. Four H20 parts are of domestic origin. Absent Benelli compliance particulars or FFT source clarity, TKTM and others are searching for plausible explainations regarding photos of peened domestic hammers. Scratched hammers are normal. Peened, mushroomed, or otherwise deformed domestic trigger components do NOT bode well for what lay ahead in the vicinity of sear/disconnector mating surfaces. Why risk it? Hopefully not for a lighter trigger pull, since several reviews state their trigger pack produced a gritty and/or heavier pull. That's just the nature of drop in parts with the M4's trigger geometry/principle. A tube, follower, reputable Geissele hammer and FFT's (or Surefire) handguard covers all bases for any M4 configuration without the potential for peril, for less money.
  9. That is not good news. Missed it until the latest post resurrected it. I have a JH, but no Carlson for side-by-side. Does anyone have similar findings or pics of similar tests beside a JH and rival?
  10. marc 63; Are you referring to Birchwood Casey? And if so, what do you use during the "scuff" phase you reference? Scuff pad, sandpaper, what grit? Thanks for the good info.
  11. Every supplier we commonly buy from, no matter how big or small, freely admits who makes the gear they sell. Our armory CAN'T undergo aquisition without knowing a source, not that they are entertaining open purchase of said trigger group, they aren't, or the notion would be DOA. See Brownells, Midway etc. Check the info and they volunteer the source. Answering the phone, speaking in riddles, and furnishing replacements from a mystery source is not entirely reassuring.
  12. I read somewhere that some folks steer clear of chokes that strip the wadding. I don't recall the specific reason for the aversion, but do remember a few posters agreeing with the statement. Any insight on this?
  13. Aside from turkeys, and a wary buck, I doubt my quarry ever notice the outline of a gun. When they do, the broken pattern and weather resistance of any camo has its welcome place. I may even have one dipped if my armorer's offer was serious. Said he'd split the materials with me and do both our SBE's.
  14. Todd only states the manufacturer of the trigger parts has been at it for 30 some odd years. Hopefully in that amount of time, they have a quick answer for the material and hardness issues to be resolved. Still would be nice to know who we're counting on. I don't mind a heavy trigger on an M4, it is smooth and fast, but I'd rather tend to the factory set than buy an unknown soft parts set. If we had a clue who made them, I'd wait for the fix, that is unless Tapco is involved. For now I like knowing who made my aftermarket hammer, and that the seller made no secret of it.
  15. Both have their advantages, NB being brighter is the most significant down side I have observed It is... the rear sight's screws are staked as you may have observed. They can be re-used, but are awkward to insert once removed, and never as secure unless secured with thread-locker. The specific applicator will vary on opinions here. Stranger Danger said it well! For my money, the OEM parkerizing and anodizing are pinache, adequate, proven. The tube (bore) and other sundries are chrome lined (or plated), and all else is burnished or otherwise satisfactory for my armory's liking. The "H2O" rendition is an admirable marketing jolt, perhaps a tad easier to clean, and cleaning is cheaper than the status upgrade, and far more effective at maintenance, than any $ spent elsewhere. Lastly, what does not shine, does not betray. Keep it in the black, and let the 3-gunners put glitter on their coats.
  16. From the horse's mouth; The problem with making the charging handles in black, was the muted ones were constantly absorbed by ongoing orders. Swung by his shop a week and a half ago (about 90 miles from my home of record) and was shown a sample in black Tialn. Unlike painted variants... sandapaper wouldn't touch it (yes he showed me enthusiastically). Apparently the $20 premium per was a "high" estimate which he sourced down to roughly half that in the end. Also stated he had slated a few dozen for prototype coating this month (Feb) in spite of demand in order to clear the hurdle. I would order two but he won't take money in advance for items he has yet to evaluate. Ethics be danged!! No worries, he gave me the sample so I need only scrounge for one.
  17. Several import batches arrived in non-ascending order of manufacture. Hypothetical example... gun #10 comes in prior to 922r, while gun #9 arrives after 922r, so be careful when comparing notes for 922r purposes. Also note BATF has this list and compares import date, rather than date of manufacture. One of my former armorers learned this the hard way, when attempting to register his hi-cap M1 at Ft Dix NJ.
  18. Good point. Taking it a step further, at roughly 1/3 lb weight reduction from a 7.8 lb shotgun, the titanium option sheds a mere 4% of pork from the avgerage gun. Food for thought.
  19. The Carriercomp Staff has always addressed my emails pronto, as recently as Sept 9th, even though Kip was reportedly tending to family matters in New Mexico for 2 weeks. That sort of management, along with the candid and enlightening intro to his home page(shown below) has always been thoroughly refreshing. So if that's "Kip Kool-Aid for the band", pour me a glass. Tastes great! Here's the intro to his home page. Suits me right down to the ground; Welcome to Carriercomp.. Please read and understand the following details carefully BEFORE ORDERING!Carriercomp would like to express sincere gratitude for our customer's continued loyalty during our summertime routine, where the summer heat necessitates 3rd shift production. While this schedule makes fielding phone inquiries difficult, we strive to answer email inquiries as able, in an effort to balance production with contact and support for efficient customer satisfaction. Although our crew is small, each member cherishes hearing from and responding to our customers before, during, and after any transaction consideration. Your patience and loyalty has enabled us to continue operating under a "lean" business model, and explore efficient growth potential, without having to wield premium retail pricing in the process. Again, Thank You.
  20. Ask yourself if you'll ever shoot upon a military range, at a 3 Gun match that has the requirement posted, or some LE ranges, where the safety officer requires it for loaded status checks. If you answered "no-no-no"... then the follower finish is entirely up to you.
  21. Get a domestic full length tube here http://www.shop.carriercomp.com/product.sc?productId=3&categoryId=4 if 922r parts count matters. If not, save some dough & get a steel extender from FFT http://freedomfightertactical.com/products-page/magazine-tubes/the-freedom-fighter-tactical-steel-magazine-extension-tube-for-benelli-m4-shotgun/ or Benelli via Gunbroker, domestic or import, makes no difference. For an SBS that is readily convertible to the standard barrel you need the extender. Bolt release, the favored one seems to be GG&G. Not essential, but not a hinderance either. Charging handle; http://www.shop.carriercomp.com/category.sc?categoryId=8 Nothing else comes close, as long as you don't mind a lead time. Those beauties take a lot longer to build, and are competitively priced from what appears to be a small company, so cause and effect = waiting period. Geissele Hammer http://www.shop.carriercomp.com/product.sc?productId=15&categoryId=5 One of my troops had the BN armorer mill a slot like an MOE handguard has, and used one of these to round it out http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG406/103 which comes complete with backing washers that grip the grooved slot. Worked great. Welcome aboard Kevin. Check your messages for more mundane details.
  22. Moot? The WH Press Secretary stated; " it's possible the review underway at the Justice Department could produce legislation". Read more: http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/07/07/six-months-after-tucson-shooting-white-house-readies-gun-control-stance#ixzz1RWyzliNK
