    Trouble W/ SBE

My brand new Browning Silver Hunter - a close twin to the Winchester SX3 - jams every 3rd or 4th shell. It ejects the empty, but won't feed the new shell. It may be a matter of breaking in, we will see how the rest of the season goes... mudhen - CA

  3. Excellent info from someone who is obviously well informed!!! I have been doing all of the above for about 18 seasons now with no real problems. I also do this type of stuff on my Browning Golds/Silvers and most of my other mechanical possessions. mudhen - CA

    SBE2 misfiring?

Yes, I would agree that user error is a fairly common problem with Benelli products! mudhen - CA
  5. Both. I think the set is still around - maybe E-Bay? mudhen - CA
  6. Guy - you are on the right track for sure - polish up everything a bit and look for crud that might be impacted in the lock up area. New Wolff springs are SOP for all my Benellis after 2-3 years of hard shooting and/or excessive water dunking. I polish the recoil tube with a drill rig I made when I replace the spring. mudhen - CA

    SBE2 misfiring?

Let's try using real words http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=prevalent I think user error is much more prevalent theory. Maybe a bad/dirty recoil spring? Maybe a dry/dirty rotary bolt head assembly? I've shot maybe 500 full power slugs/sabots at the range and in the field with nary a hiccup. Call Benelli CS if the problem persists... mudhen - CA
  8. I've only seen the SG camo in Timber. I'd like one in Max 4 because I have a Max 4 SBE II, but I can't imagine Benelli ever making one in Max 4. mudhen - CA
  9. I have not needed to replace an ejector plate of the new design. The extractor is pretty simple - tap the roll pin out and put the new extractor in. Yes, I bet Benelli CS reads this forum... mudhen - CA
  10. Pretty much all Winglocks. Nothing fancy, I just like to kill ducks... mudhen - CA
  11. No luck about it. I've got maybe 75,000 rounds through all my Benellis with a handful of malfunctions of any kind. Ditto on cleaning gas guns. I had forgotton what a hassle it is! mudhen - CA

  13. 6 posts, 3 posts, 8 posts, etc. Lots of newbies with this relatively common problem with new Benellis. If I saw guys with 1000 posts making the same complaints, I'd be more concerned. No big deal guys, either Benelli will fix, or the problem will go away on it's own. I'm guessing Benelli CS ignores a fair share of the new owners complaints because they know the issue tends to fix itself. It is very likely an issue of operator error and/or improper break in. Hold a Benelli firmly when shooting and keep holding it while shooting. I can make my Benellis stovepipe by letting go while shooting or loosely gripping the gun. I can get lazy and let go sometimes. I have the most jams on straight overhead shots and shots from layout blinds. I break in all my Benellis with turkey loads and have had no significant issues with the 12 or so Benellis I have used in the past 18 years. Ditto on the FP10. I don't like it. To gummy and slow in all my guns. It attracts lots of grit & grime in my guns. I'll stick with BreakFree CLP for now. Shame on the guy for bringing any brand new gun to Canada! Good luck with Browning products. My new Silver Hunter fails every 3rd or 4th time. The bolt shucks the empty, but won't release the next shell. I am about 99% sure it's a combination of me not holding the gun firmly and the new recoil spring breaking in. I like the gun very much, but it's no Benelli. I bought a Browning BPS last year and it failed right out of the box. Every brand of shells seized in the chamber. I sold it ASAP. I'd love to know the name of the Benelli dealer that does in store warranty repairs. Is it Gooch's? I have never heard of a dealer doing warranty work on a new Benelli. I would not trust a gunshop to work on a brand new Benelli, I'd only trust a Benelli gunsmith at Benelli USA. Plus, there is no 'extractor plate inside the barrel', the ejector plate is inside the barrel. The extractor lives on the bolt head. Also, watch out for the new special recoil pads. I've had several guns fail because of Hi-Viz & Limsaver pads. Sometimes they can throw off the timing of some semi-autos. That might be what's happening on my Silver Hunter. It does not jam with the nasty rock hard factory pad. Good luck with your Benelli issues - they sell every Benelli they make as fast as they can get them here - so I really doubt there are any major quality control issues. As for the Beretta Xtrema II, fine gun, buy one if you like it. mudhen - CA
  14. A bunch of X I's shot left a few years back, but I've heard of very few X II's with that problem. I would have bought an X II this year, but I'm on a Browning Silver/Win SX3 kick right at the moment. mudhen - CA
  15. Is it camo? The excess film can make it tight. Are you making sure the tube with the d-ring is in place each time? If the tube is off center it won't go back in easily. Did you change the shims at any point? Sometimes the shims block the trigger assembly from going back in. My SBE II's are way more snug than any of my SBE's, but they get easier over time. Don't force it, you may break something... mudhen - CA
  16. Since it says for synthetic stocks, I'd say yes, it will only work on synthetic stocks The C & H wood version is not as wide. mudhen - CA
  17. They are very different shotguns. Both very good, just different. At my shop, the SBE II outsells the Xtrema II by about 3 to 1. We get very few complaints about either model. The complaints we do get are minor; chipped camo film, beads not perfectly aligned, etc. No serious malfunction complaints about either gun. The biggest difference to me is that the X II is overbored and the SBE is not. The underbored SBE patterns smaller shot well. I use it for turkeys and with small non-tox for waterfowl. I prefer overbored and back/or backbored guns for large non-tox shot. These guns pattern the larger shot better for me. This chart shows the effect of backboring (according to Browning). The SBE II runs around .718 to .723 & the Xtrema II runs around .733: http://www.browning.com/products/features/detail.asp?id=114 I've patterend 1000's of rounds from Benellis and overbored/backbored guns, so I have a foundation for my views on this matter. As far as cleaning goes, the Benelli wins, no contest. Same for handling, the X II is a 2x4 that shoots shotgun shells, the SBE II is a slim & sleek shooter. Many guys I know own both guns. Each performs a job for these shooters. Tough call either way... mudhen - CA

  21. I have shot several redheads in the rice in NorCal. Shot four last year in Willow's rice fields. They are quite common in the central valley. Kern kills them on almost every hunt day. Good job on the opening day hunt! I shot 10 birds yesterday near Sacramento Refuge. mudhen - CA

  25. Not an uncommon issue with Benellis. I'd start playing the shim game. I'm guessing you may be shooting high. My SBE II came with the A shim installed and shot high for me. I switched to C (actually a C with a shaved down A to try to make a D), and the gun shoots better for me. mudhen - CA
