Guest cleefurd Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 (July 26) I was being admitted to Rapid City Regional Hospital in South Dakota with a broken back (fractured T-5 vertebrae) fractured left wrist, and shattered right wrist all of which are now remedied with braces, external fixators, neck / back braces, etc. I was released on Thursday the 29th six days ahead of the preferred release date that Tri-Care-Prime agreed to, and made it back to Pensacola on the 2nd of August. The prognosis is very good for my back and worst wrist, which will resume treatment here that was deferred to by the early departure from SD.... had to get back to work !! Quote

Guest cleefurd Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) Did BIGHAT do this to you ?:confused:jk Nah. He ribs me here and there but reading between the lines I suspect he'd rather see me able-bodied than busted up. Remember he stresses mission accomplishment... same here. Thanks for all the positive notes. Everything is GTG save the doctors visits and temporary slow-motion, all will return to normal soon. Edited August 5, 2010 by cleefurd Quote
heckler&kochp2000 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 My son broke his humerus bone Elbow a couple of months ago but your looks bad , Well i hope you get a speedy recovery. Quote
Biscuitbreath Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Holy moly, Kip, bigtime break (open reduction and internal fixation - ORIF)...Doritos on x-ray! ...and that's just R your wrist. Your T-5 and L wrist can't be any fun, either. I sure hope you were kidding about having to get back to work, man, really, you need to lay low and get through your PT. This could take months, and that's alright if it will mean you get healed well, you know? I hope you don't mind a couple of pointers...if doc prescribed a non-steroidal anti-inflamatory (e.g. Ibuprofen - aka Advil, Aleve, Celebrex, etc.), that's good. They're golden for ortho ailments. If he didn't, ask him about it. And don't hesitate to dose your prescribed narcotic prior to the pain reaching peak level. Strong pain is just not a necessity. Just be absolutely vigilant at maintaining regularity by taking a stool softener every day (ask doc about 400 mg (or more) of docusate sodium daily -- this is the generic of Colace, which is the expensive brand-name.) Narcotic analgesics shut down peristalsis (movement of the bowels) as sure as rain, and the last thing you need is 'rhoids or possibly a bowel obstruction requiring more surgery. [Trust me on this one...Electra Glide Classic, August 2003, six ribs and L clavicle.] Take care of yourself, Kip, and get well soon! Robert Quote
OhioM4 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 So, where's my bolt handle? It's currently being used to hold Kip's Lunate and Ulna bones together! Quote
