  1. After about 15 phone calls, I was pleased to find one a mere 2+ hours away! I'll pick it up tomorrow! Can't wait to put my hands on her. [ 12-08-2004, 11:59 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]
  2. I like the new 204, but I'm not sure it would be strong enough for coyotes? Also, if distance is the main concern, consider the 25-06. Remington will be offering several models in the 204 in the coming year. Several others already have it. It's Ruger's invention, so they obviously have it in many configurations.
  3. Is $1090 about as well as I could expect to do for a SBE LH in black?
  4. Didn't see it, but I'll keep an eye out for a rerun.
  5. There is no best call. A diaphragm works well for locating or on windy days because of it capacity to generate more volume. When they're close in, a soft sounding slate or glass call is hard to beat. I carry a diaphragm, a double glass, and a slate. Lynch's box calls work very well and are easy to use too. Many friction calls are rendered useless by moisture, so learn to use a mouth call or stay at home on rainy or foggy days. [ 12-07-2004, 10:29 AM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]
  6. Looking at some of the Fabarm products, they bear some familiarity to Benellis. As I understand it, H&K is tied to Fabarm as well. To be honest the H368 looks like a fine shotgun for about half the cost of the M2 or SBE. My question: Is Fabarm related to Benelli? If so, in what way?
  7. In VA, we still have a long way to go before it's over, but so far this year has sucked. The warm weather has kept the swamps and ponds full, while our river and lake blinds have been useless.
  8. It's year-end and many dealers are preparing for fiscal inventory. Ask you dealer if he'd consider calling one of the stocking dealers on the auction sites and seeing if he can arrange to purchase their stock at or near cost. Since it is close to time count inventory for taxes and insurance, they may be willing to deal.
  9. Perhaps it's too late to do so now, but I'd find a stocked dealer and pay the transfer fees. Try gunbroker.com, auctionarms.com, and gunsamerica.com. Find a dealer with a good price and FFL willing to do the transfer and you're shooting in a few days.
  10. I finally got a chance to fire a few rounds today. I hate it when work gets in the way of life, but I'm glad I'm one the lucky few who still know the difference The only marks or variances I'm seeing are from the extractor. I don't see anything beyond those, which appear to be normal. Back to that 940... A hunting buddy has been using one for years. I had the misfortune of standing on the eject side of that thing one day when we were rapid-firing on a herd of does as they tried to escape. After a quick three hot ones on the back of my head, I yielded the forward position to him. ****ed glad I had an insulated cap on! /sidenote - finally got the replacement stock from Benelli today. It could not have been any more different in color and grain than my forearm. No way am I settling for that. Called Benelli and we agreed for me to finish out the season and then ship them the rifle for a matched set. They're also going to look at the bolt hold-open to make sure nothing's wrong there. Good luck with those boars. Happy hunting. [ 12-02-2004, 05:31 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]
  11. Buy what you budget allows. In most cases, you get what you pay for. I'm not familiar with NE's products, so I can't comment on their quality.
  12. http://www.gggaz.com/dvc/weapon_tsf.php http://www.mrarms.com/ Both do alloys. Both respond fairly quickly to e-mails.
  13. I'd consider something like Diamonkote. http://www.mrarms.com/ or Teflon S http://www.gggaz.com/dvc/weapon_tsf.php In fact, I fully expect to do this to my R1 as soon as I've worn the shiny off it a bit.
  14. As you know, I don't reload mine, but I'll check the next empty for similar variances. /Ever seen what a HK 940 does to a case? Scrap metal!
  15. Typically you'll find that buckshot patterns best in the more open chokes. I'd start with IC and work my way back. Full choke is generally the worst choice for big pellets.

    Newbie

Apparently Drundel is unaware that Benelli aslo makes pump shotguns. The Nova is available in 20 ga. as is the legacy (also overlooked). Online, try gunbroker.com, auctionarms.com, and gunsamerica.com for good prices on new and used shotguns.
  17. You can get a set of open sights here http://www.calssportingarmory.com/BenelliR1Accessories.htm, but they are expensive! After much trial and error, I settled on the factory base and Leupold rings. Phenon likes the QR rings, which would probably be a good selection for you as well if you're going to be using open sights in some instances. I've presonally never liked see-thru rings.
  18. I (also left-handed) use my R1 as it came out of the box and like it the way it is. Just scored another kill with it today....make that two kills... almost forgot about the groundhog. If the rifle sholders well and feels good leave it alone.
  19. Thanks very much! Very useful information here, I managed to find a new LH SBE in 28" black on clearance for $900. It's tempting, but I think I'm holding out for a SBE II.
  20. I'm taking an interest in this thread as well, as I too am beginning to become more and interested in a SBE II. Does the extra 2" make that much difference? What about with regard to velocities. Are muzzle velocities affected by barrel length in shotguns in a similar fashion to the way they are in rifles... longer = faster?
  21. I noticed that you had posted a question regarding the SBE II LH. I'm beginning to get an itch for one those myself. What would you say is a fair price? What's a bargain price for one? Thanks and good luck with the bolt.
  22. Living in a small town has its distinct disadvantages when it comes to many things. Submitted as exhibit A is the phone conversation I just had with my local sporting goods store (aka Wal-Mart). "Sporting Goods, please"... 'Hello, dis is spoating guds' "Yes, do you have any steel or hevi shot in 12 guage 3 and a half inch?" [i figured this was about as far as I'd dare to tax the sharp mind of the Wal-Mart sporting goods counter person. If they got this close, I'd make the drive and look for the particular brand/size combination in person.] 'Ho-doan' different voice - 'Hullo' "Hello, I'm checking to see if you have any steel or hevi shot in 12 ga. - 3 and a half inch." 'Is dem bullits?' "Never mind" So, tomorrow I drive past Wal-Mart and go 30 miles out of my way to the nearest bonafide sporting goods store to purchase ammunition for my upcoming duck/goose hunt on Friday. Wal-Mart is a plague, slowly eating away at this once great nation. Their low prices force knowledgable shop keepers out of business and we are left minimum wage kids and old people who don't "bullits" from shotshells.
  23. I'm wondering if I missed something when I switched the safety to LH. I'll probably send it to Benelli after the season's over and have them check it out. It's not a big deal, but a friend pointed out that it seemed to be odd behaviour for semi-auto.
  24. My R1's bolt stays open after the last shot. This is normal behaviour as I understand it. However, if the magazine is ejected while the bolt is open, the bolt subsequently slams shut. Is this also normal behaviour? BTW: My R1 took its first victim Saturday. A nice 8 pointer at 200 yds. Impact was within an inch of where I expected it to be. He dashed off about twenty paces and crashed.
