  1. Ever disassembled and cleaned the recoil spring tube on that shotgun? If its full of fowling it can cause the action to cycle slowly which can cause the kind of failures you're describing. You'll want a light lubricant inside there so it doesn't cause the action to cycle slowly.
  2. At least the pirate added some value to the thread!
  3. It's your funeral after all the schooling we got here today! If you don't buy whatever his name is you're running tier two at best. Right down to the baby crap brown painted stock with Sgt. Frog green spots.
  4. ??? Who is talking about birdshot? You should know your buckshot load pattern at various ranges. None of the other options presented here can even see the iron sights. They’re obstructed by the optic housing. Maybe some have a wait-a-minute quick detach lever on their base.
  5. I’d contact Benelli to see if they’d look at it if you can’t get the malfunction to reoccur by cycling the firearm. A 12 gauge snap cap would be the best thing to have on hand to test with. I’m not sure why it would jam the bolt unless something had broken off and bound up the action.
  6. When I first install the spring retainer, I leave it poking out the end of the magazine tube about 1/3 its height. When you tighten the magazine tube cap on the first time, it will push the retainer in to the proper depth. If the magazine spring is weak, it will fail to feed the last round in the tube onto the elevator. So load one in the chamber and one in the magazine tube. Fire and see if it loads correctly. Weaker loads are more likely to fail, so you can test this with some low dram valuepack ammunition.
  7. I like that carbon fiber look! Looks like one of the older Sports minus the nickel plating.
  8. I just assumed Amsdorf 'it's smokin' like a chimney,' got a new account finally.
  9. The EOTech's were more popular 15 years ago on the Benelli. So I don't see many of them anymore. There are better, smaller options available now. The most popular ones are the Triicon RMR and Aimpoint T1. The Trijicon SRO's are starting to pick up. Sometimes we see an Aimpoint M4 or M5 come thru. One I have had a verified 10,000 rounds of buckshot and slugs thru it. Zero issues with it. We would have a lot more complaints here on this forum and others if it was an issue. Picking a couple complaints out of the internet is a fallacy since we do not know if it was installed correctly. Or if it was one of the Mesa Tactical mounts with the incorrect screws. The main complaint would be with the heavy shell carriers like Mesa Tactical which weigh significantly more than an EOTech. I don't recommend these heavier optics or shell carriers; but the platform will certainly handle them when installed correctly.
  10. Even if the sight was dead, you could use the window as a large ghost ring that would be good enough for shotgunning distances.
  11. If you don't like the obstructions from the rear sight, why not remove the entire rear sight assembly? You'll cut about 3 ounces of weight. You could also remove the front sight hood to unclutter the sight picture.
  12. You wouldn't change your position no matter what amount of evidence was given, so why bother? Telling you about the M4s' with 10,000 rounds of high base through them with EOTech 552's would be a waste of time. Or the 100+ Benelli M4's that have come thru my shop for work in various configurations. So why argue? You can do as you like.
  13. Thanks for the pictures. I wanted to get an idea of how much you ended up using.
  14. Lets see if I can dispel some myths here. The top rail is plenty strong to mount whatever optic you want. I've used EOTech 552's in the past on the M4 without any mounting issues. The problem is improper installation of the top rail to the receiver and the lack of thread locking compound to keep the screws tight. The receiver is quite thin where the top rail screws are mounted. Factory specification states that 12-14 inch pounds of torque be applied to the screws. This is very light. Two fingers on the screw driver will deliver that amount of torque easily. What you want to do is to prep both the screws and the receiver holes with an acetone based cleaner. If the screws have thread locker on them from past installations, you will want to clean them off mechanically. I prefer a wire wheel brush on a Dremel to remove this material. Then you want to use blue Loctite #243 which is formulated for bonding dissimilar metals together. In this case, steel screws and an aluminum receiver. You don't want to go past the torque specs given because the screws will protrude into the receiver and prevent the barrel from being inserted. Or, if you had the barrel installed during this, the screws will be making contact with the barrel extension and you won't be able to remove the barrel. Over torquing the screws can also damage the aluminum receiver and strip the threads. It was mentioned that Mesa Tactical had issues in the past. The reason for this was originally Mesa Tactical supplied the incorrect screws for the thread pitch. This has been corrected for a long time. Figure a Mesa Tactical shell carrier weighs around 6 ounces empty. I think some of them hold eight shells. At 2 ounces a piece, you're bolting on around 22 ounces.
  15. I agree. The Surefire is terrible. Care to post some photos of the RTV modification?
  16. Let me see if I can find anything out. shootingsight - I’m not really sure what I want out of a charging handle if I’m being honest. Since everyone wants the carriercomp design, I’d copy that one in materials and style.
  17. Did you do the front and rear of the handguard? The rails are marked Santa Ana CA for the construction.
  18. The Strike Industries forend is quite comfortable. However the attachment system sucks with its set screws. Another user said he used black RTV around the handguard retainer and did away with the set screws.
  19. Light Mount: https://www.impactweaponscomponents.com/product/multi-light-benelli-m4-mount-scout/ Rear Sling Mount https://www.impactweaponscomponents.com/product/qd-rotation-limited-buttstock-sling-mount-n-slot/ I'd recommend a Surefire M600DF for the weapon light. With these two parts, you'll have QD sockets front and rear on the Benelli. Take a look at the BlueForceGear padded sewn in QD socket slings. https://www.blueforcegear.com/custom-padded-vickers-sling
  20. Impact Weapon Components has a solid option you should look in to.
  21. I like everything except that light mount!
  22. Get a Powerball ticket! I’d take it out and test it some more to see if it vanishes on you again before doing anything more drastic. You could have had it installed where it wasn’t retaining it well. It’s not the best design to be honest. It’s one of those Italian engineer things like how the rear sling mount is installed in the Standard stocks.
  23. Birddog - Since there is three indents on the bottom of the charging handle that index with the detent in the bolt carrier, one of these notches may be damaged, so the other two still retain the bolt knob for now. You might be able to visually see which one is boogered up and avoid using that notch. Or maybe reach out to FFT and see if they'll warranty it.
  24. CTL seems really promising. They're the ones who were actually doing Robar's plating. So if you like it, you'll like their product. I'm setting up under my FFL to be a processor/dealer for them. I don't think they intend to accept firearms from the general public, but their dealers will be able to act as a middleman. It doesn't seem like they'll have any gunsmithing services for complex disassembly. If this all shakes out, I'll gladly accept shipments as I've done for years and be that middle man who can tear it down and reassemble it properly.
