  1. is there a difference in the wieght of the slugs in 3", as opposed to the 2 3/4? or is it just more powder??
  2. i got in 2006. it seems to do ok like it is with either light or heavy loads. mine doesnt say anything on it. and the way its made, it really doesnt look reversable.
  3. #6 is not allowed at Alpine in Ft. Worth. ive always done pretty good with 7.5s, when i shoot 5 stand thats what i use. typical score is 22 out of 25. that #4 station is a bugger.
  4. looking at the proof codes that tucker301 posted on the franchi forum, under "lookimg for background info on 12ga". the XXXlll code shows that it was made in 1967. is there any model #s?
  5. i shoot 7.5s, i shoot the same thing i hunt with. Federal heavy field load 3drams eq 1 1/8oz #7.5.
  6. me three. i dont take expensive shells to kill clays. never have understood why people pay the big bucks for WW AA skeet loads.
  7. man i just found a beutiful gun. go to www.gunbroker.com type in 109225214.Browning ducks unlimited 50th annv 12 ga A-5, pardon my steady flow of drool.
  8. timb99 you really condradicted your self to an extent there my friend. if one gun shoots a tighter pattern than another ,it is naturally going to have a little better range. it just stands to reason. like i said the differences are not great but they are noticeable. most of the smokeless powders we use today have been around since before the 1940s.dupont,imr,green dot, red dot, and blue dot to name few. a friend of mine has an old marlin bolt action 12ga with a 36"barrel full choke. ugliest gun ive ever seen. we patterned it against my 870 with a full choke 24" barrel.using same ammo. at 40yds my pattern covered a 36" piece of poster board. his pattern was less than 20".this was a big difference. the next thing we did was take a mossberg 500 12ga 20" barrel open choke, and put it up against a mossberg 12ga with a 28" modified. we were shooting out across a lake. and you could see that the 28" gun was shooting considerably farther than the 20". even the manufacturers will tell you that barrel length, choke ammo, all play a role in the performance of a shotgun. who would know more about them than the people that make them?? i do agree that gauge makes no difference. Steve Conovor is a shotgun expert he has proven that a longer barrel has a better pattern than a short one, also check out this... www.metrogun.com if you still dont believe it. i was thinking how funny it would be to see "idoh" in the field with a goose gun. no offense intended. i dont think on a flat plain that a shotgun would shoot a 1000ft with a slug. if it did i bet the slug would drop 2 1/2 feet.
  9. no arguement.i just didnt want the hunt to end that quik.
  10. after looking at it, it might do some real damage.because it does not look reversable. it doesnt say it in the manual to flip it for hotter loads, in the assembly instructions, it shows how it is supposed to be installed. i wouldnt try it myself
  11. you dont shoot steel through a tighter choke than mod, for simple reason.. steel shot does not compress at all.
  12. yee haa, i finally sold my AR-50. a word of advice...never, NEVER, buy one. you have to be a millonaire to shoot it. and its next to impossible to sell without giving it away. get an AR-30 in 300 Win mag or 338. most ranges wont let you shoot it there anyway.FMJ rules apply.
  13. last month, there were thousands of acres of milo planted in southern Denton co., and northern Tarrant co.,i have never seen so many dove. but the lease prices range from $50.00 to $120.00 ridiculous.the best hunts ive ever had were around Seymore & Knox City,TX. hundreds of thousands of acres of sunflowers and milo.lease price.....$20.00 - $25.00 per day, per gun.i limited out in 50 minutes. so being the smart a**, i am i got another limit. 30 birds when we left the lease. at the end of the road sat a green dodge pick up. yep you guessed it. TEXAS GAME WARDEN. we were all 4 were ticketed and paid an $836.00 fine. so if you ever go out that way leave legal. on another note. before you ever pay for a lease, go to it for a few days in the am, and watch the field for dove coming in.
  14. i read the manual on the C/D field hunter cover to cover. it doesnt say anything about needing to flip the plunger over for different loads.ive shot loads as low as 2 3/4 drams, 7/8oz to 3"magnums through it with no problems at all.
  15. maybe he didnt vote for cheney.......revenge???
  16. just some helpful tips on doves.... 1.watch the field where you are hunting and watch what direction the bird are entering the field. doves follow a flight pattern when leaving the roost to go to the fields to graze, as well as returning to the roost. 2.in the mourning, walk the field. dont wait for them to come to you, go to them. 3.in the evening, find a stock tank or pond and stake it out. doves like a drink of water before returning to the roost. 4. if this doesnt work let me know, we,ll get together one week end and ill take you to a place in granbury,tx. where you cant keep your gun loaded.
  17. not to keep the arguement going, but ive seen first hand what a mild load of bird shot out of just a 20ga can do.its not instant death like buckshot would be, but it was very lethal to say the least. ive started loading my 12ga with a hi-velocity duck & pheasent load 3 3/4 drams, 1 1/4 #BB for the first shot.a 2 3/4" 00 mag for the second, and 3" 000 mag for the third. i realize a lot of experts on the subject dont recommend using bird shot for h/d, but i have my opinions, just as they do. its not right or wrong, its just different veiws.i think to best answer to the question would be...use what ever your the most comfortable with. i know people that will use only a baseball bat.crazy you ask? yes, but thats what they prefer to use.
  18. im glad you liked it. i havnt talked to many people that own one, that was unhappy with them. thier very hard to beat for the price. after you shoot it a bit, it will lossen up some. mine doesnt kick as hard as my Franchi AL-48 20ga now. but if you shoot any 3" mags, grit your teeth. cause it will jar them out.
  19. i do have 00 buckshot in my 12ga, but it is the third round. its a 3" Remington Express nitro magnum, 15 pellets buffered. and let me tell you, they are awfull, on both ends.
