  1. This handguard mounting might work well with one of those newer offset Thorn Tail Mounts. That would push the light further forward ahead of the handguard.
  2. For those of you who whom have attempted to disassemble the receiver extension on your Benelli M4, you've probably encountered the oddly shaped face of the stock attachment screw. I finally found a tool that fits this stock attachment screw perfectly in my Brownells MAGNA-TIP® PROFESSIONAL SUPER SET. You can buy the bit by itself if needed here: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=492/Product/MAGNA-TIP-reg-WINDAGE-CLAMP-SCREW-BITS
  3. Same conclusion I came to after looking at it for a while. Thread locker and the stock retainer screw do not mix if you ever plan to remove the stock for maintenance. That little snap ring won't do anything to retain the stock retainer. It'll push right through it if you have a seized mounting bolt and stock retainer.
  4. That collapsible stock can be made functional with the right parts and testicular fortitude to do the job.
  5. Normal. There is no spring keeping the pistons fixed in a certain position.
  6. I've read bad reviews about the torque wrench that Brownells has. So I didn't get it. I'd rather have the one Benelliwerkes has. I have the fixed blade set he listed as well. Got those last year for Father's Day.
  7. The Brownells screw driver set Benelliwerks posted is awesome. I just got mine yesterday for Father's Day. I still haven't organized the bits properly though. That'll be an hour of my time.
  8. The Surefire M80 weighed about 5 ounces more than the factory handguards. This isn't that bad, but anything you add will start racking up. I figure I ended up at around 12 ounces more than factory with my weapon light mounted. The worst part is the oversized grip. If the BLAM4 was built right, it would be the choice platform. It adds very little weight and retains the factory ergonomics. Surefire M80 Setup BLAM4 The sling mount was a fail. There wasn't enough rail room to do it securely. A lock washer would be a good plan for the Mesa Tactical stock. I wouldn't add the locktite to it though. I tried to link to a thread here, but it sends my post to limbo.
  9. Thanks for the link. I'd like a few spares. I'm not sure if it was a different spring or if it was just worn out. It's possible that a lighter spring was in there to operate the low recoil rounds with the 4 port barrel.
  10. Where did you find that spring on Brownells? I've been looking for those for a while. It doesn't show up as a stocked part in the schematics. In my 11703, I replaced the spring with a 11707 spring and noticed the difference in spring length as well. I had assumed that the spring had just taken a set since it had about 10,000 rounds on it at that time. By then, the action was extremely sluggish, the weak spring failed to return the bolt to battery on weak loads quite often. When I transitioned to a new 11707 receiver extension, it came equipped with a newer production plunger and spring as well. The action cycled with authority and returned the bolt to battery much faster than the original. Perhaps this was a 'feature' of the crappy four port barrels? This extension should be disassembled and cleaned periodically. A lot of crap builds up in there. Sometimes finding the right tool to remove the stock mounting screw can be a real pain though.
  11. How many rounds through the weapon?
  12. I wouldn't recommend putting locktite on the attachment screw for the Urbino stock. Others have done this, but when they attempted to remove the stock, the 'stock attachment screw' also backed out of the recoil tube. It will push right through the snap ring. They ended up with their stock attachment screw seized on the attachment screw deep within the stock. Their spring and plunger also blew out the bottom expectantly when disassembling. The users had to cut their stock open to try to recover their hardware.
  13. Locktite is a bad idea on the Urbino attachment screw. If you ever need to remove the stock, the screw will seize to the 'stock retaining screw.' When you start unscrewing it, the stock retaining screw will back out of the recoil tube and push through the snap ring. So you end up with the Urbino off, and your stock retaining screw seized to the attachment screw inside the stock. Your spring and plunger blown out the bottom of the tube. The only way to resolve it is to cut the stock open. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/27567-Help-please!-Can-t-remove-Urbino-stock?highlight=Urbino
  14. I really want to like the BLAM4, but it has some serious issues that need to be addressed to make it a solid product. The method that the rail is attached to the bracket is pure fail. The single screw just doesn't keep the rail from moving. The two notches on the bottom don't index with the holes in the bracket right. They allow for a lot of movement. I've been trying to attach a Surefire Scout light to the BLAM4 with a ThornTail offset mount. I've been considering getting some 5 minute epoxy and gluing the rail section to the bracket in an attempt to hold it in place. Overall, I'm not happy with the strength of the unit. One good whack, and the mounted item will be flopping around. Sadly, I'll probably end up back with the Surefire M80 rail. It weighs about 6 or 7 ounces more, but it at least functions perfectly.
  15. I've found no issues with this combination.
  16. Any chance that Surecycle makes an upgraded aftermarket unit for your model? http://www.surecycle.com I'd email them and see if they have something that will work.
  17. Sucks to hear about the Urbino. You outlined many of the issues I had with it. I would not put thread locker on the fastener though. You will end up unscrewing the entire plug when it comes time to remove the stock for whatever reason. There are a few threads from last year where guys had to cut the Urbino stock open in order to recover the receiver extension's plug due to the use of blue locktite. A couple guys have chopped down the factory pistol grip stock, you might want to look into that for going with a shorter LOP. Or perhaps try a Field Stock?
  18. My guess is that they go in easy, but they're very difficult to get out without damaging it.
  19. Looks great! Interesting about the limbsaver. It may be allowing the weapon to move to the rear more than a harder pad and stealing some of its inertia. Inspect the recoil tube and make sure the inside is polished smooth. The unit I took off of my 11703 was rather rough on the inside. When I swapped the receiver extension out for a newer production one, I noticed it was much smoother on the inside. Swapping out the extension would likely bump up its value, since it would then have the functional telescopic stock.
  20. The part you're describing is called the Flexible Ring. If you are planning to transfer it from one recoil tube to another, I would recommend just buying another flexible ring from Brownells. The ring is rather easy to install, but digging one out is a real PITA. You'd need a strong tipped pick in order to dig under one of the edges of the ring. If you're going to try to dig it out, put the receiver extension in a vice. Then get two picks. One pick to hold the flexible ring in place while you try to dig under the other end of the gap with the other. If you can get one of the pick ends under the ring, you might be able dislodge it. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=23696/sku=301000544/Product/Flexible-Ring It is out of stock at the moment, but I've found that most Benelli parts that are out of stock ship within two weeks from Brownells.
  21. Pretty similar. I'd pay more for a M4 that had this conversion done honestly. The M1014 limited edition of the M4 was released with the collapsible stock, but neutered so that it would not function to abide by importation laws. Benelli stopped selling the collapsible stocks to the general public and released their 11707 series and later with the 3 position receiver extension shown in the two auctions.
  22. FWIW, the last action is for a stripped unit. The other is complete and less money. The stock retaining screw can be a real PITA to get out. No one sells a tool to engage the notch. You need a Mesa Urbino stock with locktite to get it out.
  23. Yep. What you need is a new receiver extension. The 11701 or M1014 which you have has the bastardized receiver extension that will not permit the collapsible stock to collapse. I've done the job to replace the receiver extension. It's a pain, but it is doable.
  24. The silver is lead. You need to get a tornado brush.
  25. Right about the BlueForceGear padded 2 point. The front sling mount needs more work though. There aren't enough rails to properly attach the sling mount to the BLAM4 along with the GearSector Scout Light offset mount. I need to source a longer MOE rail and rig it up to the BLAM4.
